A couple things I forgot to mention: GOOD - I’m ALWAYS pre-planned 1-3 loads out. BAD/ANNOYING - you have to enter in a 3-5 digit code before you can move the truck. Mine’s 5 digits and must be entered EVERY time I release the truck brakes 😡 You will also get FIRED IMMEDIATELY for doing a U-turn on a public road unless it’s under the direction of the police and recorded by the dash cam for proof

Rocky D I have a business degree and do have a mind for numbers/business. It’s crossed my mind but, to be honest, I’m not married enough to this industry to invest into it like that. I’ve also heard way too many horror stories about leasing. Now a lot of those may have been those drivers sucked at accounting for their expenses and such but it still scares me a bit.

@@RushinTruckin it's about always knowing your numbers at all times. Watch Big Rig CEO channel. Once get my CDL and get my year in as a company driver I'm going to lease on with Schneider. They have their own load board. So you're not competing with other owner operators out on the spot market. Check it out Scott. You have what it takes.

Land of the Free I have conditional offers from them for the jet set tanker and regular OTR positions. Their benefits are really expensive ($170ish/week just medical for a family) compared to others. For the jet set tanker, I was told 46 cpm about 1500 miles/week $25 load $35 unload. Comes out to a $50k-$75k range supposedly. 3 weeks on 1 week off (well...5 days at home book ended by travel days to get where you’re needed) Driver keeps the airline miles. Travel to and from airport and 2 checked bags are reimbursed or paid for. It’s slip seat which sucks but is understandable

Rushin' Truckin'... Thanks buddy for sharing this detailed information. I live in Citrus County Florida, and this was extremely helpful in the way you broke it down. I have done a exhausting amount of research in the Trucking field for 5 years straight now. Hard core over the past 6 months. I have made up my mind to go with Knight to start out with as it has been the 2nd best choice that I have come across as a whole, and that will be within the next few months. Just trying to get all my affairs in order, and be financially ready for at least a solid month before I head to Phoenix for CDL Training. I really wanted to start with Prime, but they just aren't hiring out of Florida. (at least not for now or anytime soon apparently.) I know they all say the 1st year is the toughest, and we all have to start somewhere. No shame in my game starting with Knight. Haven't heard anything too negative except for them STILL not having APU's. Yes, they have been talking about this whole "researching" into the APU's for a long long time now like another commenter said. That just might be a game changer for me to be honest, but I'm being hopeful as I have a good outlook on Knight and I want to do the best I can for them, and for myself. After that first year, if it's not what I thought, at least there will be tons of doors that open up right?? Thanks again and look forward to more Vlogs from you.

Ted Birkeland you’re welcome. If you’re not even in the game yet, consider Millis Transfer. They offer schooling for $500 then want you to drive for them for 1 year (you sign a contract to do so), but you’ll make great money that first year, get top notch training, and have the best equipment on the road. The only thing is, going with them and being out of Florida, you will have to sacrifice home time. I don’t know enough about Knights training program so I can’t comment on that without guessing. If you didn’t know, Millis is who I was with my first year

I only drove for a little over 4 months, worked for 2 different companies. It did not take long through experience and talking to other drivers to realize that the dispatcher got a bonus for every driver that reached 10,000 miles a month. I would run hard for 2 and half or 3 weeks. Then found myself sitting in a truck stop for days on end. I was being told there was no loads. It was amazing how once that 4 week period was over, loads were found and I was driving hard again for 2 and half to 3 weeks. For me it was the worst job I ever had.

You should get that new truck soon, I’m surprised they haven’t sold the one you’re in already. But with the LTs you can’t override the idle unless you’re in a freightliner with the opti idle. They’re supposedly changing the idle parameters to 33-60 but we’ll see how that goes. But I’d recommend sitting down with a tax pro and adjust your witholdings to where you get the least taken out but still get income tax back. I still got taxes back and avg about 900-1100 a week. Not the best not the worst for sure...With your experience I think you can do better though maybe try Marten or Rohel? Rohel has got a pretty solid program I'm looking into them myself just got back into trucking last year...too many other trucking companies that are way more competitive with pay to take a pay cut or deal with a truck that has a lack of equipment...just some suggestions, but if Knight works for you and you're ok then keep on truckin man best of luck!

Marc P Marten denied me, no explanation. I’ve looked into Roehl when I first got into the industry. I was between them and Millis. Ultimately went with Millis. Roehl doesn’t pay the greatest either so between them and Knight, I chose Knight because he have a terminal 40 miles from my house. I always have my eyes and ears open for opportunities but central Florida and south is horrible for great options for truckers. More options open up once I hit my 2 yrs experience mark the end of this year.

And after he hits his first 30k a 1c raise which will bring him up to 46c a mile. Honestly as of right now swift is a better paying company. With 5 years experience at swift you would get 50c a mile and a 200 dollar bonus a week if you do a easy 2200 miles. So with the bonus you would earn about 1300 a week easy. Wish I had stayed at Swift with that bonus I would be earning 1500 a week.

Nice equipment (for the most part), nice terminals (for the most part), preplanned with 1 or 2 loads 95% of the time. You’ll be known for your truck number and that’s about it. Low pay for experienced drivers. Benefits are just ok. The idling program sucks (auto shut off on trucks between 36-70 degrees) unless you’re lucky enough to get a truck who’s auto shut off can be overridden. Prepare to be on hold for a long time when you need to call in. I had two different dispatches in my 5 months and had both of their cell phone #’s but they still rarely answer cuz they’re so busy. 30ish drivers per dispatcher (Driver Manager is what they call them). I left cuz of the low pay (36 cpm take home...I’m making 60 cpm take home now)

They gave me a truck and I did a pretrip and the brakes was bad, the tires were bald among other things. I went to my DM from the dry side, told him I want to come back and get my old truck back, what refer side is trying to give me is pathetic. So he went ok lol. So I stayed where I was lol. This was in Olive Branch MS. And this was in 2014, I been out of driving or working in that matter for a few years, I just stayed home and in the process lost my CDL because I didn't get a normal dot physical, and lost my license. Then I got a divorce, so I'm trying to talk with Knight to give me schooling to get my CDL back. Because when I drove for them they were good to me. A lot of companies is turning me down because I have no employment for the last few years. leagueofotters the one driver I spoke to said he we told he’d be home every weekend. He claimed that wasn’t the case. They primarily haul building material like lumber and dry wall so they do a lot of tarping. They have a sister company/division called Sun...something. That side claims that 80-90% of their loads are drop, hook, and pre-tarped and also home every weekend 48 cpm. I considered them but the transition would be tough cuz they only pay $500/week during the 3 week training (1 week orientation and securement then 2 weeks on the road with a trainer)

@@RushinTruckin fair point. Watching your income is already highly advise. If you are on per diem I'd say just make sure you watch it closer.

It was meant to seem casual and like you’re there with me just having a conversation. Don’t think I did it in any other video cuz eating can def be annoying to some. Chopsticks on canned tuna…no thanks
