Hello thank you for videos. New Juno DS guy here. Very fun great sounds and looks easy to store and play back. I can't wait to learn how to.
@AnAmericanGuitarist5 жыл бұрын
Great job explaining all of this as it has been built. It is very helpful, but as a musician and a consumer "very easy" doesn't involve 10 to 27 steps to combining 2 sounds, savving and assigning it to a patch button. I have thought for a long time that Roland and other manufacturers could greatly simplify all of this. Very easy is On/ OFF, Volume knob, a save button, a dial that says "save to" and an option list like "Browse" in Windows. --- 1, 2, 3 and done. --- Find, change, add A, D and E & remove L, K and Y via a check box next to them on a list, save to and press save. That would be a lot better. This is more like car stereos where they refuse to just put a clock set button. You know? Add a button! I'll pay the extra $40! I used to own a Roland VS2000. It had a lot of great features but was again overly complicated. It's like DOS! Keep it simple. I have a computer based studio now. I now have a Juno-DS right here and it's the same long road to my destinations. Once the presets are finally completed, then yeah ... that's easy to use. I just think that being this close to the 2020 timeline, technology could be much more CUT TO THE CHASE.
@officialWWM4 жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree with you. This thing is a nightmare to use!
@kashanakins98054 жыл бұрын
@@officialWWM I agree, very poor user interface setup. We are in an era of smart home devices that are super simple to use, yet keyboard technology is stuck in 20 year old tech. Why? It's like they invest in R&D for one board and just ride that antiquated tech for over a decade.
@officialWWM4 жыл бұрын
Kashan Akins I think that's exactly what they do! Let's face it, the Juno DS is a pretty old design now and well over due for an update. I bought mine last Christmas and was very hesitant at the time due to the user interface. I thought "oh well, I'm sure I'll figure it out". 7 months on, I'm still only using the most basic functions cause the more in depth stuff just does my head in! I'm either going to sell it or just put it in my studio for recording, cause it does have some decent sounds in it. I'm going to buy a Korg SV2 for live playing. I think it's a much more organic playing experience.
@alicaramba76804 жыл бұрын
@@officialWWM JUNO DS has PC/Mac editor and it should make sound editing much easier at deeper levels. Obviously, Korg SV2 would be much better keyboard for live performance and with better sounds (no surprise, it is twice more expensive than DS-88). But keep in mind, SV2 is DP/EP/Organ keyboard awith no synth/pad/oriental/guitar sounds, no drums, no 16 parts. In short, it is in different category and you shouldn't to treat it as replacement for DS.
@officialWWM4 жыл бұрын
Ali Caramba there is no PC editor for Juno, at least, I've never seen one! I play rock, blues etc, so have very little need for crazy synth sounds or fake guitar sounds. I certainly don't need oriental sounds. Sure, the SV2 is more expensive but I think it's totally worth it.

For future reference, what I really want is the ability to tinker with EVERYTHING, rhythm and arpeggios included, and have a simple sequence to save the entire setup with no “remember to do *this* (and that...) first “ prerequisite tedium to trip up the process. The DS sounds so much better than my old Casio, but registration memory is one detail Casio got right. P.S. it’s a helpful video, and I definitely used it to learn to save favorite patches. The performance feature needs more love, though.
@Roboprogs5 жыл бұрын
So I thought about this a minute. The DS has a USB flash drive. Skip the limited internal memory, and save settings in named files on the external drive. Save everything in effect. Knobs, pads, samples, patch edits, layers, splits, loop sequences, arpeggio settings, tempo, rhythm pattern and drum kit selection. Test criteria: if the user has to edit ANYTHING after loading such a file to get back to what was playing yesterday, the feature isn’t done yet.

Seems like a pretty good video but holy 💩 that is WAY too many windows and cursor manipulations and menus and etc etc etc. Why in the WORLD did Roland make this so frigging complicated?!?! This is the least intuitive design I have ever seen. I think all these companies do this so when you get used to their product after HOURS AND HOURS of messing with it you never wanna leave their platform. RIDICULOUS!
@lancomedic4 жыл бұрын
I came here because I am finding it difficult to figure out what everything on this keyboard does. There are cursor buttons and a jog dial but no logic as to which one to use for a particular task. You are calling the sounds "patches" harking back to a previous generation of synths. You should call them "sounds". A "performance" seems to be a group of sounds and settings that you want to recall later. If this was an APP these would be called "settings". The screen is a busy mess of small type that requires too many buttons to navigate.This video did nothing to make my understanding of it easier. You need some graphics to show the logic and structure of how all this actually fits together.
@Synsizer4 жыл бұрын
Lol, wow, what a wreck! It doesn't matter what something used to be called ie car, auto, sadan etc. Learn to speak the vernacular of the era you are in and of the equipment you are using, nothing before that matters, therefore, no confusion. It also sounds like you are trying to get way ahead of yourself and your skills and understanding. I found this vid nearly child like and extremely understandable and so very well done. Why? Years of experience. If you are finding something way to hard, it may not be the ppl trying to explain it to you, but rather you trying to do more than you are ready for at this point in your synthesizing experience. I see plenty of things I don't fully understand, so I dig deeper and research until I DO understand. This stuff is WORK to reach a certain level. Wanting it quick and easy will only slow you down. Too much on the screen? Too much INFORMATION? Seriously? I always want more. But then, I know what the information is or I research and learn it. I am NOT trying to be critical as much as point out this is more a matter of perception. Could the layout of the DS be better or easier? Sure, EVERY board could. That's why we voice our opinions to the companies so maybe the next board might be closer to that silver bullet board...and no, there isn't one. I find this board to be fairly easy to navigate while still requiring a bit of learning. Take your time and research ONE thing at a time until you understand it, then move on to the next, looking only for the things you need the most. Good luck!
