Russel Brand is brilliant, he is basically saying there is a universe full of infinite wonder, and we humans are only interested in who will rule us. Some people cant see past the theatrics, but he is one of the most interesting and loving people alive.

What point is there to relish in the universe with all its wonder if everything goes to shit on earth? who pays the billions of dollars each year in order for scientists to point out to us how infinite the universe is ? Dont be so ignorant ...
@xXCrytikaliezXx9 жыл бұрын
Well he IS Jesus
@edwardv12559 жыл бұрын
Eddie vwd The point is that if enough people would relish the universe with all its wonder, maybe they would stop doing the shit they're doing on/to earth. The billions of dollars spent on science each year is ridiculously little, compared to the trillions spent on things like military and other destructive things. The key to solving the shit on earth, is looking at the wonders of the universe (which earth happens to be a part of). The problem is that most people forget that despite the feats of the collective scientific community, most/all human beings are still pretty fucking stupid as individuals. Most people seem to prefer sticking their head in the sand, rather than standing on the shoulders of giants.

+Kaylee Cromling People dislike him (for the most part) either because: a) he is rich, incredibly spontaneous, confident and just doesn't care about unimportant stuff so he can get almost any woman to sleep with him, which means they dislike him because they're envious of his qualities or b) he is both influential, has resources and is LOUD about the many many problems of western society which people constantly try to ignore and oppress so they can line a "happy life", they don't want to think that they live in a society so twisted, full of lies and deceiving; basically people want him to shut up so they can continue living a lie without constant reminders about it. Or both.

@ITSROBHERE10 жыл бұрын
no, it didn't fly over everyone head it's been said, a lot, by many many people in many ways. I think most people inside realize this but we just have heard it so many times or understand it so it doesn't really phase people anymore. Besides it's almost a kind of so what situation at this point, what about all that shit that's billions of lightyears away from us. I did enjoy how he said it though, and the almost immediate shift to hitting on audience members.

Russel is very literal, he did not mean that. He's brilliant as a comedy, terrible intellectual. Just read his book, watch his debates or his interviews. His ill informed, biased, intellectually dishonest, and most importantly, not very logic oriented. All this makes him terrible at finding out how things work, either it's a corporation, war, capitalism or even simply someone's political motivations. I'm just 23, but I'd kick russel brand's intellectual ass on any subject of his choice. He's got an amazing wordplay confidence charisma and a mastering of his bodylanguage for his own purposes, but he's dumb.

Brilliant. People care about trivial matters that don't even change anything and he understands that there is so much more to existence than which identical candidate gets elected. People see it as him being crazy and arrogant and a bafoon, but the entire time he's showing us that these types of things are just not what is important in the universe.
@theextinctsurgeon31010 жыл бұрын
Actually eccentricity is a sign of intellect
@TheGroucho6610 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I suppose going through life in some sort of apathetic, existential stupor is the best way to function - since we are but a shadow of a grain of sand in the galaxy. Don't be silly, there's caring too much about trivial matters e.g. celebrities, tweets, etc and then there is not caring about anything because - as Mr Brand believes - there is apparently a supernatural, immaterial world where we will transcend from this ephemeral, material one which - according to him - is meaningless and trivial. He may very well be a witty, erudite comedian who has some chutzpah and a general wish to make the world happier, but forgive me that I don't pay the slightest bit of attention to his ramblings concerning epistemology, the purpose of life or science.
@Joreus10 жыл бұрын
TheGroucho66 I don't think Brand endorses that we should not care about anything. He also says very very often he wants to make sure that his views and support does not come across as apathetic; that he just doesn't see current political figures of systems working. He says he just wants everyone to be happy. That the things people THINK they care about as endless consumers is the wrong way to look at our responsibility of being conscious. And by his personal account yoga and meditation make him happy. He doesn't say things like Christianity and going to heaven is important. He just means connecting on some form or another of spirituality and togetherness is important. His main goal anyway is reform, which makes sense. He admits he doesn't have all the specific answers on how a new global utopian system would work, but is aware that this current one does not function for the people.
@TheGroucho6610 жыл бұрын
Joreus As mentioned before, his passion, good nature and desire for people to be happy is great, however in many interviews he has expressed the view that "it doesn't matter!" or "This is all material!" and has insisted that what really matters - and the only thing that does - is to tap into the "infinite consciousness" and energy that encapsulates us all - or some other new age/pseudo-scientific - quantum flap doodle. It is a worrying trend when those who shrug and say "We are a grain of sand in the infinite beach of the universe, everything we do doesn't matter. We are barely a blip on the galaxy's radar" are seen as the wise ones. Jihadists think like this - which is why their actions done now are seen as nothing in comparison to their afterlife they think they are going to. I have no issue with people meditating or trying to discover things about the world that we do not understand fully e.g. why music makes us feel a certain way, or poetry, or art or literature or sex, etc but Brand loads onto this "evidence" that there is an omnipotent, thinking entity in the unknown; something there has been no evidence for. The sleep of reason brings forth monsters.
@Joreus10 жыл бұрын
TheGroucho66 I do agree that it is dangerous to think like that in a literal way. Yes it is true that currently what we do on this planet is almost insignificant until we become a type 1 civilization, but for people to actually let that type of thinking draw you down a dark path of inconsiderate notions is despicable. So in the sense of the guy who has completely stopped caring about his effect on other people, I completely agree. But I also think it is unfair to compare Brand to an outright evil and delusional form of skewed and misrepresented religion (Jihadists). I think to be intelligent would mean you're aware of what you are the universe, but to also be aware of the smaller world around you and the effect you have on others. To understand you have an obligation to do what you can for this world by even being conscious to begin with. I get a little nervous when people start talking about a greater being. I try to interpret what Brand says as not literal, but just a feeling within yourself to connect on some form with other people.
