When a director's career needs a "hit" it becomes quite easy to tell themselves that a sequel to a perfect film may be convincing sold. For the rest of us, I think the key is to either approach the sequel as a stand-alone story/dream, or, if the baggage is too precious, simply avoid it upon its release. I could easily criticize the hell outta this project, but I'd rather give it a chance, because--entertaining or disappointing--it's likely designed to stand on its own. And I'm confident it will do that, if nothing else. (My ONLY concern is the possible lack of involvement from Hans Zimmer & Lisa Girard, whose music captured the spirit of ancient Rome so beautifully.)

Denzel Washington is great but is not the one of 20 years ago (Training Day, American Gangster, The Hurricaine, ...) and of course Dicaprio, but he is still in his 40s. Let' s see if he works exactly the same whe he gets sixty something.

I know he gets annoyed being asked about gladiator 2, but MAN just appreciate the fact that you starred in an iconic movie and instead feel sorry for the cast of part 2 because unless they pull off a terminator 2 type sequel that is so unbelievably good, most fans will hate this movie. I remember when Jonathan Ross was essential viewing on Friday night on the BBC. The first Bowie special was particularly memorable. The ITV incarnation was rubbish from the off and it's slowly got worse and worse. Now he's doing remote interviews. Time to call it a day.

All they gotta do at the end of gladiator one, when he’s being wheeled off, and he just died, make it so that he jumps up like he just had a heart attack and awoke from it get medical staff to tend his wounds and he lives then do a 20 years later thing

Maximus is dead. So the only way you could create a great sequel - Lucius becomes king and honors Maximus by ending the games maybe? Lots of possibilities with Lucius as the new hero - but bringing back Maximus or his Son (which we know are dead) that would not work.

Shouldn’t frame it as a Gladiator sequel, I think that’s a mistake. Should be more of another story set in the roman empire, as the setting does lend itself to potentially create thousands of really great stories.
