While slavery is certainly not an ideal situation, there is nothing inherently sinful about it, this is why you will find scriptures for its regulation, but not for its abolition. The Southern States recognized the sinfulness of the Atlantic Slave Trade, and this is why it was made illegal in the Confederate Constitution (although there were Southern States that had done so prior to secession); I might add also that this abolition was accomplished first in the South, only later followed by the North.

Roman Empire… For rulers judge everything to be legitimate for themselves and do not consider themselves bound by the law of God, nor do they consider His worship to pertain to themselves. Herein they are terribly mistaken...Even though the power of earthly princes be great in this world, still they must realize that they are ministers and servants of God and the people...since kings and princes are bound by covenant to the people, to administer the law in truest equity, sincerity, and integrity; if they break faith and usurp tyrannical power by which they allow themselves everything they want: is it not possible for the people to consider together taking measures in order to remedy the evil?' ' (Darius) in lifting up his horns against God, had himself abrogated his power.'" So again, his frustration is about men and women using Christ’s name to justify their unjust behavior. I’m afraid I have to disagree with Dr. Wilson on this one.

So, you'll only accept an overt call for Christians to vote Democrat as evidence of Moore's chicanery? Years of using his position to make Democrat talking points and his own history as a Democrat won't convince you? Darn The reality of the U.S. political system is that it is structurally and inherently a two-party one. The next government is determined on election day, unlike a parliamentary system where the government is formed with a lot of post-election horse trading. Next election we're going to have either a Democrat or a Republican, like it or not. There are consequences to that. Trump may have been a sketchy unknown in 2016 but by 2020 had shown himself to be the most prolife and most pro- religious liberty president since Reagan. That mattered because it was either going to be him or an anti-Christian pro-abort Democrat in 2021. Moore's constant criticism of Christian traditionalists and Republicans on leftist media does nothing to convince their heathen viewers. They're not Moore's target audience. He's making distinctions between Christianity and a party pushing manifest evil fuzzy and maybe not so important by repackaging their talking points in Christianize for Christians ... much like Satan repackaging God's command for Eve in the Garden. Dwight Eisenhower, Douglas McArthur and George Patton each had a mistress during the war. In 1939 it would have been appropriate to drum them out of the service for such moral failings. In 1944, not so much. It would have been giving aid to the enemy under the cover of moralism. Moore took the 1944 path and he shares responsibility for the consequences.

@@micahlantz905 in all seriousness, can you point out what hypocritical statement Moore made in this interview? maybe you feel you know Moore’s heart or something, but what he’s saying here-that the sloppy and dangerous and destructive attack on the US Capitol-should not be justified in the name of Christian faith. that is the majority opinion, unless I’m mistaken. so if Wilson is just attacking a dude he doesn’t like based on a personal grievance, there’s a whole fancy Latin phrase for that sort of fallacy. would appreciate any clarification if i’m missing something.

Doug, are there any examples of Jesus using the sword or any other acts of violence as a consistent means to accomplish his work while on earth? He was only in ministry for 3 1/2 years. Consequently, it should be very clear what his clear method was.

I'm a tad slow.....are we defending what happened on January 6th as "in accordance with scripture"?
@3d1k32 жыл бұрын
@Kenny Bugh ......I was afraid of that. I'm new to this channel. So this may have been covered. But if we can extend this exegetical logic to January 6th then the same MUST be applied to the protests and probably even the riots (yes the two are different for anyone that may read this later). If this channel doesn't support that then this take is very suspect. We gotta keep that same energy.... especially on a video demanding for someone to keep that same energy. I'm truly hoping this blatant double standard and hypocrital stance is unfounded and only exists in my hypothetical assessment. If it doesn't, this is another example of why the "woke" kids get so caught up in fighting racism rather than spreading the Gospel. Double standards like this have that if it looks like a duck sounds like a duck....
@3d1k32 жыл бұрын
@Kenny Bugh ummm basically, if he is saying that January 6th is scripturally condoned then that extends to every protest and every riot in the wake of George Floyd. Typically, conservatives (I am not a liberal) don't extend such grace to protestors/rioters. So if grace and even support is given to January 6th and not George Floyd protests/riots that reasonably appears racist. Not necessarily racist but, it can see why it would look that way.

I think I must be missing what Doug is saying here. Let me preface by saying that I really don't have much respect left for Russell Moore for a number of reasons, and I do have a lot of respect for Doug Wilson and listen to his content a lot, so this is not me defending Moore or attacking Wilson, but just trying to understand better what is being said here. I also don't buy into the threat of Christian nationalism being prevalent at all. It seems to me that what Moore is saying is that those who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 and stamped God's name on their actions were making an idol of their idea of America and using God's name as a means to maintain that idol. Wilson's response seems to be that being angry about that must mean that Moore is idolizing what they attacked, the Capitol. I think that is a leap. If someone were to burn down a public school and say they did it in the name of God, if another person were to be angry about that, does it mean they idolize the public school system? Or that they simply recognize that it was an unrighteous act with God's name taken captive? Somebody please help clarify this, because I would much rather be on Doug Wilson's side of any argument than Russell Moore's haha.
@dalethomas53922 жыл бұрын
In a nutshell, Wilson is merely highlighting the double-standard thinking that Moore, et. al. use on a consistent basis. They will Trojan horse you with a "Jesus/Christianity isn't political" mantra for the purpose of supporting a particular political vision.
@johnfutch82582 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think this was a swing and a miss for Wilson. Your analogy is on point. There's nothing inconsistent about describing Jan 6 as an outburst of nationalist idolatry.
@ELLIOTADRIANCONTE2 жыл бұрын
It comes down to Moore’s motives. If he is just calling out an appropriation of Christianity as he sees it, then you are right. If he is denouncing Jan 6 in order to simply advance the opposing political ideology, then he is no better. Certain of Moore’s words like “insurrection” reveal his intentions.
@daltonadger64892 жыл бұрын
@@ELLIOTADRIANCONTE yeah I’m with you on that completely. I am just not sure the logic of this particular video holds up, which is not something I say often of Doug Wilson. In the broader context it makes sense tho

The logical point is the reason that Russell Moore gives for his anger is the place the Capitol holds in his mind not the fact that the people claimed to do it in Jesus’ name.
