If you're wondering why its REALLY called Bangkok, it was actually a mistake by the foreigners. Bang means district, Koh means island. So theory suggests foreigners thought the whole city was called Bangkok when in fact it was just a district. And I guess we just rolled with it. The real name of Bangkok among Thais is Krung Thaep etc. Etc, because Bangkok/Krung Thaep holds the Guinness book of records for the longest name of a capital city in the world. Yeah, look that up. The more you know!
