Yo Dogg, Westbrook was a terrible leader ......... dude is a high usage ball hog that gotta dominate the ball in order to be effective , which in turn ended up hurting his teamates, more than it helped his teammates... this is the reason why dude hasn't played or won a meaningful playoff series since he was with durant on okc... Westbrook was always a two guard who was masquerading as a point guard, he never learned how to play basketball the right way, hence the reason why his ball iq never developed over the years....... it's more to winning games in basketball than just , the physical aspect of it...... His most successful years was playing with durant and harden as a role player, and once harden left, Westbrook failed with, durant, than failed with Melo and paul george, than failed with Bradley beal, than failed with the new improve mvp Houston rockets james harden, than failed with lebron james and Anthony davis and he is now failing with jokic Lets be serious are you trying to win meaningful games and win a championship or are you just trying to pad your stats for your next big contract One thing I give Westbrook props for, is that he never cheats the game, he always play on 100, hardly ever injured and always play hard even though he necessarily doesn't play smart......... and I as a fan appreciate that more than anything especially seeing how soft and lazy these nba players are now a days.........

Would be a good take had he done it the past 5 years , weren’t that many 3’s being take as today when he was doing it.
@BruvahSulaiman2 күн бұрын
@andrewholland853 No. Go back and look at old videos breaking down Russ's stat padding. He was at the bottom of the league in contesting 3s because he let his match-up shoot so he could get the rebounds when they missed. He contested fewer 3s than DeAndre Jordan at one point. That makes no sense when a PG is supposed to be playing D on the perimeter. He chased triple doubles. It was proven over and over. Go look up when he blocked Jeremy Grant in game 5 vs. Houston. Grant was on his team. He did not run an offensive scheme. He dribbled the life out of the ball to make 1 pass for an assist. He did not move without the ball to get open or to set screens for other players. If it was time for the number 2 option to Iso, he would stand and wait. You could see him throw his hands up if he made a pass, and his teammate passed to someone else instead of shooting because he wanted the assists. This was all captured on film. At the end of games missing shots on purpose to get extra rebounds. As time moves forward, nobody makes videos about his stat padding anymore, and ppl who love him take advantage of this to reshape the narrative and only give you the stats without the context. No point guards averaged TDs for all these years and even now because allowing your PG to actively chase triple doubles is not a winning strategy. If it were, other teams would have started having their bigs box out for their PGs to get uncontested rebounds. Other teams would have told their PG, don't contest 3s, just get the rebounds. Russ logged the highest single season usage rate in NBA history. The closest player to him in shot attempts for his MVP year was 371 shots behind him. That was not because the team needed it. Most players on the team shot better % than him. He took those shots to chase the scoring title. If he gave 200 of those shots to better shooters, they would have likely won more than 4 playoff games with him as their leader in OKC. 3 years and only 4 playoff wins. The next year, after they replaced him with CP3, it took CP3 1 year to get 3 playoff wins with a worse OKC team.

I have him more in the shooting guard vein because during his dynastic run, Draymond Green has been the player running and controlling The Warrior offense. I have Magic, Isiah, and Stockton as the top 3 point guards. Look up a video from 7 years ago. Westbrook blocks his own teamate to get rebound. Game 5 against the Rockets. The whole sequence shows why they lost the series 1-4. Russ shot 18 3s that game and made 27% of them. He could not bring himself to give Jeremy Grant more than 3 opportunities from 3. Then he blocks Grant's put back attempt, then he drives on 2 defenders while Grant is wide open under the basket and misses a layup. It was hilarious watching it live back then and it's hilarious watching it now.

If the only statistic you're looking at is triple doubles, then sure. If you're looking at All-Defensive selections, MVP's, rings, Finals MVP's, All-NBA selections, etc... I'd say Magic, Curry, CP3, Stockton, Payton, Kidd, Robertson, Parker, Westbrook. Although, Parker is getting a lot of ring help from playing with some other greats, so he's gotta be worse than Westbrook.

It's also "harder" to play in this media era (mentality), everything is scrutinized. You do 1 good thing, media gonna find 10 bad things to counter it for clicks. Negativity sells. A good % of nba fans probably sees Westbrook for his "Westbrick", his "Hero-Ball the team out of playoff" & his side backboard three, his miss wide open layups etc. Humans usually only remember the bad things, + him vs Harden with the trip dub war for MVP somehow made it "less impressive". Also because they both weren't winning chips with it so psychologically people deem it as empty stats. Are why Russ gets so many hate, and honestly I truly believe the major reason is WESTBROOK FANS. They go extremely crazy on every posts etc. Every season we get a "oh this is the best westbrook this year, finally a team that utilize him properly", literally EVERY season. Trio OKC -> Duo OKC -> Solo OKC -> Rockets -> Wiz -> Lakers -> Clips -> and now Denver Any NBA page will literally post anything if ANY player shot horribly, WB fans will go "OH WHY YOU GUYS ALWAYS HATING ON HIM" "WHY IS IT ALWAYS WESTBROOK" etc. where the same page could be posting like Tony Snell cardio games, Klay shooting etc. His fans always over glaze him, 12/14/10 on 41.7% and they'll be like he's the second coming of Jesus or something and immediately sh*t on all the previous teams not utilizing him. While not realizing just games before he's putting up 6pts 6pts 5pts Thank you for coming to my TedYapTalk

I don’t agree that people chalk Russ triple doubles as easy, because his elite engine and will are almost always referenced.
