Even if Russ isn't great, he'll only be costing the Steelers $1m which is far less than most back-up QB's cost teams... If he's close to good then he'll be the Starter for a year and Fields can sit and learn for a year and then be Pittsburgh's future Starting QB. Having Wilson and Fields is massive upgrade over Pickett and Rudolph! Although it still wouldn't be a massive surprise if Tomlin ends up having his first ever losing season as a HC

I have no idea what Nick is defending Jones for now. He absolutely had a bad enough stretch in the first 6 quarters of the season. He had one good half. He was absolutely horrendous up until the raiders game when he tore his acl. The guy is injury prone. It isn’t just about how bad he was he’s had two neck injuries and a acl, he’s finished a full season once.. it’s really not that hard to see why when they have him under a 2 year and out contract, that they’d want to he done with him.
