This is a brief explanation for "LIFE": Everything, both visible and invisible, is what most persons call "God". God is One Reality but just as a knife cannot cut itself, God cannot know itself (or at least EXPERIENCE Himself) and so has manifested this phenomenal universe within Himself. Therefore, this world of duality is really just a play of consciousness within Consciousness. Apparently, this phenomenal universe was "created" (within Consciousness) with the initial act (the so-called "Big Bang") and from that first deed, every action that has occurred has been a direct or indirect result of it. Therefore, each of us humans were the result of that initial manifestation. That is the real explanation for "karma" - everything was preordained from the initial spark (or to be more precise, preordained in ETERNITY). Whatever state in which we currently find ourselves is the result of two factors alone - our genetic make-up at conception and our present-life conditioning. Because we are temporarily residing within this dualistic universe, we experience both pain and pleasure, BOTH of which can (and usually does) cause us suffering. Suffering and pain are not the same. There are five kinds of suffering: 1. Guilt 2. Blame 3. Pride 4. Worry/Anxiety 5. Regrets about the past and expectations for the future/Attachment to outcomes These types of suffering are the result of not properly understanding what was explained above, that life is a series of happenings and NOT caused by the individual living beings. No living creature, including us humans, has individual free-will. There is only the Universal, Divine Will at play, acting through every body. The body/mind is simply a biological machine. So now that you understand life and why we are suffering here in this (supposedly) material universe, you are now able to be liberated from all forms of suffering, RIGHT? WRONG! It is imperative to find an authentic spiritual master to assist you to come to the above realization, by slowly undoing your past conditioning. Even if you follow a competent teacher, you may still not come to a full understanding of life but if you are sincere, humble and dedicated, you will definitely find more peace in your daily life (all of which was DESTINED to occur, of course). Peace! 🙏 The World Teacher

I read many of the comments and the replies and came to a conclusion. Prof. Brian Cox is a brilliant scientist and a better teacher, he is able to convey the ideas and points from both sides of a coin, but then give you the information he feels is the potential and correct truth. A true scientist, an amazing teacher, and a beautifully centered realist. Russel Brand is an extremely intelligent person, an intellectual and spiritual scholar, to add an ingenious comedian. He is fast talking, quick witted, and has an agenda...that is what gives watching his podcast appeal. This is not two scientists speaking, it is two almost polar opposite people in spirituality, demeanor, education, and scientific compass having a wonderfully civil and entertaining talk which sparks conversation and thought, breaking down barriers and bringing extremes maybe closer together. Why put one or the other down in any way? Oooh big words and agenda, so what, that’s how we learn and become better humans. I loved this talk, you should check out the Joe Rogan, Russell Brand talk...fantastically entertaining and thought provoking. As Russell said, HUMILITY, maybe those who say negative things should gain some.

I used to be like Brian where the discoveries of science opened a new world of possibilities and a paradise away from the commonplace of life day in and day out. However I don't agree with his believe that we cannot learn anything about our nature and reality from ancient, non-scientific practices and discoveries. Like Russel said, these ancient practices can heal peoples lives in so many ways. In fact, meditation is learning how to silence your mental noise and mental movies in order to stop all suffering, stress , disillusionment , depression and many other ailments. Meditation will change your life in making you more receptive to a greater bandwidth of consciousness such as intelligence, creativity, compassion and wisdom. What a wonderful conversation. An example to all of how people with seemingly differing worldviews can come together and with mutual respect hold a discourse that honours both views and finds similarities that can be celebrated. So many comments from viewers concentrate on who is better between the two, who is right, who spoke better, who debated better, who 'owned' the other - why must we do that? As if these men are somehow combatants when in actuality they are two beautiful souls navigating the same waters but having a different experience. Surely the lesson here from both these men is that the only thing we do know for sure is the knowledge that we do not know for sure, and therefore all speculation on creation and the universe is worthy, whether it be religious or scientific, whether it be that matter creates consciousness, or consciousness creates matter. What's matters is we keep our minds open to all the possibilities of nature, the universe and everything... and love each other. :)

Crazy! I honestly am amazed. Russell's beliefs on consciousness is exactly how I believe. Love, kindness & compassion STOP negativity & anger in it's tracks. I practice this in my daily life. Along with creativity these are my (for lack of a better term) religion. Try it! Next time skips you in line, cuts you off in traffic etc act towards this situation with kindness & compassion. It won't feel right but challenge yourself to it. What you will be doing is making actual change. If live peace & compassion are used consistently on an individual basis it will change our collective environment /system/personal relationships etc. I'm 39. When I was 12 I woke up from a dream with the sentence CONSCIOUSNESS IS AN UNDISCOVERED ELEMENT. Over & over again. I truly believe this. Maybe not an element but it is the key. I think we as humans have underestimated our planet and being human. I see similarities within scientific methods and religion. In order to change our environment we have to stop looking for the why & how & start looking at the here and now. I believe if one needs proof of a God look within & if one needs a justification of heaven look around this planet is beautiful and in my opinion heaven.

Try watching Russell's latest videos during 'lockdown'. He is calm, rational and making a lot of sense. I liked him as a comedian and respect the way he has matured lately. I really liked this Interview, thank you Russell Brand x There's a few things I felt Brian Cox was appearing to ignore, being a physicist- 1.) There is no such thing as time, so how is this time on earth temporary? 2.) Energy cant be created or destroyed, so how can the universe end, if energy cant be destroyed? 3.) Physics has proven that even if a hydrogen atom, or any atom for that matter, moves on the other side of the universe, our bodies and everyones body will feel that movement, only very very very slight, as our atoms and all atoms are connected. He did speak about point 3.) Explaining that our world is unusual where the atoms interact with each other. However our science has discovered that all atoms interact, I feel Brian Cox is a nice man however he is limited by his knowledge, and scientific dogma. Thank you Russell, for encouraging a different thought. X

What kind of question is that? "What do you believe tho...." in response to someone being agnostic. Why must someone "believe" in 'something'. I know people love to "believe" in the idea that there must be something ELSE about all this life shit. But, this could just be a meatgrinder and there is absolutely nothing mystical or spiritual about any of it. We can make ourselves believe there is but that isn't the same as actual evidence there IS something more. If you look at what DNA is doing it's very simple. Consume. Reproduce. Die.

@ursulastaempfli7592 жыл бұрын
but then why do we need matter to root consciousness in it? There must be a reason for that. You cannot solve the question by saying you have solved the egg and the hen -what was there first? question. At least for human beings there has to be well functioning matter to express consciousness and to get into exchange with other people's consciousness. I don't think this developed just for the fun of it.

Thanks for this discussion, Russell. Like the one you had with Peterson, this one resonated with me on a deeper level because as Brian states it is important to hold multiple viewpoints at one time not just given the uncertainty of the universe but also the differences in other people. Dialogues like these help me in unifying these kinds of opposing views and in finding the kinks. You asked many questions I have pondered about. Brian's answers helped fill in some gaps. I have contemplated the line between geo and biochemistry. The concept of passing on information through replication as the marker for this line makes complete sense. Of course, then it has me back to wondering about what constitutes as passing on information and replication. If an atom can react with another atom the same way repeatedly to allow chemistry as a whole to exist -is that not also a sign of passing on information? Which I think is where the fine line between your views and Brian's rest. It harkens back to Brian's point about the locality and the point you make about being an observer. I do think our ability to observe is unique in its own way. However, I also think a dog's ability to observe is unique too. I think the universe has as many observers and perspectives that it needs to perpetuate existence. At its fundamental levels, the universe functions both geo and biochemically. I think there is a tendency in people to be too local...people want to give the universe purely human characteristics which give rise to the idea of us being made in the creator's image. I believe the universe does have animal-like traits in that it breaks down and digests existence like any other lifeform. In this way, it functions as a person would. This plays out on a scale so massive that we like organelles have limited scope. It means us no harm in the same way we don't mean any cell in our bodies harm. Because I believe this, it leads to the humility and acceptance that Brian mentions and it also affirms spiritually we are connected to the universe without having to do the math to prove it. It leaves me with the same conclusion as always that knowledge and spirituality merely help to inform us in hopes that we will make rational decisions that when possible have some altruistic results. Because it isn't enough to worry about one's own survivability all the time. There needs to be a state, as you first talk about with the line between geo and bio, that allows for continual passing on information. If the universe can not do this, then it leads to that bleak future Brian discussed...at least for humanity and life on Earth. How we act based on this information passed on to us is what gives us purpose and meaning. Everything we allow into our personal human experience shapes us in some form or another. Also, there were some parts that really made me laugh....' It's certainly bleaker'...' It seems like you get some sort of delight from that'....'Let's see what other planets we can fuck up.' I completely agree on this point. While the need for further expansion may one day be important, I think we need to evolve quite a bit more before migrating. Just like a CEO to want to expand haha. Of course, when you have all the money you need to explore whatever frontier on earth you want and the only limitations you have are global resources you think going beyond the globe is the next step. Those people in North Korea though are probably just hoping they can explore more than their geographic cage in this lifetime. So I really don't want our future generation to deal with planetary conflicts when we still haven't fixed the ones here.

Peace! 🙏 The World Teacher .

Mr. Cox speaks with such confidence in his beliefs about the origin of life. What happens if we question the intellect of the study of Science? Like this: If 'Life' requires molecules containing information to not only, reproduce, but also arrange themselves and cooperate to produce complex eco environments, perfectly replicating diversity of life forms and species over and over, THEN: #1 Where does the stuff to make the molecules come from? (If anyone says "space dust from a star", my next question will be; How did the star and other stars come into existence in the first place?) Did the rock manage to have more intelligence than humans, by creating us and everything else we know of? #2 Where did the ‘information’ come from to motivate intentional thoughtful action, in inanimate rock so it would become living beings and plant life food sources? And why did it stop suddenly after so many series of impossible events?
