In this day and age, in the connected lives we lead, surely everyone needs access to the Internet and a phone of some sort, you know access to emails. You can't do much without that, even to get a job you need the Internet & an email address. To sort out your bills etc etc you need a phone

while there isn't 1 individual reason for it, the more affluent a population becomes in relation to their peers, the more polarised and disproportionate the wealth distribution becomes making it more and more difficult for the majority to stay out of poverty.
@pansepot14904 жыл бұрын
@@rogoth01themasterwizard11 you make it look like an inevitable process. It’s not. Governments decide on taxation and how many resources spend on social policies. There’s many rich countries with social democratic governments that don’t have these massive numbers of extreme poverty. Some “relative” poverty is inevitable but relative should always be just less affluent, it should never arrive to deprivation and starvation.

@@pansepot1490 back when i was in college i studied economics, and at that time the 'pareto optimality index' had shifted from 80/20 to almost 85/15 in the UK and this was 12-13 years ago, at this point in time i wouldn't be surprised to see it even lower and see a 90/10 split or worse, furthermore like i sad in my original comment it's a trend seen in almost every single 'developed' nation with a socio-economic structure as the UK/US etc where the more wealthy the populous as a whole becomes in relation to others around them, the more polarised the wealth disparity becomes making a larger proportion of that population unable to escape poverty leading to what you see here in this video, it also doesn't help that the current government as well as those that have come before have done nothing but cut spending in key areas of the nations programs to help those most in need and seen the the largest growth in those already wealthy get even wealthier to the point where those individuals could and should be taxed more heavily to help support those who cannot through no fault of their own support themselves, sadly the conservative government seems happy to look after thier own members and keep the wealthy happy than see a country wide redistribution of wealth to those that need it and see the 'poor people' start to get back on their feet.
@garrett24394 жыл бұрын
@@pansepot1490 Yeah the current dire situation the UK is in can be traced directly back to the Tory government that came into power in 2010 and never left. They keep getting voted in because appealing to paranoia about immigrants is a surefire way to win a British election. Here in New Zealand our equivalent of Jeremy Corbyn, Jacinda Ardern, she won her election, the reactionaries who were running the country got booted from power and surprise surprise a progressive government is better than a right wing government. The answer to your problems was right in front of you for like 5 years and you kept getting it wrong, three times in a row. It was very sad and annoying to watch.
@fredatlas43964 жыл бұрын
@@rogoth01themasterwizard11 the tories ideology is to privatise everything, that's why they always cut funding for all public services. It's so they can use our money to give tax cuts to big corporate businesses and the wealthy. And they erode workers rights, try to exploit the work force. This is why there is more poverty and the divide between the haves and have not's is growing wider. If they hadn't given these tax cuts for the wealthy since 2010, there would be more than enough money to properly fund public services, like the NHS, road repairs, local councils, police, welfare, state pension, infrastructure, education and schools etc etc

The whole free school meals hits a sore spot for me. My school keeps going on about how they want to help disadvantaged children and they put in a bid to finance a free school (which they lost) but when the thing for free school meals came around, they refused to do anything despite multiple letters from students asking them to do something. Please bear in mind that my school is often seen as snobby and the fees are upwards of £13,000 a year so most people who go there have money to spare. They didn't even do a funds collection, they just refused to do anything. Then a nearby sports club started fund collecting to pay their caterers to come in on the off days and cook huge meals. I only went to my school because it had good support for my learning disabilities so we didn't have much money to spare to give. Then the club asked for volunteers to deliver the food to families and my mum and I immediately volunteered. To this day, that was probably the most worthwhile thing that I have ever done with my time because it really helped me understand the struggle that some children who are less fortunate go through. Sorry for the essay, but I just thought I'd share it as it really showed to me that anyone can make a difference even when the top dogs refuse to help.

Don't worry, politicians the world over look after themselves before anything. The Australian government refused to increase the unemployment benefit by $100.00 a week (14.28 per day), leaving it at the $40.00 a day it was. 2 weeks after denying the unemployed a rise, the government voted in favor of a $400.00 per week pay rise for themselves...that is $57.14 per day. Yes, politicians got a bigger pay rise than the whole of the unemployment payment. And that went on top of the pay they were already getting! And you expect them politicians to forgo their subsidized meals in order to help the people they are SUPPOSED to be SERVING? Hold on to that dream! It's all about the money for politicians.

There’s 10000% something dodgy going on there. An app costs under 50k to make and something like that would be even less. They paid the money to private companies millions for their “consultancy” on how the app should work. Here’s the breakdown: “Private companies are awash with ten billion pounds worth of public funding for a test and trace that barely operates. Taxpayer money is lining the pockets of companies from Deloitte to Serco. The eponymous ‘NHS test and trace’, in fact, has nothing to do with its namesake. This deceit is chilling as the Conservatives once again scapegoat the public sector to hide the failings of private sector interference”

because something that doesn't work, will soon be forgotten, so its the fastest way to fill the corrupts pockets, where as if it did work, we would all be talking about it/using it for years to come (still in the spotlight)

Absolutely hate the Government, I actually had high hopes for the Tories this time but now my hopes for them have dipped into a Deep depression
@ChrisThorne194 жыл бұрын
There was your first mistake, having any kind of hopes for the Tories. I've been reading this opinion for a decade now. I mean Boris lied to everyone about Brexit and has just fucked the country tenfold by doing what he said he would do, it's hilarious you'd have high hopes for him.
@fredatlas43964 жыл бұрын
The tories never change they're doing exactly what they did in the 1980's, just now they've given it a new name to try and justify it, and blame it all on the last Labour government. It's now called austerity, and no it wasn't necessary, even the United Nations said the same thing about the tories and their austerity policy, which has caused untold poverty and destroying our public services, not to mention food banks and millions struggling to survive here in the UK.

Same here. I really thought the government was going to do well this year under Boris Johnson. I wonder what this year would’ve been like if Covid never happened.
@ChrisThorne194 жыл бұрын
@@danielwhyatt3278 I've gotta ask, how did you think that? The Tories have been like this since Margeret Thatcher's day. Boris Johnson not only lied to the entire country to persuade them to leave the EU and everybody that voted got shafted. But now he's pushed for a no deal Brexit like he's stated he will do before the vote. I love how people believe in Boris when all he does is lie to you. He would be the exact same if there was no covid.
@rachelm18164 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisThorne19 ^this. The virus is an added extra, admittedly, but none of this chaos is a surprise to most of us. Top tip for UK voters - bin the Sun and the Mail and vote as if a pandemic is around the corner.
