On the upside: One in five turning down something new (like a vaccine) is stellar results. That means 4 in 5 (or 80%) are informed. When can we generally say that 80% of people around us are behaving semi-rationally? From my own experiences with my own family at a Christmas dinner, I have a ball if 60% of the attendees are behaving remotely coherently. My family parties are in general small, so I know percentages are precious from the start since my mother's uncle and his wife will be jumping out of the blocks with some "climate is imaginary because weather and CO2 are the food for plants" from the get-go. This is before some other distant relative pops up and proclaims his trust in crystal healing - after 2 bypass operations have saved his life twice from cardiac arrest. When a group of reasonable people reach 51% majority they should consider themselves lucky and never leave. I am yet to meet a person in distress that answer "yes" after I ask if they want me to call the emergency homoeopathy service during my 30 years in mountain/river rescue service. They are ALL really eager for me to treat them with science-based first aid and for me to call in helicopter rescue services that provide everything except "just water" and a "suite of pretty rocks" on board. An old-school ER is suddenly sounding great. Rationality seems to kick in hard when a limb has chosen to stick out at an interesting angle or when a friend has stopped breathing. Regarding Covid. It is funny how many chose to say "yes" to those very expensive respiratory machines instead of a bottle of bleach. Ignorance is, in other words, a luxury you can afford when everything is going tip-top.

I understand the pro-vaccine and anti-vaxxer positions. I certainly believe in science. I also understand the marketing and branding that is allowed in the process from research to practice. The truth is that the vaccine controversy is fueled by a failed communication campaign which was designed in 1986 to obscure high-risk groups. (Hint: Autism is a red herring, not the central problem.) Instead of exempting the high-risk children, who had serious reactions but escaped permanent damage, parents were encouraged to play roulette. The result is such that people without any increased risk have also lost trust in our public health system. This was further entrenched when WHO adopted CDC policies on adverse vaccine reactions.
@trish51112 жыл бұрын
Yes, agree 100%. Unfortunately now if you even have any (I believe rational) concerns over vaccination timetables for babies you are shut down. You are prevented from being able to space the vaccinations out more so that a 2 month old doesn't have to have seven vaccines administered at once. In Australia I can get individual vaccines for my dogs instead of 3 or more at once if I'm concerned - but would be prevented from doing so for a baby. I can also get titre tests to make sure my dogs don't get booster vaccines until they need them because overvaccination has been recognised as a concern. Parents of human babies, on the other hand, lose family benefits unless they stick to a rigid timetable of vaccination that may not be in the best interests of their child. Can someone explain why a newborn needs to be vaccinated against Hepatitis B in the first week of life too ? Whenever I ask these questions generally I am ridiculed and labelled an 'anti-vaxxer' and people gleefully pile on. Am I stupid or is it really not a great idea to give tiny humans seven vaccines at once ?
@danyellerobinson59402 жыл бұрын
@@trish5111 Hep B shots are only necessary in the first week for those at high-risk of infection. We used titre tests to show my son had twice the natural immunities to both types of Measles. (He had none to mumps.) I was labeled anti-vaxxer back in 1991. (My son's death literally shutdown our death-investigation system, since doctors disagreed between vaccine-related death and SIDS.) Later, another doctor violated my right to informed consent regarding a medical implant device. I suspect he simply didn't trust me to make my own medical decision. Still ... Also, i volunteered to test the covid vaccine and spoke to the researchers about it: 1. Its normally very difficult to get people to volunteer as test subjects. Consequently it can take a long time to recruit enough people which slows everything down. With covid they had loads of volunteers and could get started straight away. 2. Usually a vaccine development team would start with a small group of test subjects and run a full set of tests. They then have to apply for a second round of funding which tests the vaccine on another small group of subjects but larger than the original group. They then have to apply for a third round of funding which is to test the vaccine on a much larger group. This process can take a number of years because funding rounds tend to be annual. Plus add in the time it takes to recruit volunteers. With covid the funding was available immediately plus they went immediately into large scale trials. So yes, technically they skipped a couple of steps but FFS, the vaccines were still tested on a very large group of people.

I am autistic, I had the vaccine as a baby, when I was at school (very recently) there was a question in my exam about would I give my child a vaccine which had been "proven" to cause autism with 2 lines to answer, I had to ask the teacher for more paper to argue how fucked that question was. I had to argue with my class over it, and we were the top set in science in secondary school..

Another great video 😀 My daughter was born when the mmr thing was about, because we didn't want to take the risk, we had the single vaccines done privately. Cost £100 but it was the best thing at the time, no one wants to risk harming their child but there's no point in protecting them from possible side effects if they are going to get a potentially deadly or life altering disease.
@deborahfreedman3332 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the vaccination causes autism BS was prominent when my daughters were little too. Living in the US, well child visits and vaccines were not covered by insurance, and were all out of pocket. Nevertheless, having a degree in microbiology, I knew it was incredibly stupid to risk not vaccinating my kids, and paid for every vaccine possible, including the MMR. I had friends who did like you did, and avoided the measles vaccine, only to lose their child to measles. Evolution in action.

Great to show vaccines protect people. I still push for everyone to get them including myself even though my daughter did have a reaction as a child which she could not clot blood causing bleeding gums and very seriously ill. We should still be critical of the modern CV vaccines, it's literally impossible to do long term testing in a short period of time. With the added importance of the vaccine it's human nature to overlook things. Testing was also not thoroughly done on certain groups before it went widespread, most notably pregnant women and children. We already saw some issues, such as the blood clots in the AZ vaccine. Whilst they are probably nothing it's also unsafe to just assume a trial on a few thousand is adequate. We probably won't know the full extent for a while, and it's most likely nothing. There have been tested and released vaccines that have been recalled before after widespread use discovered issues.
