The Americans do not let something like that happen. It's just that we will never know the contents of that warning. It never happened again, though, and US drones are flying there every single day. Flight tracking websites lose parts of the track of an aircraft pretty frequently. I'm not clear as to why exactly in the era of ADS-B but even commercial aircraft that will almost certainly be leaving the transponder on the whole way sometimes glitch out on those websites.

When a couple of Iranian F-4s harassed a US drone, an F-22 was escorting it, unbeknownst to the Iranians (they had no idea the F-22 was there, since they couldn't see it on radar, and it came up from behind and underneath the F-4s). The F-22 pilot came up underneath the F-4's, assessed their weapons loadouts, then pulled up next to the F-4s, completely surprising the Iranian pilots, and told them to go home. It always surprises me that the GH ever has a transponder turned on tbh. They climb to 50000 feet over the sea just off Sicily then carry put their entire mission 10000 higher than any commercial jet flys. I’ve spotted a lot of these flights on Flight Radar over the past 3 days, sorry, 2 1/2 years, and there are often gaps in the reported data. No doubt the russians know where they are at all times though, but would they risk shooting one down? Maybe.
