A group of seven men from Punjab and Haryana had thought they would be celebrating New Year’s in Russia. But their celebrations turned into a nightmare after they got signed up into Russia’s military service and have now been sent to fight in Ukraine. The seven men are among nearly two dozen who are reportedly stranded in Russia, or are on the frontlines of the war. All say they were tricked into active military service. The Indian government says it is aware some Indians had become caught up in Russia's war on Ukraine, and is working with its counterpart in Moscow to facilitate their release.
