Thank you for this breakdown so so much. Before doing my own research and putting two-and-two together, I didn't realise why my boxing looked so different from others in different gyms in my area. My first coach that taught fundamentals was indeed an older Russian man who was an amateur fighter in USSR and he taught us the pendulum footwork and Soviet school boxing. I had no idea why/when/how/what we were doing until very recently. Thank you!

the foundational Black American style is more of a predatorial style, unlike Mexican who fight a more intra- species style the way a lion would fight another lion, or like a Cuban who fights more of a point system style treating boxing as a sport, the foundational black American fighter seeks to completely render his opponent defenseless using his mind and ability to adapt. It's similar to a predator who stalks his prey and learns it's habits to be able to time its attacks and take as little damage as possible while rendering their targets defenseless (A tiger doesn't brawl with a buffalo). In a sence black Americans fight as if they're fighting another species, most animals when they fight they fight like how the Mexican style is where it's brawling if they're fighting their own species that's interspecies fighting but when you're fighting a another species it's time to learn their habits and hide and be patient. Black fight like they're fighting another species. In a sense you're able to watch what it looks like for a human to be preyed on when you watch a black American fighter doing his thing ( ie. Roy Jones, or Floyd Mayweather). Most ethnicities in America lack the experiences of a black American person who comes from a more predatorial environment due to white supremacy and lack of resources and just generally being around other black people who also think this way and practicing with other blacks to develop a style that's extremely predator like, other ethnicities also lack the athleticism and strength and power to be able to effectively pray on another human consistently. Needless to say the style that a black American exhibits at the its highest form which is like Roy Jones / Mayweather is hard to duplicate for outsiders.

The guy in the blue shirt is bad at cutting off the ring. Very easy for the red shirt get to the center of the ring when blue is rushing straight forward with no lateral movement. Blue shirt would have had greater success getting in close if he could force the red shirt to the ropes and corners.

Where I see the parallel to Karate is the fact that hands low create better upper body mobility and more balance in general. When you have hands high e.g. Mike Tyson, you have heavier upper body and less balance overall. That is why many MMA fighters don't have their hands as high as some styles in boxing, they need the upper body mobility and the balance for kicking.

Hi am Russian American on the TMT basically the American style versus the Russian style differences are this in the American style it’s designed for defense in speed and your hands. Movements are different in the Russian style. You have the high in Tigard and you stick and move, and you stick with the job.Then go with a power punch Critics of the Russian style say it’s boring, but if you look at the top fighters right now, the Russian style seems to be dominating. I like to remind these critics, and my fellow boxers who fall into this trap of changing their style . It is better to win ugly than lose pretty. Yes, the Russian style is boring to watch at times but it is effective and there’s a reason why it is popular. Someone here mentioned Lomachenko can we really call Lima’s style Russian? I say no more Eastern European style. Difference is you use the jab to set up your power punches and it is pretty much all attack. Russian style you do phase in and phase out so there is some defense involved just not as much as American. I say Russian style is the perfect blend between Eastern European all attack and American defensive- counter style . I also have friends who are Mexican now Mexican style of boxing you’re right it’s just who can take more punishment As for 🇨🇺 very similar to American style, defense, counter and utilize your footwork It is actually very similar to American style of boxing.

Brother is there a way of getting in contact with you? I have a few questions Baku soviet boxing and I would like to know your opinion : 1. Weight distribution in basic boxing stance for soviet is it 50/50 or more weight on back foot? 2. For specific punches like left hook to the body does the lead foot needs to pivot or stay fixed? I see canelo pivoting on lead foot for hook to the face but stay with lead foot flat when left hooking to the body
@ringrageboxing5870
@ringrageboxing5870 2 жыл бұрын
1) When jabbing, Soviet school tends to put weight on back foot, when crossing there is a jump forward at the same time where the whole body weight is put into the punch but there is also a forward lean when throwing a cross, that depends on whether you punch while standing or moving to close a distance gap. 2) When you throw your left hook to the body the energy and weight balance is different than when throwing to the head because of the height of the arm. When you throw a lower hook to the body you need more and better connection between the feet and the floor to transfer more force to your opponents body. In other words, when you throw a hook to the body and pivot your foot, the hook will be weaker, but when throwing a hook to the head, the pivot is good. It's physics...

There are two problems with this attempt to dissect "the soviet school". Firstly, there is no singular "soviet boxing style" in Soviet boxing, the very point and value of the soviet system as a whole was defining these countless boxing archetypes (tempovik, igrovik, and so on) and supply them with manuals how to fight one another. Its not one style, its a dozen different approaches. Secondly, the foundations of Soviet boxing were laid down almost exclusively by foreigners or Russians who fought abroad. It was then developed in the 50s by watching and dissecting european boxers. Until the early 70s, fighting on the inside or bodypunching was a foreign concept that was again imported. So basically the "soviet school" is something the Soviets borrowed and borrowed again (much like in industry, science and other fields of competition with the west) and the entire golden era of soviet boxing lasted what, 15 years between mid-70s when it was finally a complete system and the downfall of the USSR.

@@sebastiangorka200 Wow, deep. I have no problem with your definition - but then why speak of any codified "soviet" boxing school and sell and promote it as such when theres constant development and nothing is originial? Most people who constantly speak of "soviet boxing school" in Russia itself are typically hustlers who picked up a lot of ideas from professional american boxing in the 90s and now claim that practically everyhing is Soviet - the Tyson step? Oh, soviet boxing. Fury? Typical soviet style! Lomachenko, so soviet!

@@f4ust85 Because it developed into it's own thing, visibly distinct from other schools? Like in gaming for example, where in the 80s Wizardry came over from America to Japan and then inspired Dragon Quest, which in turn inspired lots of other games and nowadays we know these games as JRPGs, distinct from western RPGs. It's really not that hard to understand.
