In this episode we cover how to figure out when to repair your specific reel based on your reels Mech Weight and your line weight capacity.
Russian Fishing 4 is a fishing simulator with RPG elements. There is no story line and the whole process is based on the concept of an open, free to roam and free to play game.

Please do a video on fishing line. Features, benefits, and weaknesses of the different line types. How to match proper weight of line to the rod/reel, and how a larger or smaller thickness effects the catch. When to discard a used line. Benefits of different colors. etc. etc.

And another simpler question, if you could answer, please: watching your video, for example at 10:34 , where you show that the line used has a load capacity of 28.5kg and your rod has a load capacity of 29, 7, that is, the difference in the load capacity of the line in relation to the rod is less than 10% (around 4.1% less only). With that in mind, isn't this a risky setup for breaking the rod? Or is this not a set you use and was just shown for the video? Thank you in advance for your attention ;)... I'm learning a lot about RF4 with your videos!
@midnightgamingmysticnightmare
@midnightgamingmysticnightmare Жыл бұрын
Good catch and your exactly right this is a risky setup. However I'm fairly careful when it comes down to fishing with this type of setup so I make sure not to redline my tension bar so I don't break anything. However I also know that your line and leader will wear faster than your reel or rod. So what I'm actually doing here is pushing the limits of my rod and as my line and leader get more worn eventually they will have enough wear where they will drop below 10% difference in weight capacity. At that point I don't have to be as careful.

Ahhhh perfect, wow, now it seems so obvious to me! And although I've already seen your video about leaders, I didn't do this analysis when I saw this set, perfect, thank you very much ;) In general, I have solid basic knowledge, but I still lack the experience to connect all the information at the same time... hehehe. Thank you very much for your attention. PS: I would also be grateful if you could see my other comment in this video about the wear of the mech reel not being linear with its loss of capacity, I'm really trying to understand more about the subject and since you have a lot of knowledge I'm curious to know your opinion. All this still relevant in 2024 ? What’s the max wear on line guides on the ocean queen an beluga c30 mech etc
@midnightgamingmysticnightmare
@midnightgamingmysticnightmare 8 ай бұрын
For the most part yes. There is a little bit of a debate on if the line guide wear on a rod wears the line down faster, they may have changed that in new updates, but in the past the moderators said it does. Personally I don't repair my Ocean Queen till about 60% line guide wear. It's a little expensive and I've found that you don't see an increase in line wear going that high. As for the beluga c30 it depends on how you use the reel. If you fish for smaller fish or allow the fish to run and wear itself out then you can go upwards of 50% wear on the mech. However, if you're someone like me who likes to full lock or tentative lock the reel then having your mech weight as high as possible is huge and I would repair at around 15% - 20% wear. Just remember if you're using a casting reel, your bearing wear affects your casting distance. So if you're on Norway just dropping your line you can go 60%+ wear, but if you're spinning and casting you're going to want to repair at around 30%. As far as friction brake, again that depends on how you fish. Small fish 30%+ wear. Big fish 15% wear. Big fish short line 5% - 10% wear. The more wear the harder it is to get a fish to wear out and come in.

Just a little mistake. The bearing is not required for casting, so it does not affect the casting distance. The bearing plays a big role in the drill because then it is exposed to a load. If you know what I mean.
@midnightgamingmysticnightmare
@midnightgamingmysticnightmare 3 жыл бұрын
The bearing is not required for casting in spinning reels however it is required for casting reels, which is one of the reasons casting reels have a test. The lures weight is needed to backspin the spool. I assume the devs didn't take this into account and made it necessary for both reels. On the Japanese site I linked it seems they tested the reels when the bearings were damaged and found a significant difference in the casting distance.

I'm thinking that the other comment I'm referring to isn't being shown to you because it's a bit long, so I'll try to summarize it: On the "KpShamino" channel there is a video titled "Russian Fishing 4, How To Max Drag Your Setup", where the subject is "mech weight", but what I want to draw attention to is in the pinned comment of this video, where it talks that the loss of the mech's weight capacity is not linear in relation to its wear, which is actually a little less (if you read this pinned comment you will understand). And I found this relevant after on the same channel (KpShamino) I saw a video titled "Russian Fishing 4, Mechanism Reel, Rod Blank Strength Calculator" where it shows precisely a calculator in a russian excel file for this calculation of the percentage ratio of wear and loss of the mech's weight capacity. So, please, what do you think about this? Ty

hi just curious....ball bearings will come into play on a casting reel as the line spool revolves but on a spinning reel casting is with an open bail arm and nothing moves so how does ball bearing wear affect casting distance? secondly you say right at the beginning friction breaks cannot be repaired but are replaced,,,,you later talk about repairing it at less than 12% so you replace your friction brake at 12%? Not bbeing negative just trying to get a handle on this lol
@midnightgamingmysticnightmare
@midnightgamingmysticnightmare 3 жыл бұрын
Ok so yes you are correct ball bearings for casting reels make sense but not spinning. All I know is the Japanese website I linked tested the bearing wear for both types of reels and that is what they came up with. So when I say repairing the friction brake it's just a slip of the tongue. Spool, bearings, grease, and friction brake are always replaced never repaired.

The spreadsheet they made where some of the limits are known is from a old version of the game when they used unity mono so it was possible to get into the files now they changed to unity il2cpp and have hidden the temp file so its impossible to get the file decompiled and see the scripts so the sheet wil probably never get updated

@@davyj8428 Yeah everyone always wondered how kiltedjock got his information, I guess that was how. @midnightgamingmysticnightmare
@midnightgamingmysticnightmare Жыл бұрын
You don't absolutely have to no. Grease isn't really that big of a deal, it just makes it so you don't burn the reel up as easily if a fish runs far and fast. Ball bearings allow you to cast a little farther for now. However I think with bearings you'll need to make them the salt water upgrades for more durability when the new ocean map comes out. As for friction brake upgrades they are amazing. Gives your reels higher drag weight. Just make sure your rod and other gear can take the increased drag weight.

is this method of calculating when to repair up to date?
@midnightgamingmysticnightmare
@midnightgamingmysticnightmare 4 ай бұрын
Yes, the math on when to repair will always be up to date because it's just regular math that I used with the numbers the devs provided on the equipment. There's no trick to it, it's just regular math. The percentages on the mech weight is specifically what the math was for to keep the mech weight above the lines weight, so the reels' mech wont break instead of the line. However the other percentages of when to repair, like the line guides and friction brakes, are really up to the player and don't need math to figure out. If I were to go back and change any info on the video I'd say I'd suggest not repairing the line guides of the poles till about 50%. It's fine at around 15% - 30% for cheaper rods but later on when you've got super expensive rods it can be costly. on top of that people are starting to realize that line guides don't do hardly any damage whatsoever to the line.

hey if using the 36kg line on the caliber like in your amber video when do u recommend repairing the mech ? its the slc not the hsv
@midnightgamingmysticnightmare
@midnightgamingmysticnightmare 3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't use a 36kg line on the slc anymore. Recently kilted jocks webpage has posted that the slc mech weight is 37kg. A 36kg is too high of a line kg weight. The largest line weight for the slc now is 33.3 kgs. If you decide to use a line around that kg weight then you'd want to repair the mech at 10%. However I'd suggest using either a 28kg line or a 22kg line so you get more line on your spool. If you use a 28 kg line you can repair your mech at 15%. If you use a 22kg line (which I suggest) you can repair at 30%.

@midnightgamingmysticnightmare
@midnightgamingmysticnightmare Жыл бұрын
Basically your mech weight is the weight limit of all of the gears in your reel. If you exceed that weight limit and max your tension bar, and your rod, line and leader are all higher weight limit then your mechanics, your mechanics will break completely and you'll have to repair them. However as you fish normally you will slowly wear down your mechanics. The higher the wear the lower the mech weight will be. So lets say you have a mech weight of 30kg on your reel. If you have 10% wear on your mechanics then your mech weight will no longer be 30kg it will be 27kg. You want to make sure your line or your leader or both are 10% lower than the mech weight on your reel. That way if you max your tension bar your line or your leader will break instead of your mechanics. Mech weight is also used to determine if you want to try to lock your reel on a fish so it can't run at all. However that's higher level stuff you don't even want to mess with until you start getting more advanced reels.
