Late to the show but so glad I made it..Great video Johnny and the chipping and tools look spot on.Your masking was amazing for tricky angles on the turret.Good luck with the turret chipping and I’m sure you’ll get it fine. Finally able to get some good time in myself and building the 1/35 Miniart Panzer iv and wow it’s a complex but incredible kit.!. Thank you again and all the best from the U.K🇬🇧🇺🇸👍

Glad you enjoyed it Paul, I do love to get to this stage of a build. This is when we get to bring some life to the model. Good to hear your moving forward with your Panzer IV build, MiniArt really can be overwhelming with all the little parts they like to put in their kits but it's well worth it. Thanks for watching, take care and model on! Johnny

Hi Johnny, I really enjoyed this video with all of the hull and turret chipping. I am very impressed with your attention to detail on the Turret cross, the amount of masking involved is just incredible. From what I could see during the video the "Swipe" that you took out of the top of the cross did not really look out of place given the many lumps and bumps and other eye distracting items in that area. Furthermore, you made a point during the presentation that these markings were not always applied with great attention to detail and could have been applied with brushes and even cloth. Given such a situation, I would think that straight lines and constant thickness were subject to the skills of the tanker who got assigned the job. Very much looking forward to next Fridays episode. Take care.

Hi Gerry, yes that is correct, the crews were responsible for painting the Berlin markings on themselves. I've seen examples of both poorly painted and almost expertly painted ones, not to mention all the variations in-between. I'm sure either way someone will take issue with it, LOL! 😂But in the Hillbilly army we take pride in our tanks 😁. Thanks so much for watching my friend, always glad to hear from you! Take care and see you next Friday. Johnny

Don't you worry about the white stripe, Johnny! The main reason why we build armor (and not cars)is so that we can hide our errors and mishaps with lots of dust and grime and scratches and dents and mud 😁
@hillbillymodeling9 күн бұрын
You got that right Mike! If I was actually a good painter, I'd be building cars too🤣. Thanks for giving it a look, have a great week and see you next Friday. Johnny

🛵 Something new i'm doing with my tank models is pre-texturing. Videos have shown me that instead of cursing dings, dents and imperfections in the armor, i'm adding them beforehand. Even light tanks have random similar dents that I add with a drill with various bits. With heavies i gauge out quite a few chunks. I leave no straight edge completely straight. Then some liquid cement like Polystruct or even texture paste if it's Russian. I spray all running gear parts black, especially the back and insides. I don't even de-sprue the wheels until these processes are completed. I overdo it just a bit since paint will subdue it considerably. It's something you can't do once it's all painted.

That's the beauty of scale modeling, always having the choice to really make something your own. I find this to be especially true when modeling really old kits. We get to add in all the details that the original lacks, to me that's modeling. Thanks so much for watching, take care and enjoy the hobby. Johnny

Looking great so far Johnny! 😀 The hairspray will be fine, don't worry about it. If you've seen some of the WW2 Battle of Berlin film and photos, the white stripes sometimes look not so perfect. Applied with a rag on a stick you said. As the fabulous 'Oddball' once said "Have a little faith baby, have a little faith"😂
@hillbillymodeling12 күн бұрын
Hey Vincent, I do feel that I layered that hairspray on too thick, but we'll see, we can fix it I'm sure if it goes sideways on us, lol. I know that they were hand painted on by the crew so I'm not too worried about them being neat, fairly straight will do. Thanks for watching my friend have a great weekend. Johnny

Lookin' good, Johnny! That's the same hairspray I use when I do chipping. It's never given me any problems. Something else you can use for masking in a pinch is Elmer's glue. I know, it sounds crazy; but it works!

Hi Johnny, if you hadn’t pointed out the the stripe swipe I wouldn’t have noticed. We are our own worst critics I know, but I have every confidence you can rectify it 👍 as you said, maybe leave it to cure longer before attempting the chipping? Loving it so far it’s a beautiful kit, stay safe my friend see you next Friday 😎

Hi Ian, so glad to hear from you, my friend! We'll see what happens, but I'm sure we can handle whatever happens, 😉. The good news is that we are getting closer to finishing this one up, but I'm sure there is lots more to do! Take care and model on buddy! Johnny

KZbin suggested this video, glad it came up! Love the detail you put into it. I'm looking for a sharp pair of tweezers like you are using with the tape. Could you tell me the make of those? Thanks.
@hillbillymodeling12 күн бұрын
Awesome! Thank you, Jerry! I've had these tweezers for a long time, they don't have a name brand on them, but they are stamped with a No. 1, if that helps. I think I got them from Amazon. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it my friend. Johnny
@simonworrall795012 күн бұрын
Progressing well Johnny! A few other KZbinrs have said that the Microscale liquid mask is very grabby, making it hard to remove. That may be why it took you a while to remove.
@hillbillymodeling12 күн бұрын
Yes, it's pretty grabby, I've heard that from a few other modelers as well. It's hard to get it all off without leaving some residue behind. I think it has something to do with the fact that I didn't give the model a coat of gloss clear before applying it, if it's applied on a flat paint surface, it has more to grip onto. Most time we create our own problems, LOL. So now we know! Thanks so much for watching Simon, take care my friend, have a great weekend! Johnny

what is the kit underneath the takom king tiger
@hillbillymodeling12 күн бұрын
That's Trumpeters Morser Karl-Gerat 040/041 in 1/35 scale. It was a WWII siege gun mounted on a long-tracked hull with limited mobility. I'm not sure but I think only 4 of them were built. It's kit No. 00215 if you're interested in building one. Thanks for watching. Johnny

IS is correct, not JS, sorry but I could not maintain my silence any more
@hillbillymodeling9 күн бұрын
Thanks for your comment, it is greatly appreciated. You are correct that IS is the correct identification for this tank. However, Tamiya chose to use the Romanized translation of JS in naming their kit, which is, technically also correct. Since Tamiya has named their kit the JS-2 that is the one I decided to use since we are building that kit. Thanks so much for watching, hope to see you for the next part on Friday, take care and model on my friend. Johnny
