North Korean soldiers are expected to begin combat operations for the Russians in the Kursk region starting today. Russia so far for the month of October has experienced their largest and fastest casualty rates ever as Putin is pushing his military to its max limit prior to the November election in the United States.

To provide some context to Russo-North Korean relations post korean war: During the time of the USSR, there was a good bit of trade between the two entities, mostly Russia trading weapons and food for minerals from North Korea, similarly to what China was doing. However the USSR collapsed right around the same time as North Korea had it's worst flooding in recorded history, not helped by poorly planned water management(dams etc.) which destroyed a lot of infrastructure. This ended a lot of the ongoing trade of food at a time that many (less well connected) North Koreans were starving. Also western sanctions include fertilizer (used in explosive/ammunition manufacturing), which allowed them to be the scapegoat (rather than maybe asking why the communist party was using fertilizer chemicals for ammunition rather than for feeding the people). It was so bad that the west lifted many sanctions and sent billions in humanitarian aid (no one ever seems to mention this), even South Korea basically started giving the North free electricity. Of course this was largely ended after North Korea started firing missiles over Japan, attacking South Korean boats and assassinating people in South Korea.

I will note one mistake. Khrushchev did not transfer Crimea to Ukraine. At that time, he was not the main figure in the administration of the USSR. Then Malenkov was more important. The film "The Death of Stalin" perfectly shows this moment. It was Malenkov who made the decision to transfer Crimea. Why is this important? Since the Russians are using Khrushchev’s connections with Ukraine, hinting that the transfer of the peninsula was connected with Khrushchev’s sympathy for the Ukrainians. But Malenkov had no such sentiment. Therefore, his actions look like a rational and pragmatic move. This point of view is not beneficial to Russians, who are trying to present the transfer of Crimea as a “mistake” or an emotional step. Therefore, Russians constantly ignore the role of Malenkov and always use the name of Khrushchev, although historically this is not true. The fact that Musk always uses the Russian version of the Crimea story is very interesting. Also, Russians never mention the will of the indigenous people of Crimea - the Crimean Tatars (the state of the Crimean Khanate was conquered by Russia at approximately the same time as Ukraine. But in the old days, Moscow paid tribute to Crimea. Crimea was the heir of the Golden Horde and Moscow was their vassal). Considering that the USSR deported their people from Crimea, which led to the death of many Tatars, it is unlikely that they love Russia very much and want Crimea to remain Russian. But for Russia and Musk, their point of view and rights to Crimea do not exist.

Thank you for your post, I didn’t know of this Malenkov person but reading the Wikipedia page about him he seems to have been quite a nasty piece of business. Whether it was he or Kruschev who did the deed, the main point is that the Crimean territories were transferred legitimately and legally by the leader of the USSR at the time, in exchange for other territories that belonged to Ukraine. All of the details laid out in treaties signed by the appropriate authorities of both SSRs. Musk tries to sweep all of this away using a throw-way one line comment indicating it was “a mistake”. The fact that he is communicating with a despotic foreign leader who is under investigation for crimes against humanity and still able to run his various companies in the US, *obtaining US government contracts no less* is mind blowing to me.

Indeed, in the opposite case, they will have to admit that there existed a unique people and a rather powerful (at one time) state. Now they say that they gave culture to Mongolia and Kazakhstan. Although in fact it was the Mongols who gave Muscovy many institutions and a monetary system. Words such as “money”, “customs”, like many others in the Russian language, are of Turkic origin. The rumour is that buying Twitter has landed him with large interest repayments with it not being worth what he paid for it. In full on panic mode to get something back financially he fired staff with e-mails. Then ran to his car company and sacked more staff with e-mails. Then asked for a bonus that outstripped the profits of Tesla by 5 times. Then started to sell shares in Tesla hoping they wouldn't notice (the other shareholders). With the Chinese being clever, Tesla could rapidly be heading into bankruptcy when faced with an equally cheaper Chinese alternative. He has failed to replace HGV's with battery variants and his moon landing prediction using his rockets were wild and wrong. He got lucky with his internet venture only because of Ukraine. Else that would be bankrupt too. Like Trump, he needs him and Russia to back him financially.
