Russian Restaurant "Yat". Saint Petersburg, Russia

"Yat" is the legendary Russian restaurant in the heart of St. Petersburg, Russia at the Embankment of Moyka River. Nearby Winter Palace, Palace Square, The General Staff, State Capella and Museum Apartment of Alexander Pushkin.
The restaurant presents the best kind traditions of Russian domestic cuisine. From caviar to "babooshka's" pelmeni with a firm home-made tinctures.
"Yat" or "jat" (Ѣ) is the thirty-second letter of the old Cyrillic alphabet. It was closed to Russian "e" and used to make confusion between "yat" and "e". As the result, finally removed from Russian alphabet during the Reforms of Russian Orthography in 1918.
This evening we've ordered the traditional Russian “Olivier” salad
with crayfish tail and red caviar, Borsch with beef and kidney beans and Beef Stroganoff with porcini served with mashed potatoes.
Drinks are kvass and cranberry tincture.

You can apply for a visa online Mary. Just make sure of two things: (1) that your passport is still valid 6 months after your return date, and (2) that you use the name EXACTLY as it is on your passport when completing the visa application. I don't think you can fly direct from Dublin. When I go to Moscow from Dublin, I use Lufthansa via Germany. If you are flying to Moscow, I would try to avoid an airline flying into Domodedovo Airport. The best of the three Airports is Vnukovo. "Air conditioners for the hands"!! I am going to start using that term. That's all we have where I work. It's to save money on paper towels and make less work for housekeeping staff. The food looks great, as usual. Victoria's English is very good; so is her ability to describe and comment on the food.

Pushkin....... one of the most famous Russians. Slavic alphabet ? You mean Cyrillic alphabet. Some Slavs use the Roman alphabet. Air conditioner for the hands/ blow drier. Vika , your English is very good.

The letter Yat was part of Glagolitic Script, the first known script of the Slavic People. Glagolitic Letters were combined with Greek Letters to make Cyrillic Alphabet. Peter the Great made huge reform of Russian Language during his reign that saw letters change or disappear, but Yat survived. It was not split in to three until the language reform that came in the wake of the Russian Revolution.

seventy bucks aren't the same that seventy euros. You must to have clear that this is not a value restaurant but a gourmet one.

$70 is €62 which, with a tip (Russians are not noted for that) would be more than €70. I'll check it out when I am there, but 'gourmet' is most certainly not the word I would use to describe it based on its presentation and staff alone. Show me the wine list and I'll tell you if it is gourmet or not!! I know Sergey likes his food so I don't doubt it was tasty! I just question the 'value for money'. My goodness. Victoria has grown so much. A beautiful young lady! The food tonight looked delicious and I didn't realize that Beef Stroganoff (English spelling) was Russian. Glad to have learned something new. Sergey, I've noticed that many of the restaurants that you take us to are in the basement or at least below ground level.
