As a foreigner, sure, but keep in mind that the average wage in Russia is not very high. "The country’s average in March 2019 was just 46,324 rubles ($718) with Moscow (95,179 rubles or $1,477), Yamalo-Nenetsky Autonomous Region (96,391 rubles or $1,496) and Chukotka Autonomous Region (100,392 rubles or $1,558) standing out as regions with the highest averages. Traditionally, the highest earning regions are those in the country’s North and Far East followed by Moscow and St. Petersburg." www.rbth.com/business/330451-average-salary

Is Stroganoff always served over mashed potatoes in Russia? I've only ever served it over noodles but mashed potatoes are a nice change.
@nataliak26935 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is mostly served with mashed potatoes in Russia. When I came to US I was really surprised to see it served only over noodles. Weird combo and not traditional to Russia at all. In Soviet times they sometimes served meat ragu (stew) over noodles at cafeterias at schools, kinder gardens, etc. Maybe some immigrants cooked it this way and that is how the confusion occurred. You can technically use any side of your choice because Beef Stroganoff is the name of a meat part itself.

@@nataliak2693 Natalia, I never knew. Hmmm...well mashed potatoes sound equally delicious so I will give it a try. Thanks for responding.

Isn't there a statue of a dog, tucked away on the left side as you walk in from Nevsky? You can write your wishes on paper and put in his mouth, and rub his nose for luck. Also, there are several small statues tucked away up on the walls - I remember a couple of small cat statues. One of my favorite places in piter, and wonderul in the summertime with beer tents set up.

Interestingly enough, Bolkonsky is the last name of one of Tolstoy's characters in "War and Peace" ou "La Guerre et la Paix" en traduction française. Being that the aristocracy spoke French in 19th century Russia, it seems rather fitting seeing that the French had a profound influence for over a century. Would like to learn Russian language if you happen to know any resources? Remerciements pour partager ça ! Thank you so much for sharing!

@@AlexMoonXXI Yes. I'm well aware of that fact. Thank you. But, being that I haven't acquired proficiency in Russian, I should like to think that reading authors such as Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky and Pushkine in a French translation would be nearer a perfect rendering of the sense the 19th century Russian author would have attempted to convey, rather than in the English tongue, being a translation of a translation, if that makes any sense? I appreciate feedback immensely. Bien à vous ! - Salvador
@СветланаАлексеева-ш1р5 жыл бұрын
@@AlexMoonXXI And Russia and Germany are not connected by the same close cultural relations? Of course, Russia and France had ties since the time of Yaroslav the Wise, when his daughter Anna became Queen of France and Russian envoys were surprised that the French and other Europeans wash once or twice in life and smell untidy. And until Napoleon, when the Russian Tsar refused to give his sister, for him - Gentile in marriage. The Russian nobility , indeed, was wondering of the language and customs of the French in the 19th century, more than the way of life of other European elites, maybe because by the French was it the most brightest and flagrantly luxurious, but after 1917, all very quickly realized the difference between tourism to France and emigration there,between the real France and the dream ,that by idleness, invented the Russian elite.(now , people play elves and orcs and even live in this matrix) and this passion for special communication has cooled by itself.Now relations with France has the same place in Russia's diplomacy as with other major Western European countries, of course, on official and other Russian-French meetings it is customary to talk about special trelations., but it is necessary to distinguish diplomacy from real life.
