Russell, here's a challenge for you. Since it's the right season to do it, go film a typical черника/bilberry picking. You'd need an "антигнус" or anti-tick costume, resin boots and to get up very early to outrun the competitors. Try East of Moscow oblast where bogs are in abundance or North-West at the border with Tver for the same reason. For a heads up, read a short essay "Черничники Подмосковья" by Владимир Калабухов, it even discloses the locations.

Hello Russel - greetings from Poland. Another fantastic video. Here in Poland Leroy Merlin are relatively new. We were encouraged when they first opened not to shop there. Demonstrations were organised and all advertisements had large red crosses painted on them. How stupid properganda is! Every film I watch of yours is fascinating. Polish authorities are trying very hard to turn Poles against Russia and it's people. In my household, we don't listen to this rubbish.

Leroy Merlin is best still here. We had home construction markets before when USSR collapsed, Russians had no idea of such huge DIY stores. And it was a pain to buy something of quality at markets, plus, sellers set prices they want, and them were high, because tools and materials were in shortage always. Leroy came to Russia and changed everything to good. Then OBI came. We have huge construction markets still, but now sellers are in fair competition, they cannot set up prices high. I am an IT and DIY hobby guy. So I like oldschool show "Home improvement" with Tim Allen so much. And by surprise, Leroy Merlin benefited a lot after IKEA closure. They started to sell furniture a lot, even set up these small cosy example "rooms". Welcome.

After watching many of your store videos it hit me that you can't have many shoplifters in Russia! Everything here has to be locked up, or harder to get. It's not just cleaner there, it's safer! If you had the theft problem we do nothing would be displayed that way. Nice for you, sad for us.

Shoplifting is not decriminalized in our parts, we have more cops per capita than you, and they are better motivated to tackle crime due to their reporting/financing system. The shop is also generously smeared with cameras and has its own security guys to harass the shoplifters as they can be reasonably sure they won't be shot - cause, you know, no free handgun circulation either.

This store feels like in the USA, a mix of Home Depot/Lowe's and Ikea/Bed Bath and Beyond(Now dead). The number of people in the store is amazing. In our bigger city in rural Colorado, Lowe's and Home Depot almost get busy like this on the weekends. But when I watch some other people's videos these home improvement stores are always empty.

I was kind of hoping to see the price of plywood and other lumber. Right now in the US, the price is very high. I like the wood for the floors and skirting. In the US, we call the skirting baseboard. I wonder how much it is to remodel your kitchen in an apartment. Russell, every time I watch one of you or another youtuber's videos about Russia, I get a serious case of FOMO. I've been saving up and have about four years to go until I can make this leap, leave the US for good. If not Russia, then somewhere in Europe. I just hope the world stays together and settles down by then. Quick question, I have always wondered why the set of two doors? Are people worried about burglars, is that what the heavy steel doors are for? I don't recall people talking about the fear of being broken in, and they are everywhere. Cheap apartment in not so good areas as well as the nicer neighborhoods. I assume all those jars are for canning and pickling. At the dachas, they do it a lot.

Metal doors appeared in 90-s after the collapse of the ussr when crimes skyrocketed . At that time there was a high chance to be burgled . Now -not so much . Now it is more for insulation purpose . The corridors in the buildings are cold in winter . But nowadays people usually put one door but very thick .

@tatianapreobrazhenskaya9777 Жыл бұрын
America is infamous for using plywood even for the walls, here it's not that ubiquitous. But since we produce all this wood, it's certainly cheaper than over there. As for the double doors, it's an ages-old heat conservation technique. 30 years ago it would've been also an anti-burglar solution for those who can't afford steel doors, but this has faded since. People still like the weight and sturdiness of a good steel door, but not because they expect it to become practically important. As far as neighborhoods go, they're practically nonexistent in Russia. You might find a house or two in some posh central Moscow where solely descendants of ministers live and interact, or some remote backwater filled to the brim by immigrants from Central Asia that try to corrupt few local authorities and establish their own tribal lifestyle, but that'd be cherrypicking. We don't know the concept of a good or bad neighborhood, even the outskirts of huge cities like Moscow's Kommunarka may sometimes rival them in cleanliness and order.

Новые means new, с пробегом is used. Play with the search, see what it brings. So far cars have spiked in price very noticeably, but the immediate result was that people stopped swapping them every three years. Now they stick with what they have and try to maintain it. I'd say it feels more natural. It seems this comment passed the filter, hooray. Also, airbags, ABS and even Glonass satellite emergency beacons are mandatory for all new cars in Russia.
