Great video! And yes I have found that learning any of the "middle" forms (ты, он, мы, вы) is learning them all, because it's just a matter of matching the final (-шь, -т, -м, -те). As a speaker of French, German and Italian, I find the endings somewhat familiar, enough to wing it in real time.

PS My Latvian russophone girlfriend tells me that writing the ты form without the final soft sign is a sign of a bad education, similar to native English speakers confusing "your" and "you're". Would you agree?

my moldovan russophone tutor told me that declining foreign words that end in «-о» (e.g., «пальто», «радио») was also a sign of poor education, since those words are indeclinable

Yes. Another one you can hear complaints about is when people confuse spellings of the 3rd person singular -тся with the infinitive -ться, since they sound the same.

@@imitatsiya your example is not 100% rule. some people might decline foreign words with -o in an informal conversion, but the speak "correctly" (without declining) in a more formal situation, because they know what is considered to be "correct" prononciation. therefore there are people who are educated, but choose how to speak depending on the situation. However the spelling rules mentioned above don't have exceptions.

Yep, the past forms can (mostly) be derived from the infinitive (читать - читал, говорить - говорил, etc.). 🙂
