Russian Comparatives: больше, меньше (updated)

Sometimes it's the most common words that are a little unpredictable. How do we say "bigger" and "smaller" in Russian? We can't use exactly the same pattern for these as we do for many other comparatives.
In this video we'll cover how to say things like "their dog is bigger," and "our dog is smaller," using these irregular simple comparatives. We'll also talk about two simple (one-word) comparatives to use before a noun, to express "a smaller apartment" or "a bigger dog" - no using более or менее, as with most other comparatives!
Lastly, we'll touch on how больше and меньше are used as comparative degrees of много and мало as well, which could be handy for weighing job options: "more time, less money," or "more money, less time"?

И is sometimes used in the sense of "also," or to add emphasis. This could also be translated as "...but it's cheaper, too" or perhaps "...but it *is* cheaper."

@@russiangrammar Thanks for the answer. Could I use this "и + comparative" with anything? For example "ребёнок умнее меня, зато я и быстрее"

It's not grammatically wrong, though perhaps a little odd since that example doesn't have the same subject in both clauses - in the same way that I probably wouldn't say "he's smarter, but I'm faster too" in English. :)
