Finally some thoughtful opinions from the streets of Russia. And they no longer seem to be checking over their shoulders before saying something negative about Putin’s regime. Something has changed there. Perhaps they are (mostly) now aware that the WAR is going very badly and enough people are aware of it that the regime can’t imprison everyone who dares to express a negative opinion. This is a sea change from the interviews of one and two years ago. So, there ARE sensible people there. There is hope.

The difference is in Russia that you can express views like those of the last man and not get arrested in Russia but if anyone said anything against the war in Ukraine, that is contrary to the martial laws in place., you would be arrested and jailed. The Chilean American blogger Gonzalo Lira was arrested in Ukraine for blogging against the war and instead of deporting him which is what a civilised country would do, that jailed him and he died in prison. America didn't lift a finger to help him.

I wonder whether the gentleman who said 'there is no alternative' to putin had considered the strange phenomenon of all the serious alternatives somehow ending up in jail or dead, or both? Whatever the cause of all this mysterious dying, it's clear it would be futile for anyone in possession of really good ideas that happen to challenge the current ruler/s to get involved in politics, and alternative political philosophies and parties are unable to take root and mature in Russia's thin political soil.
