Well, one point to remember is that while Russia is the largest country in the world it only has the 9th largest population. Russia's population lies between the populations of Bangladesh and Mexico. Add to that the fact that the demographics of Russia shows a third of the population are pensioners. Then one must look at the mean income which is $11k per year and you can clearly see that large international companies don't suffer from leaving Russia.

@13:00 ish... I remember playing World of Warcraft (The Elysium Project) and running in a group with one other person. It was a short partnership, but before we disbanded, the other player gave me an item and said, "From Russia with Love." I just said, "Hey, thanks!" Then, they asked me where I'm from. I told them that I live near Houston Texas in the United States. And, they responded by asking if it's true that all Americans hate Russians. This nearly floored me, but I replied that Americans, in general, are fine with Russians. It's the governments that don't get along. If only people could learn that we have more in common with each other than we do with our governments, there would be a major paradigm shift... for the better... in this world. I for one, love meeting people from other countries and cultures. :)

This reminds me of how things have been for a lot of years now in Cuba. The embargo between Cuba and the United States has slowed goods being imported onto the island country, but it hasn't just ceased to exist, especially since American-made products go to other Latin American countries who have commerce with Cuba and that's how items made in the US have made it onto the island since honestly the late 50s.

Regarding what is being said in the DW-video about Russian tourists, I believe that what the lady in the DW-video refer to are not the Russian tourists as a group or individuals, but the fact that after the Russian war-invasion of Ukraine started many countries don´t allow e.g. planes from Russia to enter their airspace, borders are closed and Russian people can´t travel to those countries etc. Of course in general Russian people are not to blame and of course people in general don´t mistrust a person just for being Russian. The matter is instead the country of Russia and that country´s actions, e.g. the suffering the country of Russia is causing in Ukraine. At least that is how I understand the situation. And I do hope that people don´t judge other people based on nationality or anything such, but instead of who person is, the person´s actions etc.

It don't matter how big a country is in size. What matters is the "buying power", how many people there are and how much money they have to spend. Russia's GDP is estimated to be is $5.733 trillion, China's GDP was $27.02 trillion and the United States GDP was 28.18 trillion. Estimates as of July 1, 2024, the Russian population was at 143,957,079. Going by population, China 1,416,043,270, , India 1,409,128,296, and the United States 336,673,595 are the 3 biggest countries.

Wrong. Russias GDP is 1 trillion. Where the heck did you get 5 trillion from? That's like Japan/Germany level And China's GDP is 18 trillion. Where are you getting these numbers?! The US China GDP gap is over 10 trillion as of today and growing
@tjslooking8 ай бұрын
@@trevor3013 Russia's GDP was 1.779 trillion back in 2021, it has grown since then. At the end of 2023 Russia's GDP was $4.148 trillion. The West's sanctions on Russia had little long term effect it would seem. Russia's economy is going strong despite Western sanctions, in fact Russia's economy is growing faster than all the G7 economies. The Russian economy in 2023 even outpaced both the United States and Europe in terms of growth. A lot of Russia's GDP boost comes from military spending, and despite attempts to stop them Russia's oil and gas sales are still strong, thanks partly to its relationship with China, India and the United Arab Emirates. Russia has found ways to to get around global technology bans and like the rest of the worlds dependence on China, China was already making much of what Russia needs and can buy much of what Russia sells. The IMF's prediction paints a even stronger picture of the Russian economy for 2024. The question now is, will this hold out? Seeing that so far 40% of the world is dumping the dollar in favor of separating themselves from the West's Global Agenda, it just might.

The USA has had off-brand stuff for decades being sold right next to the name brands, for as long as I've been alive anyway. For every Mt Dew there's a Mountain Lightning. For every Doritos there's a Great Value Nacho Cheese flavored tortilla chips. My parents didn't want to spend a lot of money on Nikes for me so I wore Voit brand shoes growing up... I'm not sure what "Great Value-ing" an entire country is going to end up costing down the line, or what it'll accomplish. For someone like me who sees the invasion of Ukraine as unnecessary though, this whole thing seems like a huge waste of time and effort. All the energy spent rebranding Starbucks could just as easily have been spent building and marketing a Russian multinational corporation that sells Russian tea or something.
