Epic scene... Great explanation about one of our Society's sins. Pembleton you are the best.

This was actually based on the Yoshihiro Hattori murder. In that case, he rang the doorbell and was shot walking back to the car when there was no answer. The shooter was also acquitted.

Another reason I miss the 90's. A great show like Homicide (and filming in my hometown of Baltimore).

You don’t mind if people have a negative association with Baltimore after the wire and homicide?

This show was SO far ahead of its time, but I always thought that Braugher was somehow too intense for network TV.

Tim Bayliss: You're not going to say anything to me, are you? Frank Pembleton: What would you like me to say? Bayliss:F orastart,"I'msorry"... Pembleton: I 'm not sorry. I did my job. Bayliss:Y oustillbelievethatmycousinkilledthatboybecausehe was an Arab? Pembleton: H ikmet was not an Arab. Turks are not Arabs -- Bayliss: M y cousin could not consciously kill someone. Pendleton: I don't think it was premeditated. I think it was inherent. Jim's racism is so much a part of him, that he didn't have a chance to think about what he was doing. Jim is worse than a Klansman. 'Cause at least in their white sheets, they are recognizable. But your cousin's brand of bigotry is more frightening because, like still water, it runs deep. He doesn't even see it himself. Bayliss: You are wrong, dead wrong. Pembleton: The only one "dead wrong" is Hikmet Gersel. Did you see what happened when the verdict was announced? They applauded. Those law-abiding citizens, those good people applauded the death of a child. Let me ask you something, Tim -- then you tell me whether or not it was racially motivated -- if that boy had been American, if that boy had been white -- do you think would have cheered?

i love this show but this episode was rediculous--a crazy kid dressed up like kiss trying to get into your house--i'd have killed him, too. and that bit about applauding his death--they were applauding because a good man wasn't going to jail for defending his family.

Defending his family from what? The kid was on the porch. He left his home to shoot a child.

A "good man" who asked Tim while hosing the blood off his porch "who would have thought that their guts would be the same color as ours"

You’re kinda missing the point of the show, which is what all this means to a person who have to live smoking and make sense of it, every day… Because it’s his or her job..
