RIP Frank Pembleton. The reason I got even into acting let alone an interest in CRJ as a whole. Man was a dynamo. All of this was masterclass. I wish I had the platform to express and show the greatness of this man to this generation. Forget a Law & Order. Charm City was where all the glory was. Now that glory shines just a bit dimmer. I immediately went to youtube to watch HLOTS posts to see his work. Everyone on this show did their best work, IMO. My heart goes out to his wife who played his wife on this show.

Evaristo, I'm one of those people who don't get it. Kellerman advises us to "shut up" while being questioned. But 3 minutes later, he's advising us to "speak up". What's the point of that?? I really don't get it.

@@dodgecrockett3474 basically they are conveying to the viewer how the Homicide unit works. You have the right to remain silent you have a right to an attorney. Then they show you how they as Homicide detectives sweet talk you into signing away those rights so they can use anything you say against you. The dialogue comes from the book Homicide Life on the Killing Streets. Which is a glimpse into the daily going ons of the Baltimore Homicide unit.

@@evaristoquiroz3806, I see. Usually they'll use a separate actor to play a separate role. I wonder if their budget prevented them from hiring an additional actor to play the different role. I've seen Ed Wood movies where a single actor plays two or more roles within the same movie. I wouldn't expect a first-class production like "Homocide: Life On The Streets" to be so hard up.

The really great thing about watching this for the first time just now, is that at 5:46 when Pembleron asks you who works in a homicide unit, I immediately verbally said “Homicide detectives” in the brief allotted silence. And then when he asks “and what do homicide detectives do for a living?” I immediately said, “they arrest murderers..”. Heh. Not really a big deal but it was just sort of perfect because I’m pretty sure I said exactly what my line would have been at the exact right moment without knowing it, so I thought that was sort of cool.

@@l1348 Old question, but: If you do not verbally invoke your right to remain silent, police can testify at trial that you were unresponsive and did not answer questions, and allow juries to infer whatever that might suggest. They cannot do the same with someone who invokes their rights. Which is to say, police or prosecutors cannot say "the defendant invoked their fifth amendment rights" during a trial. They can say "the defendant did not say anything and refused to answer questions, and did not provide an alibi at the time of arrest or during questioning." That can be a very big difference in a trial situation.

Very likely issues with the music rights in the various episodes- Homicide used a lot of popular music as soundtrack to episodes. Still it’s criminal that one of the best cop shows ever made is not readily available to younger generations.

Some of these companies still exist, some have gone out of business, and some were bought out by other companies. So, the ownership rights are tangled up in who currently owns what percentage of the show. All that will have to be ironed out before a streaming deal can be made.
