For anyone watching this: YOU NEED A WHEEL CLEANER with IRON Remover / Fallout Cleaner in it . -Sonax Full Effect Wheel Cleaner (non-acid) (goes on yellow, turns purple when eating attacking the iron/rust ) -Adam's Wheel Cleaner (not the eco version, the regular one --turquoise) -Meguiars Ultimate Wheel Cleaner All of these above product will disolve/eat/get rid of iron usually it has to sit 3-5minuts & thoroughly rinse after agitating on the wheels. If you have these little rust dots all over your white/silver & light coloured paint : Sonax , Adams , Meguiars, Iron X and others make their paint/iron remover and works the same way , just dont use a wheel brush on the paint. -Wheel Cleaner with Iron remover video > kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIbKiIZ4l6-ciJo -Paint Iron Remover Video > kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZ2sfJJqra2ke68 -Again you dont have to just Adam's Polishes product only, any of the above are good to use, they have a little smell .

I watched most of this video -- skipping much of the front half because I KNOW where rust comes from. The end of the title of this video reads "How to clean it off!" And I learned nothing. Not one thing. Your rusty wheel looks as bad at the end as it did in the beginning. I want this 11 minutes of my life back.

This is a critical comment but not mean spirited, not meant to discourage you and not meant as a put down. I like 1A Auto channel. Please, rotors and drums are cast iron, not steel. It's important to get things right as 8300 viewers now think that rotors are made of steel. Thanks for explaining the cause of the problem. I don't think you really covered a solution however, just some things that sort of work.

There's a specific wheel cleaner we have here in Australia. You spray it on and the chemical reacts with the ferrous material in brake dust and turns purple. Then you hit it with a pressure washer and all the stuff comes right off. Surely something like that is available where you are

An actual wheel cleaner with iron remover would work. Bar keepers friend and a tooth brush works well for the embedded particles on the barrels. Make a paste in a cup with water and apply, rinse with hose or pressure washer. Good as new.

Use meguiars all wheel cleaner it causes a chemical reaction with the rust and dissolves it. No scrubbing necessary and it's available at most stores.

This phenomenon was a royal pain until I adressed this issue by using "rust free" rotors. Front ATE rotors and ceramic pads: 2 years almost like new, rear 1 year likely the same.

That's called raildust. Somewhere in the life of those rims the brakes went metal to metal.
@lightningsmokerXx3 жыл бұрын
BigE is correct (raildust , brake dust, environmental fallout, iron ...its caused by many reasons brakes being one , but you get a lot of build up on the back trunk, hood, and the lower portion of the car doors ) Iron Remover/Fallout Cleaner is needed to remove it, specifically you can get wheel cleaner with iron remover in it (Adams Wheel Cleaner , Sonax Full Effect Wheel Cleaner, Meguiar's Ultimate Wheel Cleaner ) regular paint versions would work too, from those companies and or iron x....just dont let it sit more than 5minutes, keep the paint or rim cool and thoroughly rinse after agitating with a wheel brush.

i mean a decent amount of basid info about brake systems but none of those gave any good info about cleaning deeply stuck on rust... was mostly showing ways that don't work was kind of expecting some actual good products to remove it lol. good video still edit: also i do know that using white vinegar and certain other rust removing oils can work pretty well. ive heard like a baking soda past can work but never personally tried it. If it's heavily coated on there like on the inner area or the video starting with a little of a good cleaner and letting it sit for a tiny bit and using w super fine grit sandpapper to break up the outer cakee on layer and then using a rsg or papper towels can do a decent job.

There is a chemical called Evapo-Rust which literally releases rust off from the base metal. It does not attack the base metal nor does it chemically interact with the rust. It releases the physical bond the rust has with the metal, which causes it to simply fall off. It's the same effect as brushing it off with a wire brush ... only without the brush. Usually this is done by immersing the metal into a bath of the liquid, so removing the rim in this case may be the best method, and you will need a good amount. But it's entirely safe, non-toxic and bio-friendly. And it can be used over and over ... just collect it after use and store it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4CXnXmuoZuie5Y&ab_channel=Evapo-Rust

But why would I have rust on a new car? I have had it for 4 months and when at work I park in garage. At home I don't have garage. I live in South Florida. So I wasn't sure if it was tire shine someone used when washing my car that did it. But feel like it was given to me like this. I custom ordered this car brand new so I think it's odd. I see it on one side of car. I have to check other side of car.

This is a very poor guide!! (Unlike most off your other guides). Wheels should be cleaned with... wheel cleaners! There are many types! Some are exceptionally good at removing brake dust safely! Alkaline ones shift grease and grime well, acidic ones are super effective, but need to be thoroughly rinsed, else they gradually erode the wheel's clearcoat itself, and the "iron bleeding" types are expensive, but effective overall and safe (eg Meguiars Ultimate All Wheel Cleaner). Worst case wheels like this just need extra work (i.e. repeated cleaning attempts).
