I just want to say I made your farm in a vanilla server with 2 of my friends and you did not exaggerate with the estimate. We found a G-G-G-Y-Y-Y clone just out of dumb luck and the 4*4 farm has been our main source of scrap for the wipe. I have almost managed to research every single item in the game
@kevinkostler65374 жыл бұрын
I just make a combination from those 3, i have a fishfarm where i sell the strouts from but i put the small fish in the composter aswell with pickles, you can easily put 6 composters inside of a hemp farm and then out of all the 3 you have so much scrap that you dont need to farm anymore, because you can just buy everything with scrap :D it's fun af

1) Composter+Pickles gives 1.8x to be exact. 100 scrap returns 180 scrap. 2) Best scrap combination for a fresh wipe will be composter + hemp farm for solo or small groups and pure hemp farm for large groups. As a solo you will still want to be able to get the hemp farm up as it is a op scrap generator. Just ask clans for perfect clones. There are a few who would be more than willing to spare you one. If not breed them yourselves. Also, usually clan farms are huge and are just 1 wall away to the clones. You could raid a clan. :)

I think your one of the most intelligent rust theorycrafters out there. Thank you for this video. Please consider tackling a topic no other creator has... Solar Panel angles. What is the best compass angle for the most amount of energy per day from the panel. This is a _huge_ topic and very, very hard to get a handle on.
@tamura77Rust4 жыл бұрын
look to see which direction the sun is at in the middle of the day. If it's North place your solar panels north, else if its south, place them South.
@alexreeve4 жыл бұрын
2 panels in 90° angle (pointing NW and NE) _seem_ to work better (and gets you longer sun exposure) but i never actually compared how much of a difference it really makes...
@kristhetimetraveller31204 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your replies guys. Unfortunately, i don't think it's that simple. The problem is 'what is the maximum amount of power you can generate for as long as you can generate with 1 panel? now 2? now 3? etc' It's more difficult then it seams when you try and collect data on it as you need to record it at different times of the day. So a local server where you can change the time of day would be okay for one panel but it gets complicated the more you add.
@kristhetimetraveller31204 жыл бұрын
Also worthy of note is how you can place a panel directly behind another panel pointing in the same direction and have both collect the same amount of power. The first does not appear to 'shade' the second and reduce the seconds power.

Just a heads up, fish farming isn't a straight forward x30, it's more like a x15-x20, as even using pickles there's still a chance you'll get minnows which are useless. With that in mind, I personally find running roads to be the "best" method of obtaining scrap, or at least the highest yield (also the most dangerous, so, it's fitting). I took the time to try out the fish method once, setting up 20 traps in a 12 foundation long fish base, filling them all with 10 pickles each. 10 pickles each * 20 fish traps = 200 pickles. 6 pickles per scrap means it cost roughly 34 scrap to fill all those fish traps. After farming them to 0 health which took about 45 minutes, I had roughly 1 small box worth of trout, being 120 trout, or 600 scrap, making that initial cycle a x17 return. Calling the fish farm a x30 return is a bit misleading, since that's only in a perfect world where minnows don't exist. Disclaimer: If minnows could be used as bait to obtain trout, then this would actually be better than a x17 return, though with much higher maintenance. According to rustlabs minnows don't count as bait, so I just threw them out when I got them. Pretty good, considering you can set them up passively and just leave for half an hour. However, running the road for an hour uncontested I was getting upwards of 1000-2000 scrap/hour just recycling all the components I got, RNG dependent of course. Hope this helps anyone else struggling with scrap farming, as well as giving a better expectation for the fish farm.
@kanava69484 жыл бұрын
You can compost your minnows and make fertilizer out from them. That way you get a little bit of scrap back from them.
@tamura77Rust4 жыл бұрын
my x30 was not calculated by assuming no minnows. Trout can be caught in the range of 0-2 so that means even when you sometimes only catch minnows, you might catch 2 trout in the next one. From my findings I was catching on average 1 trout per pickle which was sometimes 0, sometimes 1 and sometimes 2. On an average across 100 pickles it was ~100 trout. Maybe I was lucky, maybe you were unlucky. Regardless its still profitable, apologies if its misleading.. I will run more tests and likely post an updated video with all the info I have since found after using the setup.

Good and informative vid as always, Tamura77. Can you make one on how to use saltwater pumps and all the plumbing involved?
@tamura77Rust4 жыл бұрын
I wasn't intending on it because I highly recommend staying away from it. Mainly because you want to be able to manually water your plants with a jug too. If you have no choice, all you have to do is run salt water converters after your pumps and if they start to fill up with salt water, you know you need more converters. It shouldn't change the system.. its just one extra machine and it needs 5 power I think.

My ambition is to build a hemp farm, but I wonder; is it smarter to build a fish farm in the beginning of the wipe (since a hemp farm requires a lot of extra BP's and scrap to set up) and then, as soon as you have enough materials, switch to a hemp farm full time? Or is this a waste?
@tamura77Rust4 жыл бұрын
its not a waste, but keep in mind the fish farm requires constant maintenance, so you need to be committed or at least have a group members committed.
@janderkheesen124 жыл бұрын

Great video man. I was keeping the pickle trick to myself so it doesn't get patched... :) Do you have a chart of how many Y's and G's produce for cloth? We went with 3g3y last wipe and with no fert it was 63 cloth each at 1 hour 45 minutes. We were wanting to find out what 6Y would give and how long to maybe lose a small percent of return for less interaction.
@patrykk634 жыл бұрын

@tamura77Rust4 жыл бұрын
you always want 4g 2Y because even if you want less interaction and go for say 6Y. The time it takes to clone is really long, as opposed to only 11mins.
@jacobwilliamson36834 жыл бұрын
Is crossbreeding important if I have a hemp clone that is all green 4ys and 1g and 1h? Also This hemp clone yields 60 cloth on vanilla, is this the best yield you can get or would crossbreading produce more of a yield?
@tamura77Rust4 жыл бұрын
you can cross breed to make it produce that 60 cloth faster. Technically 6Y should produce more yield but it takes too long to grow.

do not forget the fact that you need to have inventory space for all these pickles - with about a 100 scrap your inventory is completely loaded with pickles! this turns the composter version into a logistical nightmare. i wonder if it is more viable to buy canned food and compost it, i need to find out. the fish farm is annoying as hell, the maintenance makes it a slavery program or just basically a grind of its own. if they would get an HP buff to last longer, it would not be such a pain in the ass. this basically leaves the horse & hemp farm as the most convenient option. horses lack scalability and the growing farm requires BPs and much more effort. it seems to me that with all their advantages noone of them is OP because of its drawbacks. the question is, which one is the most viable for different play styles.
@tamura77Rust4 жыл бұрын
Some people can get stacks of 60 for the pickles, but for others it doesn't work. If that's the case then yeah stay away from it. For the fish farms, yes its a lot of maintenance, but if you set it up right you can get more scrap per hour than running the road or doing monuments. As for the hemp farm.. you can make it more manually intensive and then you don't really need any BP's (because you can buy everything you don't have). Yes they all have drawbacks but the amount of scrap you can yield with them is ridiculous. If you put in the time and effort to learning how to effectively use the hemp farm.. the results are insane. The fish farm is easy to setup and for what you put into it, you get a lot out. If you don't believe that they're "OP" you should checkout some of the screenshots people are posting in my discord and on reddit. Making close to a box of scrap on vanilla in a few days seems quite "OP" to me...
