Today we created a chick feeder from pallet wood. This feeder came out so good and should work good too! This was a fun build and saved us money so it's a win win. We hope this "Inspire to" video gives you some great ideas. Thanks for joining us on this beautiful day Out in the Country.
Please leave a comment, thumbs up the video, and don't forget to subscribe if you enjoy our videos! Thank you!

I love these types of videos. I’d really like to see more of these. Your videos always seriously inspire me to get up off my butt and do something. I prefer these videos to the usual ‘how to’ videos on KZbin as they encourage you to be more creative and are more fun to watch. Thank you again the feeder looks great 👍🏻

Thanks. We really prefer to do "inspire to" instead of "how to" videos. Our ideas aren't the only way or even the best way to do something. Instead of just copying the same design over and over, we encourage people to be creative and even improve a design to fit their own needs. Or they can just build it the same way and that's okay too! We hope that each video we share inspires or encourages someone in some way.

You're talents are extraordinary. It's a joy to watch you guys and see what you're going to do next. I love that you take things that people would throw out and you make useful things out of them. I never throw out anything I can turn into something useful for my house. I see it as such a waste that people throw away things that can be recycled. You've come so far. keep up the great work! ❤

Not trying to be a smarty pants. I'm an old gal who grew up farming and ranching and raising 5 kids and lots of animals. I really enjoy watching your channel. It brings back old memories a good times when my husband and I started out. The difference being my husband and I both were raised farming and ranching and we raised our children the same way. Love you both and your family.

The first man-made water troves for cattle and livestock were made out of wood. If you live in Texas you can still see plenty of them. Some still in use and some (the ones that start leaking) end up planted with flowers in rich peoples front yards. :) Love the "bird" feeder idea.

Yes just like shayne Lowther said build some to sell. Could do the same on larger scale for dog feeders. Selling a few would easily pay for chicken feed. As usual another great vlog! 👍👍

Great video, again! Always enjoy them very much! Only had some a few chickens years ago! I have no knowledge of raising farm animals! I was just busy taking care of my brood of kids. But of course our oldest daughter brought home every stray cat she could find. We did have a few rabbits for pets, a guinea pig, hamsters, multiple dogs, jars of spiders...those stayed outside, lizards, a parrot, and probably a few others I don’t remember! All in a residential area...close to the country...on a small lot. But it was always interesting what she would come home with! She was My Ellie Mae...from the Beverley Hillbillies! All her critters! Lol 😂 if you know the old TV show back in the Stone Age! Lol 😝 Blessings and Smiles to all of you! 💐💐👍

Great job.... we made all our own chicken and duck hen houses and runs and everything in them like nesting boxes and chicken roosts and duck feeders. That way we wouldn't be stuck buying something that did not work for us and we like the thought of customizing things the way we need it or want it. We even put electric in both of them for the chicken door and duck door...they run on timers.

Love your chick feeder!!! I have those round ones and they don't hold much and the chicks scratch lots of it out. The one you made would definitely work better for me in my brooder. I made my brooder the way Al from Lumnah Acres made his and I love it! I was able to set it up in no time after the wood was cut, and it works perfectly! If I had the ability to get some pallets I'd make some chick feeders using your design! TFS!

You can also look for some cheap wood from the store or maybe find an old piece of furniture that you can scavenge some wood from (though real wood furniture is getting rarer these days). I'm looking forward to trying our feeder out and seeing how well in does or if I need to make any improvements. I checked out Al's brooder design and it's a very interesting concept. I like that it can be assembled and disassembled easily.

Off topic of video. But I think you should address your water flow problems on property. French drains are needed in yard to move water around barn. In the nature area you need to dig a basin for water collection. It would make a nice pond to enjoy. Just some thoughts :-)
@diyfferent

Sure, a double sided one would be great for more chicks. I suppose I would just create the same opening as the front on both sides.

Also, they can not scratch feed out of it which can be pretty sloppy. I do think you could sell a few out by the road. Maybe market for birds or chicks. I think it would be neat to use some watered down latex paint on the outside, maybe even a little stencil in the corners. I've seen something vintage like that somewhere. Nothing wrong with the old ways :)

Doug! You are a gifted carpender! You have a vision and you build! Love watching. A great little project for bella would be for her to draw, then paint a few chicks, birds or flowers on there would be cute and seal with a bit of laquer. Do you watch Doug and Stacey? They are homesteaders that had money though starting their homestead! He said you can take a hobby and sell for extra money. I am sure you can sell many of those. You could probobly go the extra mile by lightly sanding, taking leftover stain and lacquer to it would look nice. Rustic is good though😄

welcome to the pallet bug. you need to reuse the nails then it becomes 100% recycled. put some on the front of your property with a for sale sign for $20 dollars each and make some larger ones which you can sell for $30-$50 dollars each. have a go at making some rustic outdoor furniture i.e 4 chairs and a table so you can sit back and enjoy all your hard work. i have a friend here in the UK that makes outdoor furniture and sells 4 chairs and a table for £300-£400 pounds,not bad for stuff that is free and would go into landfill sites and people love this look and will pay good money for up-cycled products. What you did not have a Dewalt tape measure what is going on??????. best wishes Shayne & Kaz
