This is a quick video of how to age corrugated very fast. By applying meratic acid and then hydrogen peroxide to a clean sheet of metal, you will get a very old looking piece.

What strength/percent Acid and Peroxide? Both are sold with different strengths and it’s important to get the right stuff!

The KEY to success is the STRENGTH of the ACID. Leslie's pool supply advertised "twice the acid strength of others". And that is exactly what I found. Muriatic Acid from Homedepot did not do the job, but I had instant success with Leslies Acid. I your not getting a quick response, find another stronger acid. Use all safety precautions.

Where do you get Leslies Acid

I have the same question where do you get Leslies Acid ?
@JauntAbout3 жыл бұрын
Of course Leslie's is a pool supply store with stores in Southern California. So, possibly similar venues in other areas may have stronger acid. You may need to look around for stronger acid.

Can we use muriatic acid to remove rust from galvanised metal roof sheets?
@cameron82532 жыл бұрын
i used 35% muriatic acid. i wasnt thrilled with the result. maybe another application. i also resorted to pouring the acid on the sheets instead of spraying. the disposable sprayer i got fro this job was crap.

I understand if you are eating a peanut butter sandwich, and drinking a cup of coffee while spraying acid, you can get a better result on the rust look? Yet, last year i i was drinking some sweet tea and a BLT sandwich while rusting metal with no mask, and the results were weak. Hope this helps?

Did you rinse with water between acid and peroxide? Do you intend to seal or clear coat to inhibit further rusting?
@MikeHelms614 жыл бұрын
Mark Mac I’ve tried rinsing and not rinsing between the acid and peroxide. Not rinsing gives a much better and quicker effect.

What do you seal it with to stop the rusting process? Would you rinse it with water before installing in your home?

I have been doing exactly what you do in video, and I am not getting the same result, not even a little rust has formed, what could I be doing different to get results fast like you are? Is it the metal or brand of peroxide or acid i can change i cant figure it out 😊

this just blows my mind that you would want to acid etch the metal and reduce the oxidative protective shield weakening it :(

Dude... It's done for Movie Sets. It's an example of "ageing," just one of the many Skills used by Film Crew Scenic Artists who can do things like paint a Plywood Box so it looks like a 300 year-old Pirate's Treasure Chest.
@featheredcoyote54772 жыл бұрын
It's for aesthetic purposes. Some like myself use this for indoor purposes as well. Such as wall coverings to the interior of a barn and you want that rustic look without having to search for a year to find old barn tin.
