Love what you're doing here -- never thought of just leaving the pieces OUT in the air!! I've just done some rusty-dyeing this week--using only salt & vinegar water and LOTS of rust pieces, so my fabrics came out very very rusty orange (which I love). Also I wanted to suggest that you do your soak in water with BAKING POWDER dissolved in it --this neutralizes the acidity of the vinegar/salt in the fabrics and will allow the fabrics to not continue to decompose. Also it will make whatever you make be more neutral in Ph too, for longer-lasting ART!! Thanks!

Hi Sally...thank you so much for the tip on using baking soda first. I will absolutely do that for my next batch 😊 This is the first time I've left my stuff outside as I usually keep it in the garage for a day or so. This was the longest I've done and I really like how it turned out. Thank you again for the suggestion and for watching 😊💜

This is FABULOUS!!! All I do in my mixed media is try to create rust, age, old walls and doors. This is right up my alley and I’m rusting fabric and paper as we speak. Thank you sooo much for the inspiration.

Have you ever tried rusting a boring concrete driveway ? If you cut out leaf shapes and place them on the driveway . .......... It takes a while but it looks amazing .

So cool. I have been to some junk shops and looking for rusted stuff, but did not find any. So I have to make my own, will do a lid to a can, and some nails or screws. I'm not sure what it is about the rusted fabric but I also just really like it! And Yes, I also "loose my words" at times. It is good when I find them though! ha ha ha! I have rusted with half vinegar half water, but now I will use the salt, and hydrogen peroxide.

I don’t know how you’ve been on KZbin for almost a decade without me coming across you sooner! I’ve just spent the better part of my day watching your channel. I do a lot of mixed media, and have recently started playing with rust. I loved your foraging videos! Wish I could join you on one 😁 I noticed that you do destashes. Do you do rusty things destashes?? If so, please sign me up!

Love love love!! That piece you said was your favorite was amazing and the piece with the long straight piece of rust…phenomenal. Can’t wait to see what happens after soaking. I wonder how baking soda water would work on those pieces.

Can you rust dye non natural clothing? Polyester nylon spandex etc? If so how do you fix it? Still with heat like an iron?

Just love how you did this. I am getting ready to do my first attempt at rusting fabric for my grungy journals. Not sure about any measurements you used. Do you just go for it and not worry about measuring anything like the salt, peroxide and vinegar. Also what is the minimum amount of time you should let these items stay wrapped up? I am so excited to try this.
