Hi, I'm Jeri from Recycled Parts 4 Art... Welcome to "Learn at The Little House" where I'll be teaching/sharing/showing you how to do things using recycled bits and bobs that most people would toss!
Today's Video is me playing around with some cotton fabric and rusty stuff I found around the house. The results made my heart sing! I plan on using it in an Altered book when I finally can get back to that! Enjoy!

Ohhhh Jeri... I lovvvve rusty bits. I have drawers full of them all sorted into little baggies lol. Love your fabric and all bits and pieces. So glad you took some time away from moving and sorting; and thete is no better way to relax than play with rusty bits!! 😊😊😄

Jeri, sweet girl! It is so good to hear your voice and see your beautiful face again. I have missed you. I so want to try the rusted fabric, but I'm short on rust...I do have an old griddle that has been holding plants on my balcony that's quite rusty, and I may try using it. I have made rusty water with my used up Brillo pads...after the soap is gone, I let it sit for a day or two and then throw it in a jar of water. It works great, and does anyone use steel wool pads any more?????

I don't use my rusted fabric for clothing, so I can't answer this. Sorry. I make books.

Loved this video, wish your shadow hadn't obscured our view so much. Loved the little distinctive cogwheel that came out so many times. Did the blue survive at all? Have you tried one in just the verdigris? Perhaps some sort of fixative might help retain the colour - you know like dyers use mordants? I just wondered. I have this seahorse I made (very thin metal though, so might have to make a thicker one) from copper foil - I wondered if verdigrising that might give an impression on cloth?

Hi Fran! I don't usually film outside, sorry for the shadows. If I do outside stuff again, I'll try to watch out for that. It was a spur of the moment play/experiment time for me. I loved the cogwheel shape too! No, the blue did not survive when I rinsed it out. In fact, the rust water just turned the cotton sorta tanish/orange which I'm ok with. I'm always open when I'm experimenting and happy for whatever I wind up with! I bet a mordant would do something, that might be down the line for a future experiment... I love to play! You should TRY the copper foil and do let me know what happens! Thanks for watching!
