When I was a wee tyke in the early 1960's, my father was in charge of the annual toy drive for the VFW. Every December there would be a large box in the garage filled with toys (we couldn't keep them, but for a brief time I could play with them). I remember playing with a toy garbage truck, just like this one.

I was raised in Freeport, Illinois (home of Structo) They made bbq grills for the summer and toys for the winter. My Dad worked there in the 60’s and I would go there and watch both the grills and toys being made…great memories..

The truck reminds me of an old cigarette rolling machine. Nice job on it. A kid could get in a good day's work with that thing. Needs a couple of metal trash cans to go with it. 👍

These are just two tips that help me. One when prying something off with pliers like you did with the steering wheel will you grip it you can lightly tap the back of the pliers with a hammer so that way you don't damage the surrounding metal. Also when drilling out rivets use a cone tip Stone so it can sit in the rivet while drill it out you will not damage the surrounding metal.

Cool restoration, you should've made the trash thing into a camper, just take the top door off & make a sky light in it & pput it back on & solder it down & the back piece just put a piece of clear plastic on the back after you cut a hole in it for the glass & just put a small handle on it & lift it up for the custom door & cut holes in the sides for the glass, then you would have a custom made camper, but I like the paint job on the cab,is that black, dark blue or dark purple &should've painted the seat black because the yellow clashes with the color of the cab
