I restore old 1907 antique candle wick scissors. This rusty restoration goes back to the early turn of the 20th century when they would cut candle wicks to turn out the lights. Enjoy this antique restoration and bring back a broken tool to its former glory.

i love how they very calmly ask you to subscribe. no annoying screen blocking sub buttions. just a piece of paper off to the side. no annoying sounds. just the satisfying sounds of their work. thanks fir the video!

Candle wick scissors were not used to snuff out the candle; much more efficient methods like using a snuffer or even blowing it out were used instead. Candle wick scissors were used to trim the length of the candle wick for more efficient burning. Candles were expensive back in the day and a long wick used more wax and reduced the life of the candle.

I believe it was a bit more than the wick using extra wax. Rather, with a wick that doesn't curl, the way modern wicks are woven to do, you end up with a stack of carbonized wick that can't get fuel, which interferes with the flame, dimming it. After all, a wick's primary purpose isn't to itself burn, but to transport fuel to the flame that you intended to get. So in brief, the reason to trim your wicks is to maintain better light. Trivia: "Trimming someone's wick" was a historical expression roughly equivalent to "cut them down to size". It's archaic now, and more's the pity.

I love the content, but that table gives me anxiety. Every time a little piece goes flying, I'm about ready to overnight mail some grout or caulking just so you can fill the gaps. 😵‍💫

I did not like the split rivet. To make a good connection, you need a hollow tool to set the two parts. Next a tool with a concave opening to properly form the rivet head.

Very interesting restoration. I like your sanding plates (not sure what they are called) with the various sized holes. I've never seen those before. Great content
