My favorite sound ever is a Tele and a Vox together. It is absolutely glorious. There's just such a "smoothness" or something to a Vox that that I don't feel like the Fender amps have but I still love the Fenders also.

The super reverb is my favourite all time amp. I owned and used Silver face version for about 10 years. It got a bit heavy to lug and I traded for 68 Deluxe reverb. Both great amps
@patrickfoster4586
@patrickfoster4586 2 жыл бұрын
For recording purposes the Deluxe is probably even better- but there's no substitution for 50 watts of all tube Fender power into those JBL 4x10's!!! The Super Reverb is basically a 50w Marshall half stack stuffed into a combo package! I LOVE mine!! (I've got a Vibrolux too for when more reasonable volume levels are called for...)

Friend of mine bought this amp from Matthew. He didn’t mention the footswitch in the Reverb ad and then it turned out he “sold it to pay for shipping”. The amp arrived with issues, all four speakers needed reconing, and the chassis had to be sent to Uncle Doug for repair because the tech Matthew had work on it did a hack job and the tremolo didn’t work. He got it back from Uncle Doug and it sounds amazing now.

quite the gem you found! Keep fixing the broken parts until you are totally happy with the sounds. It's got to be an investment. You and I never experienced the mid-60's , but you have a taste of what it was really like in that piece of history. Add a '59 Strat or an early sixties "anything" and you have 1000's of hours of delight under your fingers.

This one sounds a lot more raspy and bold - it’s got a lot of tonal character on top of the notes like it’s seasoned. It’s definitely amazing - you can’t replicate it in a new build - one of a kind tone. Killer find and glad you got it running!

Beautiful example of this amp! I have inherited my uncle's, from production run #7 as per the sticker inside the cab. it's such a phenomenal amplifier. Funny story: he knows I've played guitar since I was 10, and after 18 years of playing he brings me into the basement because "your aunt is making me get rid of a bunch of stuff. You can have my old accordion speaker if you want it, but I don't know if it'll work for a guitar". He goes into a corner and wheels out a huge box shrouded in a fitted tolex cover. I see a little silver Fender logo glisten in the corner. I look closer and under Fender it says Super Reverb. I pull off the cover, and underneath is an absolutely pristine, mint condition Super Reverb. He's got a bag in the back with a full set of NOS RCA replacement tubes, the original footswitch is still connected... and if I hadn't taken it: "If you don't take it I'm either dropping it off for the church or bringing it to Goodwill, I don't know if you want something so big and heavy". I was like "I can manage it, Uncle, thank you!". And now I am a happy guy.

Following up after finishing the video - My thoughts on your tone? Phenomenal. I switched out to a 3-prong cord and did a thorough cleaning, or what little was necessary at least, and can't speak highly enough of it. The tremolo is also SOOOO good on this amp.

It's always amazing what people have sitting out in their barn. Appears that barn dust must be a decent preservative for both amps and forgotten cool cars. I'm surprised all the tubes and capacitors survived the decades. Your Super sounds great.

Found an original 1974 Silverface Super Reverb with Master Volume in a pawnshop with original Fender Alnico speakers (like yours) and the original RCA tubes including the hard to find 7025's. Replaced reverb pan and replaced needed capacitors and resoldered necessary points. A 1978 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe with the mini-humbuckers gives an incredible clean tone with this amp; the Les Paul with the mini-humbuckers I believe is underrated. This amp brings my Gibson to life! My friends, Gibson and Fender can work well together. 😁🎸

I had quite a few mid-60s Fender amps ... bought when they were new or only slightly used. I'm a big fan of that era of Fender amps. I didn't care much for the old tweed amps. I needed a lot of punch for the big clubs I was playing. I wound up using a Twin Reverb for my workhorse Fender. I had a 130 watt Orange driving Altec speakers. Couldn't go through the PA, but that rig really cut through the big hall and 1,000 or more people.

Hold off on reconing that speaker until you 1) check that it's not the dust cap that's rattling 2) if not item 1, remove the dust cap and turn the speaker upside down and shake it to see if you can get what's rattling to fall out- often it's just piece of debris. Don't know about those particular speakers, but for Celestions the tone is in the cone and reconing kills them. Easiest way to remove the dust cap is to get an 90 degree angled scribe and repeatedly heat it, working it around to soften the glue and pry the cap away. To reglue the cap, Weldwood contact cement is nearly identical to the glue they used. It also can be a piece of debris inside the cavity where the spider is and you can use the same method to pry up just a 2 inch section, use something to wedge it open, and see if you can shake the debris out, then reglue.
