Rusty Briggs And Stratton Engine Restoration

In this video, I restored a rusty 3.5 horsepower Briggs and Stratton motor that was in need of rebuilding. This motor is a flathead 1 cylinder due to the valves being located on the block. I first took the motor apart, then cleaned the parts. Afterwards the parts were sandblasted and ones that couldn't be used were discarded. Some of the new parts included, gaskets, filter, spark plug, pull string and much more. The motor was painted silver with black accents and the magneto cover was finished in a midnight blue metallic. After assembly the motor ran great and the compression was very good. It was not an easy project to make but the experience was definitely worth it. This engine might be used for a future project but right now it's still a mystery.

Looks like it came off a small push mower, due to it being a vertical shaft design. Nice restoration. That must be a newer Briggs engine because of the plastic(?) carb and looks like a nylon camshaft?

very nice job. nice color too. metalic blue? i might try that color. tried the metalic green... didnt work out too well, wasnt impressed with it. but it is just a mower engine that i will prolly sell to someone that will run it out of oil and kill it.

When I ordered the new parts the boxes had the logo on them. I cut it out and stuck it on with strong double sided tape. I couldn’t find any online.

I used engine degreaser that you can find in your local auto parts store.
