I buy old things like this and think what can I do to make them better while bringing them back. Right off the bat I was thinking about how I would rebuild the screw mechanism and weld up where the original forge left voids etc. Ultimately I miss what you were able to do here. Replace what was lost, repair what was broken, breath life back into what had become useless and make it useful again. It’s not new but it’s changed. It’s honored. Years will go by and it will continue to serve its purpose with dignity. Not many people see life in items like you do. Thanks for conveying this in a way that many people can understand and relate to. Keep it up Brett.

If you deconstruct the whole thing, the screw box and threaded rod should tell you a lot. Before pipe was mass produced, they had to roll and braise the box. The jaws were also forge welded and a lot of old school construction showed up with the acid etch
