I’d preserve the inside as well as the outside...just my preference. In the engine bay, put rust converter on the left side, replace new metal on the right side and preserve all the original paint you can. Only my preference and I think your plan will provide a great contrast. My advice CT is to do it the way you want to!!!

hi CT! the first part of the video more than a restoration it looks like an archaeological excavation :-)) .... good job brò diesel works wonders.I had cleaned the gearbox of my beetle with caustic soda, it also eliminates the smallest grease and dirt stain, but it is much more dangerous than diesel. wear protective glasses and a protective mask to avoid breathing the vapors. other parts I cleaned them with diesel . it is impressive how once the dirt and grease have been removed, the original paint of the frame that holds the engine-gearbox resurfaces and is still in good condition. evidently they used excellent materials. keep it up, the bus is reborn from video to video!

CT reference for later. When you replace the heater cables, spray WD40 in the channel. Do it till it runs out the other end. Use them once in awhile. This keeps the cable from rusting fast to the inside. Same for eccelerator cable.

Looking good CT. I've seen the pressure washer sandblasting done before and works great. If it was me I'd sand blast all of Rusty. Cut out rusted through areas. Replace larger sheet metal areas like you did up front and for smaller hole thin areas cut some metal patches and weld them in. Grind if on exterior smooth and put on stop rust stuff till your ready to spray on some epoxy primer. Have you watched Duck man's videos? Does awesome work welding

I've used the pressure washer and sand on my project. It works but is very messy, the sand goes everywhere and make sure you use a full face shield. Water tends to get in the sand hose and stops it up. It will work best outside in an open area.

Mmmm, there is some nice progress.. =) One advice - when you use pressure washer around guide tubes for cables, give them after washing a quick compressed air shot, so the water doesn't remain inside causing more rust and maybe even future damage of the cables. For media blasting you should use some dustless abrasive like the so calles "black beauty" os something similar, quartz sand is a bit obsolete and unhealthy if not wearing right protection. The best protection when blasting is the vest with pressurized helmet, something you might consider seriously. =) Other than that nice work and try to minimize the wrench-slip finger-ouches.. =( Those suck big time. Keep on! =)

I can see that it is more difficult while holding the camera. I remember seeing these buses and beetles when they were new. They looked so tidy and neat. Great job. I would save all the hard brake lines. I hope you labeled them. (edit) I heard your burgler alarm go off at 37:52. Have you thought about getting a couple of big drip pans to help with the over spray. You could use them later under the bus
@CTmoog4 жыл бұрын
Some drip pans would be perfect. Where can you buy the big ones? I haven/t seen any around here.
@ivorwm22914 жыл бұрын
@@CTmoog I'm referring to the sheet metal flat pans for catching drips that you leave on the garage floor. As far as low tubs to catch the "nasty runoff", I would look at the low plastic containers that are designed for under bed storage. I've got one that's 4 feet long that is full of hand knitted sweaters. It's about 5 or 6 inches deep and 2 1/2 feet wide. Check at The Container Store ..edit) I looked at the container store for "underbed box" The price was around $25, which I think is a little high, however you store parts in it when it isn't used as a drip catcher
@muhammadtaimoor78914 жыл бұрын
The video was good but i thin you should use metal brush instead of sand pressure cleaning....metal brush wil take a bit hard work but it will clean it up real nice and it will also smoothen the rough surface...as the metal is very very old the sand pressure cleaning wil damage it
