This is GOLD for anyone looking for an animation job! As an animator who's also sat in on demo reel sessions for new hires, I've seen so far too many demo reels with just upper body acting exercises. We passed over those 99% of the time because all it showed was that they were good at copying video references, but it didn't demonstrate they had any actual knowledge of body mechanics.
@RustyAnimator5 ай бұрын
Thank you kindly! And thats a huge insight to share for everyone.

Even today I see this video and I appreciate its approach so much. It treats the viewer like an intern that needs to be onboarded as fast as possible to start contributing to the actual production. As an engineer, we need new engineers to be brought up to speed asap and I strive to help them as that inevitably helps me. 2 weeks is a great time to have a task assigned and completed. Thank you!

This is exactly what I figured out few weeks ago to improve my lacking body mechanics skills. And OMG it took 15 months(after 5 classes) to finally recognize my problem. Body mechanics is so complex as you said, and I got stuck after doing two acting shots with my low skills. I never did small exercises on my own, just did long animation shots and I felt there's wall that I had to break through. I'm taking a break for exactly 3 months to advance my skill set on my own. Thank you so much for the video! It gave me such a lot of motivation during my break!

@SmithRamone1 Жыл бұрын
@@bobhill9845 It did for sure! I work as a 3D Animator now. I focused on what Rusty suggests in the video and that improved my body mechanics by a lot. However, what really skyrocketed my animation knowledge was taking his mentorship. It was overwhelming at first but I learned a ton from him and the other students. If you're interested in learning animation I definitely recommend having him as a mentor. His classes are catered towards your needs and animation goals contrary to most animation programs that have a rigid curriculum. Once I'm not that busy at work I plan to go back

I know It feels weird n that's why I wanna try something challenging for me, I wanna move on more harder things to animate, your video gave me the motivation n helped me a lot. even tho It's old, It's still helpful ofc. Appreciate your work n your explanations are so good. Now I'll try animating standing up from the chair, It wont take me more than 2 days I know. If I rush, It'll take me 5 hours max, but I prefer taking breaks to make the animation perfect. I know the principles n I'm currently starting "again" for these characters. It's easier for me to learn em, but It got 100 times easier by your video. Thanks man, appreciate It 🙏

Thank you so much Rusty! You are very helpfull in your advice. Can I ask you 2 questions?: -Do you think being slow to animate could be a big issue when you start in studios. I know by experience that some production require 7,8 seconds by day. It could be hard rythm for beginners. -Age could be an impact for being recruted? Thanks again! Keep going
@RustyAnimator Жыл бұрын
-speed varies based on studio and projects. Overall your concern as a student should be quality. Learn to animate at the highest level you can. That will land you a solid job. And the job will then teach you speed. Even if you're slow at first, studios wont be likely to fire you for that. They'll assume newbies need time to adapt. They would be far more likely to fire you if you cant animate at their projects quality. If you really dont know what your doing. -Age is irrelevant. Ive worked with and taught students of all ages young and old. It all comes down to your skill and if you're a good person to work with.
