It wasn't just the money they were spending, KD and Kyrie were demanding the Nets make objectively bad trades and signings so they could get their buddies on the team which has resulted in the Nets being a much worse basketball team than they could have been. My problem about player empowerment is that the movement only empower superstars, who don't really need that empowerment. When players get traded, they have to move their family and learn to settle in a new city. If a player is constantly moved around, it is bad for their mental health and stress level. Now we celebrate all these superstars moving around as if those moves can make the lives of average role players better. The fact is that when a star request a trade, role players got moved around like pawns. Superstars like Harden and Durant makes a ton more than an average NBA player, and moving from one city to another is not as much of a burden for them.
