It’s so interesting to me that we do so many things the same way. My father was born in 1902 and he taught me to cook. He was a wonderful cook who always wanted his own restaurant. But we were poor. So I learned the ‘old’ ways. Probably a lot like your grandma taught you. I dry my noodles on hangers just like you do! He taught me to cook everything from scratch. I do buy flour, butter, milk and eggs because I have to but we hunt and fish and I have two large gardens to tend so I am able to put up as much food for my husband and I as I can. All my adult kids want my recipes but I have to tell them they aren’t written down. I should have insisted they learn, like you, but I didn’t. You are incredible to handle all that you do. I really enjoy listening to you and learning more about you and your family and of course, food! Thank you so much for making these great videos! PS- I hate wearing shoes outside and I loved seeing the bunny in your kitchen! My sister had a bunny in the house when we were kids :)

Write those recipes down now! They will be useful to your future generations. Use words like “give or take” if you need to. I have no children and I’m old now. This girl is so fun to watch. She is what I wanted to be in my youth. Sigh. But God has been good to me. I am inspired to get off the couch and keep trying to homestead in my own small way.

Yes, I am old as well solosaloon1959 and I have made up a couple family cook books for all the kids. I’ve taught young women (not family) how to bake bread, how to can, how to quilt, I even taught a young woman how to bake a chicken. Her mother didn’t cook and so she never learned and was afraid to try. One time we had friends over and the husband was dumbfounded that I knew how to cut up a chicken. I still wash out every soup jar with water to get the last bits out. That’s why this KZbin channel is so important. To think someone called her ‘uneducated’ got it all wrong. She is a teacher. The most treasured of people.

My maternal grandma and I cooked and baked together. She taught me many Norwegian and Swedish recipes. Also making homemade noodles with my mom. I canned with my fraternal grandmother who was German and French Canadian. They are long gone and I miss them dearly. I am eternally grateful for all they taught me and the memories we created together! 💯❣️

I passed along your video to my best friend. My favorite part of all of your homemade recipes is that you have a base core of something, then you wing it. Perfect. We trust your families opinion and they love your soups, breads and everything else. Being a prior Mennonite, you bring your knowledge to the viewer and we trust your old, tried and true methods. Thank you for all you do, Ruth Ann.

My parents grew up in a mennonite community here in Canada. Our chicken noodle soup is quite different. The broth is simmered with star anise, pepper corns and bay leaf and that is it, no veggies. And then our noodles were always hand cut after rolling the dough up jelly roll fashion. We covered the rolled out dough with flour to prevent sticking before rolling and cutting, and then shook out the flour with a sieve. Big job but I still do it and love it. Thanks for sharing your version!

My mama made her noodles straight on the counter making a well in the flour and adding eggs in the well. She always rolled hers out and cut with a knife. To dry she laid the noodles on a brown paper sack with extra flour so our chicken and noodles was thickened by that. So delicious. Thanks for reminding me how to make noodles as I haven’t done it from scratch in many years. I’m going back to making from scratch.

Now that I am retired I have more time to cook from scratch. I'm so blessed to have my husband retired as well. We sure do get a bigger bounty in our garden with his help!. 2 of 15 grandchildren live with us, so I have extra hands to help me weed or get eggs while I gathering vegetables. My family prefers to wait until now, after the weather has cooled, to eat soups. We hail from Scotland. Eastern European mainly. I love cooking comfort foods on Fridays. Specifically, Fridays since the kiddos have most of theìr test at school on that day. What a wonderful way to start our weekends! I really believe it matters to "sprinkle" God's loves into your meals. I pray as I cook. It calms me, and the rest of my family, as they eat and enjoy the Lord's blessings. God bless you all in your endeavors. ~Robin

My family’s comfort was called ‘Chicken and Tootles’. The name is derived from the name of a family friend who first served us chicken and noodles after a family tragedy. It’s stewed chicken with homemade noodles. Day 1 it was served with generous pieces of chicken, mashed potatoes, and a veg side. Subsequent days it became chicken soup with veggies added to the broth and the chicken cut up. When the kids were little and their father was traveling for work, I would make it the night before he left and serve it for several days after. (They were too young to care and it gave me extra time for inevitable projects.) Years later, it was the only food requested by my daughter when I visited her at college a few hours away. My noodles are made a bit differently but homemade is homemade and just remembering it brings comfort. Thank you for sharing your version.

This is my favorite video of yours that I've seen. It does more of a beginning-to-end that many other videos don't. I've spent the day with you when getting up throughout the night so that comes through, for me, in this one. I've been wanting to do homemade noodles and this really hits the spot. I crave doing this and have been wanting to, for years❗️also this video, two years old, does show a tad more of your five youngest children than the newer ones. When I see your family photo, it's a surprise for me to try to identify Hadessa, or know anything about your third youngest's personality. I love getting to know you all and hope to have a wonderful time perusing older videos that will probably capture the two oldest daughters and eldest son.

I make mine very similar to yours too, YUMMY! Thank you, I so enjoy watching. The fields and animals remind me of home. One of my favorite soups! We add corn to leftover chili, some cumin & ranch seasoning and turn it into taco soup.

Ruth, My mother used to make pasta (noodles) and hang the noodles around coat hangers, and when us four kids would come home from school and grab the noodles off the hangers . You are a great cook and homestead mom! Love your show!❤ Brenda Taylor Glenwood Springs, Colorado . Thank you, for your generosity and recipes.

I love making homemade noodles but I haven’t in a very long time. I think with the cooler weather starting I will take the opportunity to do just that! I usually make homemade chicken and noodles (a thicker stoup type) and serve them over mashed potatoes with a side of corn! it’s delicious and I can’t wait to make it now! Thank you for the inspiration! Love your channel! 😊

Your soup looks wonderful. I am 75 and we had an aluminum pitcher like the one the boys used to fill the supper glasses.

My mom and my grandmother Gerhard taught me similar as how you do it. I only cook from scratch, and seldom use recipes or cookbooks. I did relearn to make pasta again…thank you💕

Loved seeing all the chores in between and all the fresh vegetables from your garden! The beautiful flowers! Chicken noodle soup with homemade noodles, has to be the most delicious soup ever! I am now going to make some of my own fresh noodles! You made it look so easy!

I love chicken noodle soup and homemade noodles. I've never made my noodles exclusively with egg yolks, but the color is lovely!! I will give your version a try. Thanks for sharing your recipe and family with us!!

There's nothing like learning right alongside our grandmother. It's always my goal as well to teach people in a way that my Mamaw taught me.

I love the fresh pasta. I don't normally make it unless I'm making what my grandma called rolled dumplings. It's the same recipe as you used but we don't roll them as thing and I add a bit of baking powder and when we drop the pieces (about 1-2" long) into the boiling broth, they kind of puff up. I just found your channel a few days ago. I love it. We live in Missouri and your ways of doing things are pretty much the way I grew up. Although we don't have animals right now, I do love my big garden. Please keep up the great content! I'll be watching more and telling others! ❤

Great videos...just discovered your wonderful channel. The only thing I don't appreciate is that relentless music. The human voice is music in itself and you have a nice voice. Please ....a little bit of irritating mosquito music goes a long way. Ambient sound to me is much more calming. The sounds of nature ....or kids voices in the background make me feel like I am visiting . I love the cameos of the children showing up here and there. . Your editing is great too as well as your pleasant personality. I will be watching other videos. Loved the comfry video. Thank you. I am on the other side of the country and have had a garden in a local community garden for 5 or so years and learn a lot from others. My parents and grandparents also had gardens. Thanks again. The noodles look fantastic. I love the way you cook....and teach as if we are "standing at grandma's elbow". Sweet! Thanks again.
