I was lucky enough to be invited to my Amish friends quilting (I just visited with the ladies while they quilted). The younger girls don't enjoy quilting, so they were put to work making noodles. They used 96 egg yolks and I don't know how much flour, but their process was just like yours including the ironing of the dough - which was new to me. It was a wonderful, relaxing day filled with visiting and sharing of stories and I enjoyed it so much. My friend ended up with two and a half five gallon buckets of dried noodles and I came home with a full cookie sheet of noodles which I finished drying. Memories to treasure. Thanks so much for sharing!

I’ve made noodles before, but I never heard of ironing them! I grew up in a community with a lot of Holdemann Mennonite people, so I wonder if it’s part of their tradition. I don’t have a pasta machine, so I roll my noodles out by hand, and cut them with a large chef’s knife. I also use the same dough to make egg roll wrappers, and have even made fried hand pies with it! I enjoyed watching the boys’ antics, especially the flour facial hair! I love Hadassah’s name. I wish the book of Esther had been named Hadassah instead, since that was her real name! I hope your Hadassah is as courageous and steadfast as her namesake!

We use to own a layer farm and when we had lots of double yolked eggs my mom and 3 aunts would come over and we would make noodles. They would bring their wooden dryer racks to hang the noodles on. 🌷 My Mother’s homemade chicken noodle soup was the best I’ve ever had! The chicken tasted like chicken (not cardboard) and the noodles were amazing with just enough flour from the noodles to thicken the soup perfectly! Oh and the home-made hot bread fresh from my Grandmother’s oven - she cut off one end & slathered it with butter & honey for me… oh gosh… now I’m hungry & lonely!

Your videos are always a flippin’ Masterclass! I’m a grandma and clearly I’ve not paid attention to all the cool life skills out there. I’m actually a little grieved about it. But now I’m showing things to my grandkids and they think I’m so smart. I plageraize your homemaking hacks, RuthAnn. Shamelessly. 😂 I do see what you’re doing there, though. When those kids work alongside you, you can see right away what kind of dumb things someone (like me) might do at home so you can adjust your explanations and descriptions! Genius. 🥰 That whole spaghetti thing is fantastic. We tried it with ‘fresh’ noodles from a bougie market. ‘‘Twas a hit. I’m so clever. 😉
