I also love seeing Maddie in your videos. Our golden lived to be 14½, with 13½ very healthy years, and then everything seemingly hit at once. Hot spots which I had never even heard was a thing became a thing and meant she spent about half of her last year wearing the cone of shame. Then a diagnosis-by-elimination suspicion that she had lymphoma. Then to top it all off a Friday night seizure (except dog's don't get seizures) turned out to be vestibular disease which affects the balance system and Taffy couldn't walk at all then she couldn't walk without bumping into things. Then she just couldn't walk in a straight line. The last couple weeks when she basically stopped eating was the most heart wrenching. So please show your old girl lots of love, there can never be too many treats and ice cream cones at her age :)

It is so great that you guys brought your children up to not watch the TV, I watched so many hours of TV in my life that I once calculated that over a 30 years period I lost 6 years of time from my life. That was about 5 hours a day of sitting doing nothing but putting images into my brain. It has been a challenge to build new habits of side hustle, learning new things, helping others and being a giver, but it is really worth it.

The adventure continues! I realized in this episode that if Trish were gone for more than a few days, this whole operation would grind to a halt. She is amazing. When we did our NYC RV trip, we tried to get a spot in Liberty Harbor RV Park, just across the Hudson River in Jersey City, but they were full. We ended up staying at Croton Point Park, in Croton-On-Hudson, NY. There is a Metro North station adjacent to the park, where we took the train into Grand Central Station every day. It worked out very well. Got to love the AllStays RV & Camp app. We would have never found those places without it. Happy Camping

Marc and gang. I've been binge watching your videos like a crazy person... I think my family is afraid I'm going to pack up and just leave! I've never camped or been in an RV, but always wanted to. Your NYC episode gave me quite a chuckle as I work in the office building above Grand Central... I live in Jersey but have the (dis)pleasure of walking through times square and GCC every day. Based on how much I'm enjoying your videos, I thought I should at least take a moment to thank you and offer you kudos on the amazing production quality. I always thought that if I hit the Powerball, I'd get a mansion on a beach somewhere... but now I think I'm going for a fifth wheel! I'm sure its a ton of work editing these videos, so many thanks. I've only worked though part of season 1, so I have plenty to go. You have a beautiful family... I wish you all the best and safe travels!

Welcome! I returned the cable box a few years ago because I thought the content was just processed trash. That's not to say we still don't watch a series or three on NetFlix or iTunes... just didn't like the "noise" of TV. I do think watching more KZbin made this trip happen. Anyway, in this day in age, most kids watch what they want when they want on the device they want. So no rule... just adapting to the times.

Fair point. You'd be surprised how many places we had to contact to even find a place that would accomodate 5 + a dog in NYC during Sept (peak season). Well over a dozen and all said NO's except this place. Wasn't cheep either! But I don't think there was a one first floor option in the city. That's all businesses and stores. OK, telling one on me. Traveling north from Virginia to Orangetown NY, some how I made a wrong turn and ended up going straight into down town NY. Not a problem unless you just happen to be driving a 45' motor coach and pulling a 24' stacker trailer, not the best thing too drive in time square. I know people were looking at me and saying must be from out of town and what an idiot, and they were correct. Keep the rubber on the road.
@KeepYourDaydream8 жыл бұрын
A 69' rig in Times Square! Now I know why you way keep the rubber on the road! A few people have said I drive in some tight places... but I couldn't imaging NYC. There is SO MUCH traffic, it would be hard to make those turns... unless you just stayed on Broadway and turned right or left at the end. I guess that would work. Plenty of Semi trucks in the city, but they know which turns to make! Thanks for the comment.

Well... on our way out of NYC headed down to Larchmont Yacht Club we were so focused on directions we didn't notice the lack of semi-trucks around us. We were going about 55, looked-up and saw the sign over the brick bridge - 9.2' We're 10.4'.... before my brain could even register the catastrophe... we cleared it. Must have been the height on the sides. Got lucky that day.

Did something change with your video production? Change of frame rate? Enjoying them all!
@KeepYourDaydream8 жыл бұрын
I've been shooting at 1080 at 60fps all along. Sometimes I edit them to 24fps for slow motion in editing. Is it better or worst. Any feedback is welcome... :)
@RollinRagu8 жыл бұрын
First, I need to add that we watch many travel vlogs and yours is up at the top for entertainment! We love your family. I admire your filming and editing skills. We've had 3 long summer trips with our trailer and I've edited hundreds of hours down to about 10 hours of finished footage. It's become a hobby. As much as my family and friends enjoy our video, I don't have the artistic touch that you do. Are these skills developed in your profession? or, is it a talent developed through personal interest? I thought I might be picking up on the frame rate. About a third of this video has a "real", "crisp" look to it. Closer to what you might see in a live televised sporting event than a Hollywood movie. Improving my own skills is, at times, frustrating. Filming, Editing, Artistic decisions, being entertaining...it is hard to get the whole package to come together. Anyway, I'm long winded. Again, a huge thank you for all the effort you guys put into documenting your trip in a way that is fun for us to watch. The four of us watch together and can't wait for the next episode!
@KeepYourDaydream8 жыл бұрын
You're too kind. Means a lot - thanks. I've learned everything from watching other peoples videos and thinking - that's cool, how did they that? And then YouTubing it. There are some people out there like Devin Supertramp that make insane videos way above my head, but I'll get one idea and move a little closer. The more I study, the more I see what the pro's are doing. Far away shots for a split second and then a close up shot. Every shot panning, zooming, etc with fast cuts. The next time you watch a TV show, try to count to 7 seconds before the scene changes - or even 5. As I mentioned, I shoot everything in 1080 60 frames per second. This gives me the ability to slow-mo anything and 1080 is high enough resolution/clear for KZbin. My only other feedback is cut the footage in half and then half again. Keep in touch. Still learning and love talking about it! -Marc
@RollinRagu8 жыл бұрын
I will look up Devin Supertramp. All of your tips are appreciated and I will keep them in mind when editing. My videos have a different pacing than yours, but I wonder if it is partly due to who our audience is. Is your intention that these videos be your "family" home movies? Or, are these specifically made for the youtube market? I often think to myself while watching my own that no-one would want to watch these long clips. However, the 4 of us treasure every second of them. I try to find a balance there, but even the balance is not fast enough paced for the public to stay interested. For our 2014 trip, I've now done a whole set of revised editions. For instance, there is a 40 minute version of the Grand Canyon for us and a 25 minute version for showing friends. I surely can't do that all the time. I've got 100's of editing hours invested in the 2014 trip. I've been looking for someone that does what I'm trying to get better at, so that I can ask questions from time to time. I know you're busy enjoying your trip, but would you mind if I dropped you a question or thoughts from time to time? (Would you want me to here? or is there a better way to communicate?) Thanks Marc! If your trip takes you through Greenville, SC, let us know. We have a place you can park the trailer if you want to check out the area. Our home is 1 hour from the best section of the Blue Ridge Parkway (a must see). We also have an award winning downtown for small cities. Tony

What would that cost in NYC?
@KeepYourDaydream8 жыл бұрын
NYC is expensive. We found that staying in an apt is better because we can avoid eating out everyday. The metro was a lot x 5, but very affordable per person. You can look on VRBO, but there are places in almost every price range depending on where you want to be located. You can find places around $100 night depending on the season. Pretending to a local is a great way to do NYC!

do your kids do online school
@KeepYourDaydream8 жыл бұрын
Yes, all 3 are in school online. Works out great. They learn more at their own pace, but also learned how to hack the system for good grades. Pros and cons to everything.

Why don't you watch tv ?
@KeepYourDaydream8 жыл бұрын
We turned off the cable box about 5 years ago... and I'm convinced that's when we stopped getting sucked into the "commercialized American dream" and started thinking about our own adventure. We mostly watch KZbin and a few shows on Netflix, but turned off the drama. :) -Marc

Kate, my family can attest to the same thing! We don't have cable but do have Netflix and Hulu and a digital antenna and have had that for the last 3 years or so and it seems or lives have gotten better for it. We don't even watch Netflix or Hulu that often but we do play games together, watch KZbin occasionally but we get out and spend more time together. We ride bikes as a family all the time. Go hiking, exploring, all kinds of stuff. We ACTUALLY have conversations about life in general which is pretty impressive considering we have 2 teenagers and a preteen. I challenge you to go one year without TV and see if you like your life better.

You're 100% right Rhett. When I hear the TV or Radio now... it's like static noise and it think it's why people are so reactionary.

We gave up Cable TV about 1 1/2 years ago and life is so much better. We had Netflix but found that we barely used it, so that is gone too. I am amazed that people are shocked that someone can go without TV. They do not know what they are not missing.

Just don't give up KZbin! :) We're right there with you!

Why don’t you watch tv
@KeepYourDaydream6 жыл бұрын
We didn't find tv very inspiring. Mostly drama. Once we turned on KZbin only, our wheels started turning and now we're doing this. TV just mad us either anxious, sad, mad or bored.

Ok Tori.....time to tell mom n dad.....pay the big bucks get me better lenses....I like the frames...but the lenses make you look like your wearing magnifying glasses. My daughter has super bad eyes too....time to hammer mom n dad for better lenses. A bit more expensive....but worth it. Or tell mom....time for contacts...it's not my fault for bad genetics!! 😉 Sorry mom n dad....Tori has new ammo now.
@KeepYourDaydream8 жыл бұрын
Yes, this is mom territory... but I didn't know more exp. lenses could be thinner. Tori does wear contacts, but glasses are better for RV living. I'll spend the extra $$ for thinner lenses. I was cleaning them the other day and noticed how thick they were.

Hey there Jimmy Z thanks for the tip. I bet we are both on the same page on this one... that... what should really be "magnified" is that Tori looks awesome, no mater the size of her lens but rather by the quality of who she is. :) Tricia (the other comment was from Marc)

currently going through the lens thickness thing with my 12 year old and having gone through it myself I told her at 18 she can have the lazik surgery (I and my wife both had it 15 years ago and no regrets). Like you said it's the what's inside that counts in the long run but we live in a very judgemental world so we all want whats best for our kids...

U guys don't watch tv? Really?
@KeepYourDaydream8 жыл бұрын
That's right. We moved to Netflix and iTunes only a few years ago... and started only watching series like Game of Thrones, etc. Then overtime we got out of the habit and soon only watched KZbin. I truly believe watching KZbin made this adventure happen. Instead of watching drama on TV, we were watching things that promoted more conversation about "why aren't we doing that?"

Sorry, one of my few dislikes. This is supposed to be an RV America, not rent an apartment and tour video...
