I just stumbled onto one of your videos the other day. I am now playing catch up on them all because, hi! Hooked!. RV life is my current daydream goal. The fact that you all just did this knowing nothing, kind of learning on the go, makes it seem a lot more possible for someone like me who knows nothing RV related. Your videos are informative AND hilarious, and I am totally subscribed. Hope you are able to continue this, if you choose, and happy travels!

Catching up on all things KYD. All I can say, it how amazing your travels were for the kiddos. I loved when we did homeschool because we were able to actually able to go, see, and do 'history' lessons that our daughter would have never had the opportunity to do in a classroom. At this point, I'm sure your kids can look back and see just what they really learned hands-on vs a textbook. So awesome!

Loved seeing you in my home town! Me, my mother and my grandmother were all born there. Fun fact: before there was even a fence around the White House, my grandmother used to cut across the White House lawn to go to work, and wave to Eleanor Roosevelt on her way. It is a beautiful, vibrant city. And kind of sleepy when I was a kid. Government closed in August, because of the heat. When I was about 4, I would visit my grandmother in white gloves and my best dress. Everyone put on their best clothes to go to DC then. So different now, eh?

HappyHappy Birthday dear Marc. HappyHappy Birthday to you. (Even though it is way past now!) Fantastic video as always. ❤️ the Capitol. Metro was a great idea. So glad you didn't get a ticket. I'm sure it would have been a lot of $$$. So happy you got a drone for your birthday. Nice gift Trish. Marc, I think you really enjoyed the guy playing violin. He was good. Your family always look so happy. Do you think they will be sad to leave the RV life? Take care.
@KeepYourDaydream8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Patty. Yeah, I had no idea when I was recording the Violinist that I would use his music. I was recording him for so long because Trish was getting drinks... lots of walking and it was pretty hot that day. I think we'll always RV, but we're planning "season 2 and 3" now... so the adventure will continue after this trip with more frequent stops at home. The DC metro is the best in the country in terms of ease, safety and cleanliness for the most part. I lived in DC for several years and it was a great place to be in my early twenties. So many young people because of the numerous universities, so many free things to do (movies on the mall in the summer are fun), a growing food scene, and just an energy about it. The only bad thing is the weather can not be the best, really hot humid summer and very damp (sometimes very snowy) winters.
@TravelingKristin7 жыл бұрын
Also key tip for escalators in the cities on the east coast, if you are going to stand (going up or down) please all stand to the right, the left is for those who prefer to walk. When you bunch up like that it can frustrate the locals. just a friendly tip. :)

Been to DC several times ... for a week or more each time ... and still feel there is much more to see than I've already seen. Last trip, I stayed in a hotel just down Pennsylvania Ave from the white house ... across the street from a Trader Joe's. SO convenient!! Of course ... things are quite different there now, I assume. I sure hope this world "rights" itself soon! Great video ... thanks!!! ♥

Thanks for another great episode. I really enjoyed it. You folks crack me up every episode! There’s just so much playfulness and joy in your whole approach to life. There is TOO MUCH to see in DC! You need a month there to even come close to seeing a significant portion of it. We found a great regional campground in Clinton, MD, just south of town. One day we found legal street parking for all day, on Constitution Ave., directly between the Washington Monument and the Elipse & the White House South Lawn. Happy Trails

DC was probably our favorite trip that we've done. So much to see and do. We stayed at Cherry Hill Campground. They actually have their very own Metro (bus) stop in the campground. Hop on for a short trip to the Metro rail station.

Your announcements voice at the beginning reminds me of our last big family beach trip. I finally started using my “if I worked at Disney and was doing crowd control” voice lol. I could barely talk by the end of the day trying to keep 9 kids from drowning and yelling over the sounds of the waves all day. At one point I was even yelling “ma’am! Please stay to this side of the invisible line” at my adult sister because she was out of the lines we had set that the kids could swim in. 🤣
@cleverblonde44068 жыл бұрын
Love your kids. We traveled a lot when our kids were similar ages and we were ALWAYS late on the road. I love seeing the boys hang towels or fabric to stop the glare in the car. My kids did that too. My kids think they invented it. And seeing how they started doing it with the old GameBoys they probable did. Youngest is from the iPod/iPhone/iPad DS era.
@KeepYourDaydream8 жыл бұрын
They're good travelers and adjusted well to full-time travel. We're lucky in that regard. I though I invented the blanket sun screen... long before the SD era ;) Nintendo Gameboy (Tetris) was barely invented then... it was Solitaire or sleep. Reading was not an option!

Happy birthday Marc, If I may make a suggestion on the drone, If you can, paint the front section of the drone and the front legs a bright red or orange so you can tell the orientation where the front of the drone is. Once the drone gets about 50 away, it will be hard to tell which way is front. If you can not do the paint. Get some color tape will work too. Start easy and practice flying it low and get use to it before going crazy with it . Good luck
@KeepYourDaydream8 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea! There was an RV park in Miami with a wide open field where I got very proficient at flying. However, there might have been an incident at Devil's Den Spring with a drone and some hanging moss. :(
@TravelswithYoly8 жыл бұрын
Speaking of germie touristy things ... Yoly and I visited the Mel Fisher Treasure Museum in Key West where they had a plexiglass box containing an authentic gold bar from a famous shipwreck. There was a round hole in the side of the box just big enough to get a hand through, allowing one to pick up and feel how heavy a real gold bar was. Problem was that with 3 cruise ships a day parking there, thousands of people a day pick up that bar and unfortunately, we didn't figure that out until the next day when we both got sicker than we ever have in our entire lives. Mine lasted a week and I completely lost my voice for 4 days ! Lesson learned :-)

Take the metro subway to Union Station. From there you walk across the street and you can catch the circulator bus that does the whole route past all the monuments and museums. The bus only costs a dollar and you can get on and off for the first two hours without paying again if you use the metro pass that you buy for the subway. After two hours it costs you another dollar. Great deal.

Yeah, wish we would have known that. Glad you mentioned it for others reading the comments.

Great video! I could spend weeks in DC touring everything there is to see and do. Do they still allow your to tour the White House? That was one of my most memorable things to do when I visited when I was a kid.
@KeepYourDaydream8 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The Capitol tour was planned a month in advance through our Congressman. Because AZ is so far away from DC... they don't get as many tours so we got lucky with a private tour. But the White House requires far more notice. Months in advance with a 20% chance of coming through. Its probably the only thing I'd like to go back to do.

Thanks Juan. You'll have to listen to Ep 100 on the podcast where Trish and I break down the trip and share how it came about with our lessons learned. Should be posted on our website by late tonight. FL is already behind us. We stopped in St. Augustine, Ocala, Miami, Key West, Everglades, Sarasota, St Pete's, and Destin. Lots of great videos I hope!

We pulled the same move on a Boy Scout trip: camping outside the city and parking at the metro. Was great until the last day the truck got stolen =O. My dad drove down from NJ to pick up the six of us and our trailer.

No way. That will put a damper in a trip!

Keep Your Daydream Just a funny memory now! The guy who owned it said silver lining=he was happy to get rid of the oil leak. Then they found the thing around the corner from where it was stolen, out of diesel! Safe travels!

Oh final thing, you mentioned you rather see the animals live than dead from the NYC natural history museum. You should have gone to the National Zoo then, it is free as it is part of the Smithsonian Institute and it is right within Rock Creek Park so very pretty setting. I used to live two blocks from there.

Yeah, I'm pretty much impossible when it comes to "looking at stuff". Love doing. Entertaining myself. Don't like being entertained anymore. It's a problem. :)

Metro is the real deal. I honest as a non-american thought the length of the white house ticket acquisition was not worth it. As an american my opinion would be different. As a man interested in machines the Air and Space museum would be a bucket list item on the first degree. It covers decades of development , first flights and real, I mean REAL items of historical value of period of flight. It's probably to late but don't forget the Civil War as you head south. It one of my favourite interestes.

Great comment. Yes, it would be nice to see what the White House looks like on the inside. With so much election news now, it was fun to know where all the Congressman stand when being interviewed, etc. The air and space museum was a bit dated. I heard there was a air graveyard a hour from DC that was worth visiting. Unfortunately, we're not visiting the south on this trip.

I love watching you guys,you are doing what I would love to do. Why a Ford and a Travel Trailer and not a rv??
@KeepYourDaydream8 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you'll make it happen Jay. We chose a truck & travel trailer for a couple reasons. 1) Wasn't sure RV Life was going to work for us and I already owned the truck. 2) It seemed RVs had more systems and issues that were costly and if it needed repair, we'd be in a hotel. If I were to do it again, I would have got a F-350 and 36' 5th wheel. That would be better suited for the 5 of us... but it's working so I'll keep the same setup. We have found a trailer feels a bit more like home once it's setup and drive days are not often and not long. We've learned that many people with an RV or Class A aren't really relaxing when underway and with the slide in, there isn't much room. Personal preference I'm sure and I enjoy trucks :) Maybe as empty nesters, I would consider a Freightliner Class C such as a Danamax.

Being from Arizona... we've spent a lot of time in Cali. Trish grew up there and we were engaged in San Fran. Yes, we're planning on traveling up the coast for Season 3 next summer. Keep in touch. The music is from Epidemic Sound (link in desc.) Great solution for KZbinrs with a cheap subscription to unlimited music. -Marc
