Hello Campers!
On this weeks episode we are going to talk about an exciting upgrade to the RV. As most of you know our Cougar 5th Wheel is a 2019 model. As to your surprise, we have been planning on replacing the roof from day 1. Why? Because after having our first camper which had water damage (both from a leaking roof and water heater that someone didn’t winterize) we simply could not see another beautiful (and expensive) camper go to ruin after only a few years of service life. You may say, all you have to do is check the seals every 3-6 months. Which for the most part is true, but all it takes is one small pin hole to let water in and not catch it for a little while and everything then takes a drastic turn for the worse. I can tell you after (attempting) to rebuild a camper with water damage, it’s a much cheaper and easier option to prevent it from ever happening. I did receive a promotional discount for this product, but I did still pay a large portion of the costs. I understand that it is a large investment (I don’t want to go over prices, because I did that once in a video and was inaccurate… and prices change.) I will explain how I made this decision and some things that prompted me to do so. It became evident when I was on the roof in the summer and the TPO was literally stretching under my sandals. I was afraid that alone would cause a pin hole or two in the roof. Just before I got this new trailer, I started seeing advertisements for the RV Roof Armor System. I didn’t know that much about the roof, but what attracted me was the Lifetime warranty that they have. I have since found out that not only is the warranty a lifetime warranty, but it is essentially a transferable lifetime warranty. The warranty information is stored under the RV’s VIN number. A lot of warranties around have a lot of restrictions, so are there any restrictions on an RV Armor Roof? The short answer is no. According to Lee Thaxton, President of RV Roof Armor, some of the competitors advertise lifetime warranties, but you have to return and have an inspection every so often. With RV Roof Armor you never have to have it inspected. They are that confident in their product. Lee actually says in many of his videos that basically when you pay to have your roof put on RV Armor essentially take ownership of your roof and they see it as their problem to fix if there are any problems with it. For the process itself, a trained RV Roof Specialist is going to be sent to your camper (you don’t even have to move it in most situations.) The tech was professional and did cover my vents and made sure everything was buttoned up before a rainfall one day. This also added another day for the install. He stated that the rain doesn’t hurt anything and all three layers still chemically bond together just like nothing had ever happened. It’s important to note that each coat that they do goes just a little further than the last coat, which in theory promotes adherence. This is true for the front and back strips, as well as the gutters along the sides. I’m very happy with my seamless roof (rubber roof) from RV Armor. It gives me great security in knowing I don’t have to constantly worry about water intrusion in my camper. It also is supposed to add some insulation value to the roof as well. It does need to be said that they do your entire roof, but they do not do the tops of slides.

It does look good. The contractor appears to have done a good job. But, the only way I would accept a 'lifetime' warranty is if it was backed by a stand-alone, individual insurance policy ...issued by a 'known' insurance company. It is not an uncommon practice to pump up a company's books to sell to a Private Equity group that immediately prepares it for chap.11 or re-sale. Given the amount of time the typical RV owner holds the title, there could be a two-year 'leaks' warranty available for a lower cost. Depending on the cost, I might even buy that.... Jim

@GimpyCamper 2 жыл бұрын
Flex seal is highly discouraged by the professionals as well and tends to not hold up in the long term from reports I have heard. Yes there are cheaper do it yourself options, most failures on these come from a lack of preparation. I personally like the warranty

So when you did not remove your air condition did they tell you if you ever had it worked on to where the air condition come off the roof you broke the seal warranty is voided if you replace the skylight if we will void the warranty if you replace a vent it will void the warranty in the last you take it to them and get it re-sealed they will not come to you you have to take it to them
@GimpyCamper
@GimpyCamper 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t think the seal actually goes all the way to the air conditioner gasket. I have seen them tell people on their FB that if you added solar panels then they could send you the kit to do it yourself or you would have to pay a minimum service call fee but they still come to you

@@FunDuude it can also be misleading as the price is per linear foot, the price then was $150/ ft but that can change, they also have a 24’ minimum so that’s $3600 and a 40’ fifth wheel would be 6k barring pricing changes; there are also additional options so the easiest thing to do is to get a quote
@FunDuude
@FunDuude 2 жыл бұрын
@@GimpyCamper ...This yr it supposedly went up to 165 per linear foot. I just don't understand why people make videos and don't want to give a price. All YOU had to say was:" according to their website it's 165 per linear ft starting in 2021. Anywho, it's still cheaper than the solution/option that I'm contemplating, namely VORTEX coating, that's some bad ass stuff, but it would set me back 15K. So to me 6-7K is a good price, especially with a lifetime warranty.

Don't worry about it if you maintain the factory roof the way it was intended you will be just fine. The guy in this video taking a brand new cougar and ripping all the sealant off the roof. So by doing this DIY not only has it voided his warranty with keystone but he just put his trust in some unreliable company that probably will go out of business and his warranty will be useless.
