We just had our roof done by RV Armor and are very happy with the finished product. The technician was awesome, he explained everything to us and answered any questions we had as he was working. He is also an rv'er and travels the country with his family doing this as a side business. We did not have any leaks or problems just wanted to do it as a preventative measure because as business owners of 30 years we have found preventive maintenance is cheaper and more convenient than "oh crap we need this fixed now". Best of luck with which ever one you choose to go with.

Awesome balanced review....we have a RV FlexArmour 1 hour from our house. I have spoken with both companies also and both are awesome choices. We have a 24 foot Class C motorhome. 3 years old....discovered a very tiny leak, but I'm gonna nip this whole thing in the bud. I've resealed a rv roof before, lots of work and still have to spot-seal after that. I think this ought to be standard install out of factory....it's gonna be a real game changer. We're having ours done in the next few months.

Just this week, we had our FW roof done by RV Armor. Since it's brand new, I can't comment on longevity but, it sure looks good. I weighed both systems in my head, RV Armor and Flex Armor ... I like the idea of RV Armor being able to "come to you" for the job and future repairs if needed.

We drove from Northern Indiana to Pigeon Forge, TN. to have our Flex Armor roof sprayed on. We are very happy with the roof. It looks great and more important is the fact we will never have to worry about it leaking.... I felt more comfortable with a shop environment rather than out in elements having this done, plus Flex armor is thicker there for harder to damage.

We researched RV Armor, Rhino Roof, Flex Armor and we had Flex Armor in Denton Texas install our new roof April 2020 and we love it! Fantastic insulation and sound reduction as well. Our insurance covered everything, including our hotel room, meals etc and we saved money! Customer service was top notch and we would ONLY consider Flex Armor in the future. We have been fulltime since 2015. Our one year old Flex Armor roof looks like new!

Glad to hear such a good report on FlexArmor! We agree that FlexArmor is the way to go if you are not full time, and live close to one of their shops. But we don't want to drive hundreds of miles to one of their locations each time we make a change on the roof. I really don't think you can go wrong with either company, but FlexArmor is definitely thicker, so more sound proof and more protection. Thanks for your comment!

Had an RV Armor roof applied at the Green Cove Springs, FL location and were totally satisfied with the product, company and results. For my money, I want the controlled shop application. They repaired wood damage from a water leak, changes fan covers as well as a/c gaskets. Have since sold this coach and the transferable warranty was a plus to the new owner. I’d use them again if a new roof was needed on my current rig.

We agree that FlexArmor is the better product and that's why we wanted to go with them at first. Unfortunately, until they have more locations we will have to go with RV Armor. We had the RV Armor roof install a few years ago. Even though our 5th wheel is a 2004 Jayco. It was the best decision that we made. I price the rubber roof replacement and there was a few hundred dollars difference. But we are getting not younger an the less maintenance sounds like a winner to me. I’m the one that has to get up there. I wash our roof at least once a year and seal it. So there was not much of an argument from my husband. They came to house and did it in 2 days. They travel the country year around and with the warm season. If I was to get a newer RV I would definitely put on the RV Armor roof again.

I have had FlexArmor do roofs for 3 RV’s now. Admittedly, I’m only an hour’s drive from New England RV Roof where the work is done, so going back for any possible accessory changes later isn’t an issue. The product is amazing! I first had it done on my Arctic Fox 865 truck camper, and that camper now has over 50,000 miles and a lot of tree branch encounters in its history, but the FlexArmor doesn’t even show a scratch! Also … at least in the facility where I had it done… any repairs needed to the roof are done thoroughly before application of the polymer roof, and at no additional charge. They also use their own special solar panel mounts that work well with the polymer coating, so the installation includes removal and replacement of your solar mounts, again at no added cost. Each RV (my other two were Grand Design toy hauler trailers) took three days total, although if you need roof repairs before application, that can add to the time. The application is done in an almost “clean room” environment, so you can be sure the temperature is perfect, the polymer cures properly, and no dust or dirt contamination occurs. I have no experience with the other vendor, so I can’t comment on them.

I love your great video to help educate people about a bad experience and how to address it. We just had a similar problem with our Solitude 375RES so in searching for information on KZbin I found your video. I will probably go the FlexArmor route. We are full time but will plan to do it during winter at our home base location near Houston. I did look at the locations on their website out of concern about any future issues, and see that they are now up to about 24 locations. However it clearly is focused on the eastern half of the country, very sparse in the western half. Just to make someone aware who is looking at this in more current times. Thanks again!

thanks for the video - my 2020 has the TPO starting to bubble up in the front. It's stored inside. The roof seems fine underneath, think I've no wood/deck damage - just adhesive failing. I'm going to try repairing the TPO myself: taking the Dicor off the front and sides, unscrewing the gutter rails a few feet, unscrewing and removing the front cap trim, pulling back the TPO and applying new glue, rolling the TPO back in place then doing new Dicor on those areas. Also, going back and checking all the rest of the side & back seams (Dicor) as well as all vents. I especially want to see how to inspect around the AC - where water is even present in condensate HOPEFULLY running off the roof and NOT into any gaps... I did price the spray on - under $6k here in Houston (where I am). Maybe some day. But, I don't like the idea of is simply being put on top of the TPO. If the adhesive fails, might it still bubble up? I'd also like to confirm solid undamaged decking underneath before spending on such a project.

We had the RVFlex Armor coating applied 3 years ago prior to starting to full time in our 24’ Class C and highly recommended it. We did not have any roof leaks, but since leaks cause so much damage and are difficult to prevent, we wanted to make sure that we never had one. After having solar installed we took the motorhome back to RVFlex Armor for the day, and had the mounting feet sealed into urethane roofing material. There have been zero leaks and I doubt you would have had your EPO roof material tear if your roof had the RVFlex Armor coating which is 3/16” thick and very tough but flexible. I recently broke a vent cover on a tree limb and was able to replace it since it did not impact the vent flange. I think that is it important that the coating that is applied in a controlled environment and having to drive to the installation location and hotel is worth the quality of the product. I have no relationship with the company other than being a very happy customer.

Had same tree nick with my RV. I was fortunate to find a RV repairman with a machine that did a spray in roof. $100.00/A foot. I have a 30’ RV. Insurance took care of it all after a &500.00 deductible, I also got new plywood grade A and the roof is lifetime warranty. Love my RV roof. It has lasted now for 4 years. My seals are still in excellent condition and I maintain my RV myself (wash, repair, clean, & lube everything) This is the main reason that I won’t trade/sell my RV. Would have to be a really good reason for me to give it up. It’s like a small studio size for me. Down side it’s 30 amp. But can’t have it all. But maybe one day. A class A. Happy Trails 🏝🏕🚌

I have an RV FlexArmor for going on 3-years now and absolutely LOVE IT. I drove 9-hours to Dependable RV in Mississippi from Illinois. Gary and his team did an outstanding job on the roof. The roof I had got air under the membrane due to a lack of proper glue application from the factory and got worse with each camping trip. The roof actually blew up like a balloon on the way to Mississippi...but that is another story. It was cheaper for me to drive down and back to Mississippi(including hotel room for two nights) then to have the same roof reinstalled on my rig from a local dealer. The crew removed my entire roof and applied directly to the wood after a primer was applied. Gary kept me updated on a daily basis and i was able to view the progress at the end of each day. As noted on my post to your roof damage video, some of our camping club members were so impressed that 3-4 other members have also made the drive to Mississippi to have Gary and his team complete their roof as well. On a 90+ degree day, I can go up on the roof and the RV FlexArmor will be cool to the touch and unless there is a HEAVY rain, I do not hear it inside the coach. As you have stated, I think location is key to your decision....good luck on your choice.

We definitely would go with FlexArmor if we were not fulltimers and there were a location close to home. It is thicker than RV Armor. But with both offering lifetime warranties for the life of the trailer we feel the "come to you" factor of RV Armor and the fact we don't have to go back to FlexArmor if we do a roof mod is the deciding factor. Glad to hear that it adds extra sound insulation too. What a great bonus!

@@LizAmazing oh perfect! That’s easy to do in there. Record in stereo the way you originally did it, while editing alt+drag down your audio track. It will make a duplicate of it. Select the top audio track and press shift+g. It will bring up audio channels. In there make sure both check marks are on “L” and press ok. On the bottom audio track press shift+g again but this time make sure that both check marks are on “R”. Now, one of the audio tracks will be you and one will be Paul. If the audio tracks become unlinked with the video while you’re editing select the video and both audio tracks and press control+L. You may have to do that twice since the first time it will unlink what’s already linked and the second time will link them all together. This post is probably confusing since I’m horrible at explaining lol. It’s really easy in practice though and will be really helpful in the future especially while filming outside of the camper. Someone in my Newmar group just put Flexarmor on their roof. But the company took the whole roof off, and put down new insulation and planking and then put the coating on. Cost $9000.00. They really like it but they wish they had covered everything inside the rig because any where their were fans , little particles came in and landed all over their stuff. (But they also had the whole roof removed)
@LizAmazing
@LizAmazing 3 жыл бұрын
Good to know. A solution to anyone going with FlexArmor would be to cover everything with drop cloths just in case. We have heard good things about FlexArmor. We would probably go with them if they had more than 16 locations across the US. As it is now, each time we need to make a change on the roof, we would have to drive hundreds of miles for them to touch up the roof. So we are still thinking we will go with RV Armor, but both companies are good and both have lifetime transferable warranties.

That is the best way to go. If insurance covers it, go with either of those companies versus The manufacturer tpo junk. So, I've put a deposit down on RV Armor. I did that November or December of last year when they were running a "book now for spring sale". I saved a few bucks on my linear foot rate, so it was worth it to book at that time. I feel like I made a fine decision in spite of the roof not being applied yet. There is a FlexArmor dealer about 80 miles from me in Pasco, WA, but that means I have to caravan down with my wife, leave the rig with them, drive 80 miles back home, and then do it all over again when they are done. I like that RV Armor is going to come to me. I do not have a negative opinion of FlexArmor, it just isn't as convenient to me. Nothing is too much more convenient than somebody coming to you to do the work. My roof is EPDM and original to the rig. It's had some caulking done over the years, but previous owners haven't really paid much attention to anything except for periodic patching. There was a bit of water damage in the past, but the previous owner seemed to do what a lot of RVers do: throw a lot of caulk on the offending area and hope for the best. It worked. But the only way to really solidify the roof and weatherproof it is to have an applied roof put on. This is an older rig, so a full strip and reapplication of EPDM might not be worth it. On the other hand the applied roof is a much better option and the fact that I can talk about the benefits of this lifetime roof to the next owner may help my sale price. I'll also feel a lot more confident going out in poorer weather. A lot of great camping is on the wet side of the state and I'd like to go there and not be concerned about leaks. I live on the dry side of the state, which has probably extended the life of this roof. Your video reminded me to email my project manager at RV Armor about when they will show up in the PNW. Spring has sprung here and we are getting beautiful, dry, 65 degree days on a regular basis.

We, too, do not have a negative opinion of FlexArmor. Perhaps in five years or so there will be a ton more locations making it more convenient to go that route. Till then, it's RV Armor for us. Let us know how you like it once it's installed. We'll get ours later this year.

@@LizAmazing so, my roof is finished! The installer took 3 days to do it. The EPDM was totally oxidized, but he felt it was solid enough to base the new roof on. He taped and patched all the cracks and holes. The first coat, a clear primer, made the black roof all glossy after that first day. He had taped and covered all the flaws in the EPDM and laid the primer. At that point the the roof was basically sealed. The next couple of day were the application of the build up coats. He did a great job dealing over the front, rear and side seams of the room to the walls. It is both great looking and nice to know that everything is sealed up and warranted against leaks.

Yes, it's under warranty. And insurance will pay for a new TPO. But with TPO being like tissue paper, we won't be going that route again. And that's what we thought, that the product is only as good as what it's applied to. But as we say in the video, the material bonds to the original membrane and it becomes a new stronger surface. Great question! At first we thought we were going to go with RV Armor for the convenience of having the work done on the road. They will come to us. Plus if a touch-up is needed, RV Armor gives you some caulk. With FlexArmor, we would have to go to one of their shops, and there's not that many. THEN we realized even if we do RV Armor, we still need to move out of our rig while the work is done (just like with FlexArmor). After that, we heard from a viewer who said they got FlexArmor and later scraped the roof. The rubber was so thick it withstood the scrape. That convinced us!!! SO...we canceled our RV Armor appt and made an appt with FlexArmor. Stay tuned for a video later this summer! (And we don't think you can go wrong either way!)

I don't know about that. If they have to do all that work, that is pretty labor-intensive. I guess you could get a second estimate. We will be going with RV Armor more later this year. We have to schedule it out far enough in advance and get our schedules to align. Let us know how it goes.

We haven't yet put on the new roof. The Eternabond tape has been holding up just fine. Thanks for watching.

Did you consider Rhino Linings?
@LizAmazing
@LizAmazing 3 жыл бұрын
Had not heard of them except in relation to truck beds. This stuff is basically the same thing. We are pretty sure we will go with RV Armor for the reasons we listed in the video.

We have the Rhino lining. We are having to have it replaced. The product manufacturer does not warrant the product but instead leaves each applicator to warrant it. They will always blame applicator error. Needless to say, our applicator is out of business. The issue is that unlike these two products, the Rhino roof does not flex. We have cracks all along the edge of the roof. We are currently researching between the same two products Liz is, and also whether we should have the Rhino removed or gone over. Thanks Liz and Paul for a thorough comparison of the two. We still have our own research to do, but you helped us by giving us additional thoughts to consider and questions to ask each company.

Hi Liz, My name is Dave and I run the Flexarmor location in Pigeon Forge, TN. I wanted to correct the misinformation in your video! David Adair is with Flexarmor. Other that that, I think you had a lot of good points. I though it was well considered and well produced.

Hi Dave! Whoops thanks so much about that. It should have said David Hamilton who is the sales director for RV Armor. And thanks for your kind words about our video!

@@LizAmazing I would love to hear about your experience with the other guys. I was of course disappointed in your choice for the obvious reason. But I am honestly curious what your roof looks like in the coming years. I put mine on my camper about 6 months ago. If you ever get to Pigeon Forge, Tn. I would love to host you at our shop so you can do an honest follow up in the years to come. Please be safe in your travels.

@@Longshiprv Thanks David! We have not done the roof repair yet. We messed up the back corner of our camper and that took a few months to get it fixed. We are just now ready to schedule the repair. We love FlexArmor and it seems to be the better product. BUT, as we say in the video, the drawbacks of there being so few locations means we likely would have to drive hundreds of miles should we need to work on our solar or replace a roof vent. Since both FlexArmor and RV Armor offer lifetime guarantees, we feel choosing RV Armor is the way to go. They will come to us, and they will give us product to use down the line if we need to make any roof modifications. Once FlexArmor is more convenient, then that will be the way to go. Thanks again!

This repair is probably the most economical way to go, but I just do not trust the adhesion of the roofs the manufacturers are installing. Seems like I see more campers going down the road with their roofs ballooning up. Unfortunately these coatings will not help this issue at all. If you want to learn more about this check out AZExpert James, he has lots of videos about fixing RV roofs.. great information. Here is one of his recent roof videos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJ64f3SCrd10kMk

Yes, we have heard about the roofs ballooning up. This won't happen with RV Armor or FlexArmor on top of the TPO. Their product bonds to the TPO and becomes a new stronger surface.

Just waiting on an estimate on my roof where the insurance would not cover. Water seepage so I am going to have that area patched and then go this route and cover the whole roof. In the 45 years I have had been around RVs this is the first roof issue I have encountered. This goes to show just how the quality control is and how unregulated the RV industry is. Sad state of affairs.... Thanks for the information...

You are so welcome. Either RV Armor or FlexArmor will be way cheaper than TPO. Glad to hear you are going to get the whole roof done. Wishing you a fabulous camping season!

Insurance is a business. If you make a claim for tree collision your rates will skyrocket!!!!! Trade in value plummets with an aftermarket roof that is not OEM from their configuration manual. That tree branch scrape needed a piece of Eterna bond tape properly installed. Eterna bond will outlast all of us !!!!! Looky at the RV Geeks, their Tape is 15 years old and looks new, still to this day!!!

I can't imagine that trade-in value would do anything but go up with a lifetime transferable roof warranty. Especially since TPO is so fragile. Knowing what we know now, if we were shopping we'd be looking for a coated roof. And, yes, insurance is a business so our rates could likely go up. But that's what insurance is for, so we're good with that. Grateful. Agreed that Eternabond will outlast us all, LOL!
