Great video. Always refreshing to visit the west coast. Have hiked all the beaches many times, and as you mentioned, some busy, others not. Unfortunate that Greens point closes for the winter, that is always a fun time to stay out there.

🙏We have thought to lobby the folks to keep at least part of the park campground open all year, so nice suspect many folks would camp there. Probably have to limit some of the services, but with power it could work well.

Absolutely LOVE that part of Vancouver Island. Haven't been for several years, but miss it lots! Last time we were there GreenPoint didn't have hookups!

It is a very special place! All the sites have power, which is nice as it avoids generators (we didn’t notice, but someone else said that they are specifically not allowed to be used) and the washrooms /showers are very modern and nice. Still, it is the location that makes is so wonderful.

We love Tofino but find its easier and cheaper to go to the Oregon Coast. It works out that it does not take any longer if the border waits are short. Oregon has amazing state parks as you probably know. Nancy

Yes, the ferry, both the cost (though in our van it’s only about $7 more than a car) and just getting a booking that works does tend to limit our trips to the Island…suspect islanders like that filter! It’s been a long time since we’ve been down to Oregon and never in our van…on the list. A lot of folks also comment on how RV friendly the state is!

You definitely lucked out getting a spot on this long weekend. Congrats. Watching your video I pondered how often you two actually use the awning you paid for when you bought your RV. I don’t have one and don’t want one.

We actually were ahead of the weekend, but lucky regardless. The only days that were available were at the very beginning of the month and then the campground appeared fully booked until September. As for the awning, we generally only use when we are camped somewhere out in the open. Always retract when not needed, so it may not always show in our videos. It can work well when we do use, but the majority of the time for us either the sun is in the wrong position or simply not needed as we try to park where there is shade. Some folks use all the time it appears. An interesting option for some RVs is a batwing; if you have a roof rack you can attach on almost any side and adjust angle as needed. All manual of course, so light and simple.

If memory serves many of sites 71-90 are ocean facing (83 is..) and several have either glimpses or nice views…perfect! Enjoy and safe travels! Btw, we didn’t mention but the highway construction was still underway near Kennedy Lake, but we found little to no delay.

Thank you for doing this video. Hoping to go on my first ever vacation @ 54 and considering this campground as well as French Beach. How far is it to the beach from the closest sites? And is the path to the beach walker accessible? Ive developed mobility issues, i can walk but need to be able to stop and sit so would want to walk with my walker. And when would you say the bugs start? We'd be planning on booking for last week of May 2025.

@@kevlarspirit392 we don’t recall the main trail as having any obstacles, but it is steep and not paved.. Of course the end near the beach itself can be a bit mucky at times (mix of sand/mud and any small logs that have floated in). There is a second trail more in the middle of the campground as well. Neither trail really what we would call walker friendly given steep grade. Probably a 5- 10 minute walk from most camping to the beach. The campground itself is on a hill above the beach, but there are several spots within the park itself that are more easily accessible from a parking lot along the beach (see note here parks.canada.ca/pn-np/bc/pacificrim/visit/visit3) . All are a short drive away and amazing as well. Just to note: reservations fill here quickly…usually in first few days at best. As for bugs…well the last few times we were there was early May and never a real issue for us, but we would guess not much later, but it also,depends on your site. Closer to the beach a bit more of a breeze and less standing water issues. We haven’t heard anyone really complain about it. We hope this helps! Certainly one of the nicer places to visit in BC!

@@hikenrv The main trail, is that the one near site 94 and next to the lookout point? The one that people walk through a rock opening and it brings you out onto the beach near the big ocean rocks? Is the trail dirt/crushed rock? I would probably use my walker where I can, it's got semi all terrian wheels. Then fold it and use poles where I can't. Or use poles/ hubbys arm and a lightweight collapsible chair for when I need to stop and sit. Hopefully my mobility will have improved more by then but just going off how it is now just in case. Would you think bugs would be bad by the last week of May?
