There isn’t a huge load above the new opening. Does is not need a header? Should you at least reinforce the truss under that attic window?
@RunawayRoses
@RunawayRoses 4 жыл бұрын
Hi John Pattillo,. I actually did add some extra framing and supports in the wall I just didn't record it and put it in the video. You're correct it's a non load bearing wall so there's not much weight above. Thanks for watching!

@@UprootedAdventures no we will probably be here in this house for a while. We're can't afford to go full time. We would like to go on some longer trips though and keep our home base. Maybe someday we'll be able to do that but for now we'll just live vicariously through you guys 😁👍

@@RunawayRoses Hey that's not a bad deal either, it's expensive on the road. Atleast you still get to play. Will see how long we last, hoping the youtube gig takes off for us haha. But will try not to let you down, and keep the videos coming!

Awesome video guys!! From a creators standpoint, you nailed it on this one! Those doors are awesome. Now it’s time for Todd to come to Tall Pine Lodge and help me renovate our front deck.

This was a sad reminder for me that my dad lost his life four years ago doing the same project for his new camper that was two feet to tall for his existing roll up door. He suffer a fall from his ladder onto concrete resulting in a traumatic head injury that he never regained consciousness from. He lingered for ten days till his body simply gave up. His fall occurred only four days after he purchased his new camper, never got to spend a single night in it. Please take our sad experience as a reminder to take ever possible precaution when working on ladders. It saddens me to know others will suffer the same fate because of an instant of inattention. Please don't be one of them.

I had other comments about the 1st half, but thought best to leave them unsaid..!! LOL! But, on the 2nd half: I would have used galvanized steel studs for the door frames as they will not shrink, rot and pull apart over time.. You will need proper drip edge flashing under the siding and over the door tops (the siding will need to cut higher) to divert water from flooding the interior and a vertical weather strip on one door to overlap the joint between the doors when closed.. One long brace for such tall doors is not enough. Also needed are proper gussets to hold the doors square and prevent sagging over time.. Those hinges are worthless.. Extra large, aluminum piano hinges and screws are what is necessary for the weight and act as flashing/weather stripping between the doors and the jambs.. I could go on about this obvious home-owner attempt, but I am a friend and not foe and will say no more.. LOL! Good luck, Todd, you'll need it.. Happy camping, you two...!!!

@RunawayRoses 4 жыл бұрын
I did add new drip edge flashing above the doors and under the siding and extra supports in the walls. The hinges work just fine but if I have to replace them with larger ones I will. I didn't show everything that I did. I'm not an expert Carpenter but I'm sure plenty of people that comment will think they are and will tell me I should have done it differently. The doors aren't perfect but they get the job done! Take Care and Thanks for watching!

@@RunawayRoses Well, Todd, I AM an expert carpenter, framer, electrician, plumber and also many more trades.. I was NOT trying to upstage you, but, I do like to build it right the first time and not over and over again wasting time and money, especially in wet/damp/humid/bug ridden climates.. Some of my suggestions may be helpful the next time.. LOL! Take care and be well....

I should have had you do it for me. I was trying to find someone to do it for me but the contractors I spoke with acted like they didn't want to do it. Two general contractors and one garage door company. I figured they were all probably busier with bigger projects. Thanks for the tips.

Great upgrade and will make storing the TC soooooo much easier. You are very talented and probably did a better job than a hired contractor. On another note; I suggest that you leave the Lance outside a few times during some significant rain and weather. I own a 2018 Lance 995 (bought new) and discovered a significant leak in the roof and front cap area. It was a warranty repair (thank goodness) but if I had kept it inside and under cover the entire time the damage might not have shown up during the warranty period. This is just some advice from a fellow Lance owner . Once you let it sit through a hurricane or two, I would definitely start using that wonderful indoor space you have to house it. Respectfully submitted.
