I pay for a NRVIA certified inspector to inspect any RV before we commit to buying. This includes new ones. I try to arrange an inspection of an ordered RV within a day or two after it arrives. The dealer loves that because they don't have to pay a tech to go through it. If a dealer objects to that, find another dealer.

I’m an NRVIA Certified Inspector in Colorado Springs and I’m surprised that people don’t even know about getting inspections on their RV. It’s so important and I love helping to people to make an educated an informed decision on their purchase….. these things are cheap. Good video!

When I did the walk around for our current Rig I pointed out that the tires were 10 years old, a week later when we picked it up it had sticker tires on all 4 wheels that's service. Next season before we even go anywhere it gets a set of Goodyears and a TPMS I'm not taking any chances even though the tires are only 2 years old. Great video Guys I think I will have our next Rig inspected by someone like Steward before we buy, peace of mind is truly priceless.

These days up in British Columbia, Canada and I wouldn't be surprised if it is true in other provinces or states, if you have an accident and the authorities find that you are overloaded to your GVWR, you will not be insured. Very important to pay attention to it.

I forgot to mention that when you talking about water getting into your Rv it is probably worse than a house. It happened to us just last week with water getting into our sticks and bricks from our water heater and a part from our toilet. We had to get out of our sticks and bricks right then and there because of mold and the dust that will fly around from when they do the walls. My sisters boy friend has COPD. And I have asthma issues and my sister has had pneumonia. But I thank you all for this video. It’s a great learning experience. Have a great week.

Wow, this video was loaded with lots of tips and tricks to keep your RV operational and to catch issues when they're small before they become major. The extra "what is this" segment demonstrated that the female members of the LJMJ team know a lot more than might be expected. Your oldest daughter really has a good grasp on a lot of things and given time will probably be contributing a lot to your channel. Happy New Year to all of you.

Having a guy like Stewart around could come in super handy. Totally agree that water is the number one enemy of an RV and everything should be done to prevent it from having a chance to wreck your rig. I place water alarms in areas like under the sinks, and behind the wet bay where things tend to leak. The alarm goes off when water comes into contact with it and it can alert you early on before something small can turn into something big. It's saved us a couple times. Thanks for sharing..

Just this week a 50 yr old duck with a bad back was up on my roof of my class c with a cleanser and several tubes of dicor. Had to move because it got cold. Not best to dicor in freezing temps with humidity or moisture around. Dicor self leveling lap sealent likes 50-80 degrees, takes 5 minutes to skin over, 4 hours of at least 50 degrees to become waterproof and 30 days to cure. I got a good head start on the preventive maintenance. Thanks for the great info!! Happy Holidays sweet fam!

We own a molded fiberglass trailer and this is the ONLY direction I would go. Granted you have to be able to live with the size limitations and no slides but all of these problems mentioned in this video you do not have. Maybe one thing, you still need to check caulk on any screw holes in roof. Enjoy the road and stay safe. Merry Christmas!

I have a 2002 RV and it had 11,000 miles on it when I bought it. It's like new. When emptying the tanks I turned around and the back corner joining strip on the corner had popped the rusty screws and bowed out an inch for about 4 feet. So much caulk, I cannot slip the strip cover off. Going to probably have to drill through both and insert heftier screws. The culprit was a rotted downspout. Made a new one out of a milk jug. Hardly noticeable I hope when done.

I feel pretty good after watching this video. I knew the quick fire tool answers, including the pex crimper at the end Because I had to replumb my water pump! So one lives in my toolbox now. Great info. I need to get on my roof now. If Stewart knows of a good way to get flex seal tape off the cab marker lights of my class c. i thought they were leaking and couldn't figure out where. They weren't the problem. But now I need take off the tape that I put there when we had 6 inches of rain predicted in 24 hours last week.

Very informative video. I noticed something very similar as your situation on my late model Montana 5th wheel under the front bedroom side. I wish mine was as easy to fix as yours to repair. It turns out that the reason the plate connection was loose from the frame to wall was due to the frame flexing. Pin box frame and wall was found with weld failures in the both frame and wall - major repair needed! I'm hoping Lippert will come through and honor the frame repairs under warranty. I highly suggest keeping a very close eye on the molding to wall gap difference when on an off the truck. Love your channel.

I’m probably going to have to ditch mine. I had to park it’s impossible to find any place to store it inside. At least where I’m living. You may have an indoor storage facility available but you can’t get the RV inside the unit. Those monstrous AC units prevent the thing from fitting inside. I called one place and the units are huge inside but the doors are only 6 1/2 feet high! The rig is already 9 ft high and add another who knows how much for the AC! I was able to put mine in a parking spot. That was as good as it got. And what’s the weather been like the last few days? Raining like crazy. I don’t expect to have much of a trailer left to sell. Idk how I’ll get rid of it but I need to do it soon before it sits outside much longer. If I’m ever able to travel again it’s going to be in a skoolie. At least a metal bus stands a chance and it will have a mini split inside instead of an 18,500 btu monstrosity that almost splits your eardrums when you turn it on! After having one manufactured rig I can safely say I will never throw my money away on something that takes 10 years to pay off but can be ruined in no time at all!

Did you check your welds? That's a common problem with those frames. They build them as light and cheap as possible. We love our goose neck toy hauler. It has heavy duty suspension with shocks. Leaf spring fatigue is a real thing. Weird tire wear is usually from leaf spring fatigue. Go look at open trailer of same weight capacity and length as r.v. and that's what the suspension should look like. After looking at campers and toy haulers the build quality is night and day. Don't buy a boxed frame if your doing a lot of traveling with it. The frame and suspension is first thing I look at. If r.v. company can't afford good leaf springs or shocks then I don't want it. Those cheap parts could cost your life. Heavy duty jack is first on my list of tools. Head lamps are great. I love the garage space on toy hauler. We take bikes, atv's, canoes, and lots of gear and toys. Our jeep can be hauled in back if need be too. Being able to haul materials to build on property is awesome too. Interior with the leather has that wow factor. 1/8 inch thick tubed steel frames are junk. Look them up and see how many people have had problems with them. Leaf spring fatigue is another accident maker. If you start blowing tires usually there is suspension problems. Or if you have to dive slower and slower to stop the sway. Look at 5th wheel frames compared to i joist goose neck frame. Which frames fail on r.v.'s more often.

I have a '92 class A, Monterey by Cobra, that I had new tires put on, when I went for the inspection, they said that the 'bell cranks' were not good and I needed them to be replaced. It runs amazingly well. I can get up to 75 and not even realize it, the engine works so well. My local garage told me to order the parts myself, they couldn't find them, they would install them. I located them online with a little help from someone. The trouble is, there are two sizes. I don't know what a 'bell crank' is, I was told that it has to do with the steering and wheels, but is there no one out there that can help me? I live in a rural area, not many places to choose from....I don't want to be stuck at home next year. Blessings!

Make sure your roof is made to be walked on. A lot of trailers only have 1/4 ply for roof and shouldn't be walked on. If you have to go on roof use 1/2" plywood and spread out weight of your body. Other wise try to do stuff from edge as much as possible.

Can a mobile repair guy fix warranty work?
@majoroldladyakamom6948
@majoroldladyakamom6948 2 жыл бұрын
Only if the work is done by an Authorized/pre-approved dealer/repair shop. Call the Dealer/Manufacturer for pre approval. Otherwise, you may void the Service Warranty.

@@thompsonrvservice Thanks for helping with the video, Stewart! Do you have more information on the frame repair up front and how you repaired it? I would appreciate any information you can share.

@@tumbleweed4185 The steel plate that you could see moving was straightened and screwed to the aluminum frame. There was missing hardware which is what caused the issue from the start.

Frankly only about 4 or 5 brands (in /USA) (of fifth wheels) are relatively well made, & properly Quality-Control inspected. The majority of Brands are very sub-standard. Lippert (LCI) make most of the North American chassis, BUT, they are NOT all built to the same "Price-Point" (ie NOT all built to the same Quality / Duty-Cycle). If you can't afford one of the following brands, can you REALLY afford to own a 5th wheeler. New Horizons, Luxe, Spacecraft, . . . . . . . ?? If it is designed to be towed by an F250 / Ram 2500, then it is FAR too lightly constructed !!!
