For those of us getting older....who've lost loved ones...seen your kids leave....lost your life partner....it puts your entire life into perspective. I cried when I heard this song for the first time and I cried just now watching this. It really reminds you to love every day as if it were your last.

@NearlySeniorCitizen Yetagamer I had the very same reaction to the video, to see him put his own words and soul into the video and by sharing visuals from his life, the good and the bad, past regrets and feeling alone were powerful, you can have everything but it doesn't matter if you don't have someone. My grandfather was a huge Johnny Cash fan and turned me onto his music when i was a kid, I played this song at his memorial service, everyone was in tears. Johnny was truly phenomenal

My dad was a huge Johnny Cash fan; I was six when he took all of us to see Johnny and June live. I introduced him to this song, and I still remember him replaying the video again and again and crying. We played this at his funeral. One of the songs where the cover far surpasses the original. I cry too when I hear it.

Your show of emotion proves just how important this song is. Yes, it's a cover, but event T.R. said that this is Johnny's song now. It's just to powerful. Johnny singing it, in itself, can move a person to tears. Especially because of his life and that he felt this song. Much love to you ... and long live Johnny Cash.

Omfg I started watching you about a year ago. Wasn’t consistent but always came back to you. I just found this video as well, watched it and I’m in tears. In absolute tears. I’m 16 but I’ve been through hell and I’m not even an adult. In and out of mental hospitals, abused, neglected for most of my life and hated myself for years because of it. I’m finally at a place where I’m getting help and it feels amazing. But I think I was meant to find your video, this song. This channel. Because you have no idea what you taught me today just by being yourself. Keep doing you my man, stay safe and live life. Much love. 💯✌️

IMO this was A LOT more emotional than the original... It's simply viewing it at the perspective of an old man who is reflecting on his life... Even the composer of this song admitted that when he listened to JC's version of his song he immediately realized that he lost and accepted that the song is not his anymore... He compared it to losing a girlfriend to someone else....
@williamroeben
@williamroeben 7 жыл бұрын
I agree- he figuratively knocked it out of the ballpark. There was so much loss in JC's life- as there is in ANYONE'S life- and it natural to mourn and grieve.

Oh don't cry. But it is such a good rendition of the song. Having loved Trent for so long I was so sceptic of someone touching his song. Specially this one. And I couldn't imagine Johnny Cash doing it. But he really did a great job on it. I think it hits us also when we get up there in age as we understand just how much the little things mean to us. We could have these big empires but they are nothing but piles of dirt compared to the ones we've lost along the way. I never really understood why there's all these reaction videos but I'm so glad I came across yours. I think it's great. I also find it interesting that you like postcards & keychains. Back in the day when I 1st started going to concerts I started collecting keychains. I literally had them hung around the corners in my bedroom then coming into the light in the center & down the corners. I still have them & they fit a large tub which I have given my daughter. I still collect keychains but rarely do they sell them at concerts anymore. I have another tub full of concert paraphernalia from over the years & t-shirts like crazy. I had a whole room full of magazines dating back clear to 89 but my last move I had to get rid of a lot of them. My daughter ended up having to go thru them for me cause I couldn't handle it. Anyway, I do love to talk & I get a kick how you talk while watching. I used to drive my kids crazy & now I see why. lol. I now have my little dog & she'll listen to me talk all day long. Anyway, I'll catch ya later. K

Thats debatable, the original is much more musically complex. Cash dumbs it down a bit by removing some of the dissonance which really makes the song what it is. The instrumentation is also much more sparse in the Cash version. The way Johnny sings it is great though, ill give him that, but musically the NIN version is much better.

I've been watching quite a few of these "Hurt" reactions and they are so very similar in their effect on the listener. This song forces the listener to think about things they usually are trying NOT to think about because it's driving the deep questions right into the heart of those hearing it. Meaning "Why are we here?" "Where am I going?" "How should I be living?" "What have I been living for and how?" "What is really Important in life?". Then when they are done it's so often silence and difficulty describing what they are thinking or feeling. "Hurt" is an "Anointed" song and Johnny's video especially.

As a 25 year old I feel too much personal regret and sadness this song delivers to myself. Im too young to feel that amount of regret of oldness, but it feels like being "an old soul" in midst of younglings..

If you are not moved by this video, you're not wired up right. I cried when I first watched it, and when I showed my other half who's an ex Hells Angel there were tears in his eyes.

This song embodied all of his regrets. Became the outlet for him to unburden himself before he leave. I'm sure Mr. Cash have no regrets now. In heaven, with his wife.

My dad raised me on old classic country. Johnny Cash is one of my favourites. Even Trent says that Johnny's version of Hurt is better the NIN original.

That’s not how react vids work, we experience something that meant something to us (whether good or bad)...then we click on a react vid to compare how others experienced it. I’ve seen this vid at least 20 times, and still cry every time...so I appreciate your react 👍🏽
